So, I know for a fact that a few people here like anime. Vanessa is one of them, being a One Piece fan. So, I thought I'd put up this thread to discuss the popular Japanese cartoons. I guess to begin I'll put up two lists. First is the list of the best anime I've ever seen. Second is the worst. The worst animes are not necessarily bad, they're just the worst out of the ones I've seen. This is my opinion, and I would like to see how yours differs. So, discuss. Top Anime ********** One Piece - Simply the best. Great action, comedy and character development. The different lands are amazing and diverse, and there's so much diversity with the characters as well. Oh, and Jinbe FTW! Fullmetal Alchemist - Hilarious and action packed. A great story with characters you just can't help but love. Even some of the villains are lovable (Gluttony for example) and then there's Ling. He is one of the most epic anime characters ever. Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni - The single scariest (yes, it's damn scary) anime I've ever seen. A different concept and interesting characters. Plus, some of the freakiest anime deaths ever. DO NOT WATCH AT NIGHT, ALONE, AND WITH THE LIGHTS OFF! Literally gave me nightmares for a month. Dragon Ball/Z/GT - What can I say? It's the quintessential father of modern anime. This is what started it all, and it did so with a bang! (or a don if you're a One Piece fan) Great action, humor and storylines. The characters are all cool and there's so much depth to it. Case Closed - The king of mystery cartoons. Great references to Sherlock Holmes and really in-depth stories and mysteries. The characters are awesome and there's even a movie of it with Sherlock Holmes in it, and Jack the Ripper! EPIC! Naruto - Great at first. Awesome story, cool characters, epic villains. There's a lot of awesome stories and some damn cool powers and attacks. However, it's big problem is all the damn fillers. Soul Eater - Freaking awesome! Monsters and reapers and witches galore! Even a zombie and Frankenstein. WAY too short in my opinion though, and the best part (Maka with madness) should've been a recurring element throughout the series. Sailor Moon - I actually LOVE this anime. Most people say it's a girls anime, but they can suck a fish. I watched this with my sister when we were younger and we both loved it. The characters, the villains, the storyline. Everything about it was done well. If the Dragon Ball series' is the quintessential father of moden anime, Sailor Moon is the mother. Rurouni Kenshin - Hilarious beyond reason and has amazing action sequences. A great set of main characters that make the show something to see. Plus, it has Makoto Shishio, one of the all-time greatest villains ever. Death Note - A very solid horror-based anime. The best part is that the main character is the villain who becomes corrupted through power. It has cool characters and an exceptional story. It's length is what draws it back. Plus, it has the single greatest line in anime history: "I'll solve equations with my right hand and write names with my left. I'll take a potato chip... and eat it!" (the way it's presented is frickin awesome). Watch 1:09 to 1:21 for the line http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrpdFmb0EMc Hellsing - Knock knock. Who's there? Oh you know, a real fucking vampire! No more sparkling and love, Alucard is a true vampire through and through, killing without mercy. The series is funny and has more action then you could believe. It's only this low because of a little too much obscene language. There is a point when it becomes just too much. Yu-Yu-Hakusho - Awesome story, great characters, badass villains. What more could you want? It even ran for quite a bit. However, it just can't stack up to those before it. Paranoia Agent - One of the biggest WTF moments of my life. This anime is confusing but fun. The opening is one of my favorites in anime and it's a great mystery anime. Way too short though. Bleach - I began watching Bleach when it was on Adult Swim for it's first run. I really enjoyed it. The concept, characters, fighting, and humor. However, after the big reveal of Sosuke Aizen as the villain, it dropped for me. It became less funny, the action was less impressive, and the story kind of became stale. There