The following guidelines are ideal perceptions of g00d roleplaying, by the staff and those who judge matches. Remember, these are not written in stone! We adore all of your styles and unique abilities to demonstrate differentiating forms of writing. What will be outlined is simply what we deem necessary, or what's smiled upon, here in ACW. -The Story- The story of your roleplay is one of the most important aspects. I must stress that this is not a promo efed. Having your character stand in the middle of the ring and spout off about their opponent won't get you very far here. Have different settings, but don't be repetitive. Having the same place or idea in your roleplay, even with a story, can get (to be blunt) rather boring. Mix it up! Want some brownie points? Look up things to do, or different places, in the city or state Initiative happens to be in that week and use that as a setting for your rp! And lastly, don't have it just be all dialogue (your character speaking), monologue (your character's thoughts) or action (self explanatory). Try to incorporate all three, in any style you want of course, and make the story enjoyable for not only the reader, but yourself as well. :] -Relevance- Uh, your character's a wrestler. Duh. Let's not forget, that's what they do for a living. As I mentioned above, throwing a promo into your roleplay won't get you many points. Even with a story, then a promo at the end... it'd get you much farther in ACW if you incorporated your relevance into the story. I don't care if you're riding a giant robotic dinosaur through the city! Shout to the crowd about how you'll kick your opponent's ass! Or talk to the metallic dinosaur, if that's how your character rolls... hell, even use the dinosaur as an example as to what you may do to your opponent, or how it relates to you ("I'm as fierce as a dinosaur, and as vicious! My opponent better be prepared for this shiz."). This example doing anything for ya? No? Anyway, just remember... story is huge, yes, but your character's still in ACW as a wrestler, so try to incorporate that into your story in some fashion. -Creativity- This goes hand in hand with... well both of the above criteria. Your story has to have some level of creativity, seeing as interest factor (which I'm including in creativity) is huge here. Don't go on a boring, overdone 'I'm the shit, nobody's gonna beat me, le roar!' rant... again, don't be repetitive with what's said or done, or with the setting either. If your character, in your rps, have different, new and exciting experiences... so will your reader. I'm not saying have all of your rps be eccentric and out there, or have your character always do amusing things or be cheery. In fact, that falls into the creativity area: emotion. It's hard to pull off good emotion... true sadness, true pain, true happiness or true anger. It's not easy to make someone feel what you're character's feeling. But if you can... then you're truly gold, and I feel you'd be one of the best not just here... but anywhere. So to summarize, make sure to keep your rps interesting (if you yourself feel it's a lil bland... then it probably is. So add some spice to it in some fashion), make sure you mix up settings and ideas to keep things fresh, don't just have your character go on an obvious rant for no real reason, do not start your rps generically (describe the setting, or hook the reader immediately or they'll lose interest off the bat), and tap into your character's emotion to really get their feelings across. If you can pull all that off, you're sure to kick some @$$. -Content- What are the rules as to what you can have in your rps? There really aren't many! Firstly, keep it realistic. Turning into a goblin and fighting a flesh-eating fairy is better suited for a fantasy fed, kay? Even more humanistic things such as stealing a shitload of stuff from multiple places, beating people to bloody pulps or even murder... all that illegal shiz? Yeah, your character sure as hell better go to jail or get in trouble for that. Unless you can explain out of this world kind of stuff in a liable way (which is possible, trust me I know ;P), then don't do it. Everyone in ACW is human... let's keep it that way. o_O Next? You don't have to put any kind of disclaimer in your roleplays at all. We're rated R here people! And I firmly believe in freedom to write. If your character's racist, sexist or just a total asshole... then so be it. As long as you keep it all IC, then there's no worries. People should know by now that we're not exactly PG Now, if your roleplay is nothing but all those derogatory things... then we may have an issue. Don't go all out with stuff like "this bitch is just a woman, she should be in the kitchen not in the ring" or "shouldn't this black guy be in jail by now?" throughout your entire rp. Sure, saying it once or twice (if it's your character), is no big deal. But if the rp's full of callous remarks like that, there may be an issue. Either way, play your character how you want (to a length degree) and don't worry about offending people with a small bit of violence or wording. Also, absolutely positively no OOC (out of character) comments in your rps. Drama caused by people attacking the handler personally instead of the character is not allowed. If this does happen, you will either get a warning to edit your rp (if it's a day or more before the deadline when it's noticed), or we'll simply delete your rp (umadbro? Ee're serious, ppl!). Now remember, if you put RL into your character (example: your character lost their sibling in a car accident... same thing happened to you personally a year or so ago...), then it can be used. Putting real life into roleplays can really bring out strong emotion, but remember: anything included in your roleplays are FAIR GAME. -Other- The rest of the pet peeves of most 'judges' in the fed go along with the grammar/spelling portion of rping. I mean, we're all highschool or above... I think we can write properly; decent grammar, spelling and punctuation... as well as spacing in your rps. If anything, just give the rp a quick once-over to make sure there aren't a ton of errors. One or two are no big deal, but if it gets to where it's obviously noticeable? That's when you need to start re-reading your shiz. Nobody's perfect, so we won't grade your rp down if there's a couple noticeable errors... just don't write like a 6yo, kay? Also, though it kind of goes with content, I thought it fit better here... description and detail! Nothing but dialogue is boring as all hell. Describe your setting... describe the city in the background, with the windows of the building shining in the vivid sunlight. Explain the details! What's your character wearing that day? Where is your character? What's the weather like? Who's your character with? How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? Don't just say what's going on... let us see it, in your writing! It doesn't have to be fabulous and full of glamorous wording, and you don't have to go overboard with tons of detail (we don't really care about how many cracks there are in the sidewalk), but give it enough to explain where your character is, and what's going on. And that's all I can think of for now! If more ideas come about, I'll add to this thread. But that's the gist of things. Again, these are just flexible guidelines and you don't have to follow them down to the 'T'. If you have any questions (and there are no 'silly' or 'stupid' ones :3), please don't hesitate to shoot me a PM or catch me in the chat. Thanks for reading! |