were a few highlights after (The Vizards, Grimjow Jacerjaques, and Ichigo's dad) but that's really it. Shaman King - If this were longer, it'd be higher on the list. Amazing story with interesting characters and a cool concept. Tokegero demands this be longer! Continue the damn anime! Trigun - Action beyond words and comedy that's genuinely funny. It has the most emotional death scene I've ever seen, but after a certain point, the comedy drops out and it hurts the entire show. FLCL - Just like Paranoia Agent, this was one of the biggest WTF moments I've ever had. However, this one is much worse. The anime is completely fucked up and just makes no sense. It's fun and hilarious to watch, but I guarantee that you won't have any clue of what's going on. Worst Anime ************ Pokemon (not good after Johto episodes) - It was good at first. After the Johto region episodes ended, the show became horrible though, and has turned into more of a friendship/relationship anime than of the actual Pokemon. Toppen Toggen Gurren Lagann - Amazing concept, but after the death of one of the key characters, the story and everything else really just stops being good. I hate when I'm watching an anime and eventually I just stop caring. Inuyasha - I couldn't keep up with it. There is one episode that I truly thought was amazing. It had spider demons and revolved around Sango and her brother, who was being controlled by the leading demon. Other than that episode, nothing really stuck out to me. Digimon - Season one was epic, but after that it just got ridiculous. The story, characters, and everything completely dropped off after the first season and it just wasn't good anymore. The Prince of Tennis - Only saw a few episodes, but it was decent. Didn't have much to it though, and it is centered around tennis. Maybe it'd be higher up if I watched more of it. Hikaru No Go - Loved the manga, wasn't thrilled about the anime. I think it's the kind of manga that should not be animated. Just wasn't that great to see. Rosario + Vampire - I like some of the characters, and the concept. However, it is WAY too overly sexualized to the point where it's just disgusting. Ranma 1/2 - It loses it's flair after a while. The concept is different and interesting, and the humor is there, but it just isn't that amazing. Elfen Lied - The concept is genius, the execution is crap. It has bad acting...it's a damn anime! How do you have bad acting in anime!? The voices sound under-rehearsed like they just got people off the street to do them, and for the most part the words don't match the mouths. It is bloody and violent though. That's always fun. Ouran High School Host Club - The anime that takes brotherly love too far. Honestly, there's only one character I can stand and the story is crap. Trinity Blood - Only saw a few episodes but that was enough. Too serious. Could never get into things that were way too serious. Fruits Basket - It was weird and confusing. Wasn't impactful at all and was more of a clean anime. Not much to it. A good palate cleanser after watching Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni though. It'll bring the bloodlust right out of you. Gakuen Alice - I literally don't remember anything about this anime, other than it was about little kids and had the most morbid little girl ever. Didn't make any kind of impact on me. Samurai Champloo - Saw quite a few episodes, but never got into it. It's something I would put on for background sounds and visuals while writing or doing something else. Cowboy Bebop - What was this about? Was there even cowboys in it? What is a bebop? Again, what was this anime about? I just can't remember. Gundam Wing - The most boring anime ever. It's all action all the time and just gets so old so fast. Ghost in the Shell - I saw one episode that I sort of liked. Everything else seemed overdone, boring, and too serious. |

BEST Dragon Ball/z- I liked it, started to hate the end of Z, but it's the grandaddy of em all. just wish all the characters that had already been established in Dragonball weren't just death tokens. S-CRY-ED, as a child this show actually kind of touched me, and to this day I can still watch the action and get the missage Cowboy Bepop- Greatestest. Fucking. Show. Ever. One Piece- Fuckin Awesome plot, like naruto with established characters that develop over time, at least in the manga. Yu-Yu- Hakusho- It was like Bleach but lless swords, and a hell of a lot less complicated Case Closed was pretty good, but I'm into action and it was like a whole different genre for me. G-SD- Gundam, those were the only two i coulde get into, the little gundams in SD kinda made fun of all the other seasons while keeping the exact.same.premise. and G-Gundam was pretty badass, so i hail those above the early seasons Digimon 1-3&6 i loved the premise, 1-2 were pretty linear, 3 fucked up the storyline and kinda crafted it's own, but six made up for it by throwing everything away and restarting fresh, also you gotta love the goggles. season 4 wasn't bad, it's just not the Digimon I wanted. Samurai F'n Jack- WACHAA! Naruto- I liked more of the second half, but the early non-plot related episodes were pretty good. Bobobo-bo-bobobo- yes. shit was real.so real. a man in a yellow afro fighting crime with his nosehairs, a man made out of jelly, and a sun. Android 009/D.I.C.E.- neither lasted long but I liked them both, one is an action anime with superhumanoids escaping to freedom, the other was gundams with animals not unlike ZOIDS but didn't come with an awesome toyline that took four days to assemble. Baki The Grapplaaaaaaaaah!- if you can catch it, it's a pretty good MMA based anime Worst- Dragonball GT, just horrible...yeah Super 17 was cool, but 20 seconds doesn't count for two seasons of suck. Pokemon- I kinda liked the orginal, the Capcom sequels kinda grew me tired, also the lack of plot, and the undertone of animal cruelty and slavery crept up on me. Bleach, i liked it better when it was Yu-Yu-Hakusho, and I liked that better when it was Dragonball Z PrinceofTennis/Whistle/Eyeshield 21/Hikarunogo- Sports animes that sucked the life out of the manga. I liked Prince of Tennis, though but I want fucking action, bitches. Eyeshield was great in the football moments, and it is kinda actiony, but it's better as a manga, the same with Hikaru No Go, it's fucking Chinese Chess, how boring is that to animate? Golden Mentions- Rouroni Kenshin, quite possibly the best anime ever done besides that Cowboy Bebob/Samurai Jack crossover that's destined to happened. Inuyasha- If you can follow it it is one of the longest, linked(mostly by bullshit sometimes) storylines you will become hypnotised to get into. And yes, I also have a sennin anime I enjoy. Mahou Sensie Negima, not a bit as gay as it looks |

Good choices. Never watched S-CRY-Ed, but I have been told before that it's good. Bobobo made me shake my head, just no. And Samurai Jack isn't anime. It was an American-made cartoon done in a similar style to anime. It's not actually anime though. |

I LUV anime because unlike IRL shows, they portray emotions and stories in ways sitcoms and soap operas and shit like that couldn't possibly portray. That said, I'm not gonna give a list of best and worst, but rather I'll just comment on the animes/mangas I've watched/read (trust me, this list isn't NEARLY all of them... these are just the ones I remember off the top of my head). One Piece - I think we can all agree (including SLATER xD) that One Piece is the SHIT! It's the highest selling anime ever: almost double the sell-rate of DragonBall, 7x the sell-rate of Naruto and Bleach. AMAZING SLs, AMAZING characters, Back-stories to EVERYTHING and EVERYONE(some which are heart wrenching to the point that you WILL end up close to or in tears), and an intriguing plot altogether. Though I will say, some of the filler episodes and arcs are kind of stupid (tho a lot of animes have those), and the voices/personalities are irritating at points. There are minor cons in the anime, but they definitely do NOT take away from the greatness that is One Piece. Oh, and... NAAAMMMMIIIIIIII-SANNNNNNNN!!!!! x3 Naruto - Ugh, don't get me started. I used to like Naruto... more toward the middle of the show. But slowly and surely the creator started going all googly-eyed over Sasuke, and the SL of the whole show went downhill. I mean the story of the Uchihas was interesting... for like, a few episodes. Then it just got stupid and repetitive, and tbh I think it's lost it's luster. After the timeskip it went back to pretty cool, but then fell flat again. :/ I will forever luv the sand pplz tho, Gaara and Temari-chaaaaan especially. Fullmetal Alchemist - I actually really like FMA. The concept's interesting, the characters are great and the plot has cool ideas in it. But sadly, I didn't watch a lot of it. Trust me, one day I'd like to just sit down and watch the entire series because I DO like it. It just didn't completely latch onto me like OP. That said... NO THE THE HYBRID GIRL/DOG THING. GAHHH!!!! That was so... so... AGH! That is all... Dragon Ball/Z/GT - DB/Z's huge. Like... the fanbase, the story, etc. I LIKE Dragonball, but I wouldn't call myself a fan so much as if someone wanted to watch a couple eps of DBZ, I wouldn't mind. The chicks in the anime are the shiznit. Just sayin. xD AND, random fact: One Piece's creator is best friends with Dragonball's. ![]() Yu-Gi-Oh - Uhm... it was okay as an anime? I guess? Card game's interesting But yeah... meh. NEXT!Case Closed - The concept's pretty awesome, but I'm not a fan of the animation style. I do like that they used RL references to murderers and ideas and such. Pretty interesting, not my fav but not the worst. Sailor Moon - Most guys watched it for the short skirts. DON'T LIE!!! I like the lez charries: Haruka-san and Michiru-chan. FUCK AMERICA for making them COUSINS. "Having lesbian characters in a cartoon is bad for our children". GO GET SCREWED USA; JAPAN LET IT BE!!! It's better in Japanese anyway, and I HATED Sailor Moon's voice after the like, 3rd season... the voice actress changed and it just screwed it up completely. I actually had to stop watching because of how horrid it was. :/ But the first three seasons were good. It's a required taste kind of anime/manga: you either love it, or hate it, or appreciate it but it's not your style. Death Note - Hate Misa, love L, wanted 'Kira' to DIEDIEDIE, and thought the demons or shinigami or whatever were kewl. Not my favorite, HATED the live action bullshit, but t'was a good one either way. Hellsing - I've seen very very few eps of this, but from what I saw... it was a kick-ass manga with lots of blood and vampires and wicked characters. I'll give it a thumbs up based on level of gore, story and charries. I wouldn't personally watch it in my free time, though. Yu-Yu-Hakusho - Eh, it was cool at first but I lost my interest in it soon enough. It was hard to get into, for me. Bleach - BLEEEEEAAACH!!! My second anime right here. I have a woman-crush on Rukia. A chick without annoyingly big boobs, who's badass with a awesome personality?! Hell yes! And Ichigo is the SHIT. I hate Orihime... just like Hinata in Naruto. God... useless women who are all shy and innocent and... ugh. I can't STAND women like that. Yuck. But yeah, I luv the concept of the anime... FO RIZZLE. The backstories are cool, and the movies OMFG... the movies are THE BEST PART of the anime!!! Although I will agree that filler after filler arc was tedious and it kinda got boring after a while, I'm still in love. So FNEH. >P Pokemon - I grew up on Pokemon haha. The games and the show. The First couple seasons of Pokemon and the first like... 3 movies... I was all 'EEEEEE' about as a kid. Even now I luv pokemon, have a few games... want a pikachu, etc. But they had way too many seasons and the chick changed like EVERY season. I LIKED MISTY DAMMIT. So yeah, not a fan after the first couple... hell, I'm not a fan of pokemon after the 3rd gen. But w/e. Digimon - Ahh, this was like a second pokemon to me. I liked Digimon. It was cute. xD I liked a few seasons and the digimonsters were kawaaaiiii. So... eh, twas a good one. Not fabulicious, but g00d. Inuyasha - Watched it all. Read it all. Liked it. Am not not a fangirl, but it was decent. Liked the personalities of some of the characters, hated Inuyasha's emo brother, and it was... well it did have an intriguing concept. But I wouldn't watch the anime for fun. Rosario + Vampire - O... M... G. Inner Moka. Dear lord. She's one of my favorite anime characters EVER. Yes, the show/manga is a bit... uhm... perverse. The anime was 'pretty' (so many stunning colors :3) and funny too. But it didn't follow the manga. The manga's better. Still perverted, but totally keeps a stronger story to it. I like it. Not love, but defo like.Ranma 1/2 - Eh... I didn't like the style of art honestly. :l The concept (a guy turning into a girl with cold water lulllz) was okay and the father being a panda got me all XD. But yeah I agree, it loses it's pizazz after a while. So-so. Ouran High School Host Club - SCREW YOU! I <3 THIS ANIME/MANGA! XD Though it was wayyyy too short. Although I think the manga's still on-going, and just like with Rosario Vampire, the manga's way better. The twins are adorable dammit. And I <3 all of the the MCs except the blonde guy. Sadly, it's very "shoujo" (it's more for girls who like fruity bubble-gum manga/anime), so there wasn't much action. But it's funny and the characters make me squeee dammit! Fruits Basket - SCREW YOU AGAIN! This is also a 'shoujo' kinda manga, but it had such a great story to it. The backstories and histories were so... eerie, at points. And the characters were lovable. Even the screaming, angry, bad attitude guy Kyo. An anime/manga based off of the Chinese Zodiac? With a legit story to it? Sorry, I thought it was intriguing. Though I hated Yuki. No seriously, damned prissy boy shoulda died at the end. At least he didn't get the girl! HaHA Yuki! ...anyway, so yeah. I liked F.B... though again, the manga was better. :/ Gakuen Alice - Third time... SCREW YOU! You obviously didn't read much of the manga. I haven't seen much of the anime, a few eps here and there, but omg the manga... it was annoying at first... and I wasn't fond of the whole 'main characters are little kids' kinda thing. But it slowly gets more and more interesting. The "morbid little girl" was Hotaru. She was a fucking genius inventor and she added the humor by keeping a serious, straight face while doing amusing things. And if ppl would actually, you know... look further into stories like this... they'd see the meanings behind stories and personalities, and the kind of emotions involved. I really liked the manga, and I'd probably like the anime. Weirdly enough, it had more action than you'd think and the story progressed well... though it dragged on at points. Either way, I'm a fan. Bobobo-bo-bobobo - NO. NO NO NO! GOD NO! OH GAWD! IT BURNS!!! *dies* Mahou Sensei Negima - *revives self* I agree Kenny. I only read the manga, but the anime looked cute. I actually liked itttt. Not a love, but not a hate either. Witchblade - T'was based on the American comic book series. Watched it, loved it, saw the end, hated it. I couldn't watch it again all because of the end. It ripped my heart out. But it was... a good anime, up until that conclusion... Black Butler - Grell. GRELL. LOOKATHIM! ![]() Crazy red-haired, flamboyant/gay, adorably evil, giant chainsaw-wielding demon?! HELL YES. The anime/manga actually has an intriguing SL too. If you're not into a few gender benders and totalll gay-guy moments (oh Grell <3)... then yeah, not for you. But the B.B's full of blood, gore, humor, violence, and a crazy plotline. I liek it a lot :3 Canaan - Interesting anime, pretty action packed... chick with a gun and a cutesy, cuddly photographer chick. The FUCKED UP Liang Qi, who was obsessed with the main antagonist to a disgusting point. >.> Anime ended WAY WAY too early... it woulda been like 500x better if had more eps. But a good anime. Burst Angel - SAME! This anime is weirdly close to Canaan. Main character has silver hair and piercing eyes, and her companion is this long-haired adorable and slightly ditzy girl. Hell both use guns as main weapons, too! But Canaan is more supernatural while B.A is action packed and kick-ass. They made a prequel manga version of the show, which is odd cuz usually it's manga --> anime, not the other way around. Either way, good show but too short ![]() Charming Junkie - It's a shoujo manga about a guy modeling as a girl and a girl model who sucks at facial expressions finding out... then it continues with romance and drama from there. It's good... if you like shoujos. xD Kimi Ni Todoke - Soooooooooooo cute. Another shoujo though. Not much action, but RL situations that... well... are kinda touching. But yeah, defo not an action, RAWR IMA KEEL YOU kinda anime (like Black Butler or Hellsing xD). But I liked it haha.. Tetragrammaton Labyrinth - Nuns and bloodshed. Weird manga. Not the greatest. But it was interesting haha Venus Versus Virus - It had a cool idea to it, and the concept was interesting. I liked the characters but not the small romance bit. It woulda been better if it'd kept the whole girl falling for the guy, who ended up being controlled by the main baddy... well, out of it. :/ But still, it was a curious lil manga. Claymore - Action-packed, creepy as hell anime/manga. Holy shit. o_o I got rly into the manga before, could probably get into the anime. But I'd have to be in the right mood. Scary demon monster things... *shudders* Strawberry Panic - ...it's a lesbian luv anime. XD Lots of gazing. Too much. Anime's better than the manga, but I guess it's one of the most popular lez animes *shrugs* Variante - Should've been made into an anime. So freaking creepy. Girl's arm is all mutated and used as a weapon against monsters made of the same thing her arm is. Messed up shit. GOOD manga, if not tragic somewhat. I lieked. D.N. Angel - Dude with wings has a different personality inside him who's a 'phantom thief', and is forced 'out' by thinking of his 'crush'? Lulz. It was definitely interesting. Not a favorite, but decent and amusing. NANA - This WAS one of my favorite 'shoujo-eque' anime/mangas til it reached a certain point with a certain character pulling a stupid fucking move and getting with the WORST character in the series... just went downhill from there. But the first few volumes are great, cute, dramatic and follow RL... and centers around music, and I <3 music. :3 Defo a shoujo though. Cardcaptor Sakura - Lolz, whut? Girliest type of anime ever. But it actually had an interesting concept! xD Not my type usually but I liked a few eps. Chibi Vampire - The end was so... so... UGH. Just like Witchblade. SCREW THE ENDS OF GOOD MANGAS/ANIMES RUINING THEM. Twas good though, besides that. .hack//sign - I... kinda got into this one? But then lost interest. I mean, it was good but not good enough to hold my intrigue. :/ Vampire Knight - One I can honestly say I do not like at all, that I've read and seen. I mean it has a good story but I think the execution is stupid personally, and meh... it just isn't very good haha. and finally.... HAMTARO - 'HAMTARO! When we work together, it's much better! MY BEST FRIEND! We like sunflower seeds, khrrmmp-khrrmmp-khrrmmp, MY HAM-HAMS! If she heads for trouble, we won't let her. HAMTARO! Little hamsters, big adventures!' It's a fn anime about hamsters! HAMSTERS! Nuff said. How's THAT for an anime/manga list BITCHEZ! xD |

*thumbs up* I've got a whoolllle lot more. Like the one manga I'm reading now (not sure if it's an anime?), Akame Ga Kiru (or Akame Ga Kill). One of the craziest mangas you could ever read. OMG. Rebellion assassins, guys getting eaten by weird monsters, corrupt gov't torturing people and brutally cutting out a pregnant woman's stomach, innocent girls getting their legs broken and eyes cut out, and... LEONE!!!! Slater says it's fucked up And that Leone reminds him of V >.>

Well she does! Partially in personality, though she has a resemblance in appearance. I'm not going to get into full-blown details of what I've seen. I'll just summarize them. Trigun A pretty good anime that I watched from start to finish in a matter of days. Vash The Stampede is "The Man with the Billion Dollar Bounty on his head". Or something to that numerical equivalent. He's been accused of destroying towns and properties and is basically hunted down from all corners. He doesn't state his innocence, but he does show signs that other characters learn as the show progresses. The story has a few flaws here and there, but overall, I'd check it out. Black Lagoon Okay, if you enjoy violence and bad ass characters in an anime, this is the one for you. A team of "delivery people" hunt down various treasures against other smugglers and "delivery people". I don't need to explain anything more. Revy, Rock, Balalaika, Eda, Hansel and Gretel and Roberta. If you watch this show, you'll know who these people are instantly by the end of it. Oh, and there are also neo-nazi's. I'm not kidding. There are plans to make a third series concentrating on Roberta, but I think it's still in development. Erm, and I think that's it. Watched a little of Ghost In The Shell. It was okay. Fullmetal Alchemist I watched a little of too. Started watching One Piece with V. As she says, it is pretty enjoyable and the development of characters and stories are superb. |
