The Leaping Frog

Never did I think that I would see the day...the day that I would be standing beside Al Envy, the man infamously known worldwide as The Show Stealer, fighting with him and not against him. Yet this was the case at the end of Initiative as Al, Matthew, and I repelled the assault of Judas Dathan, my twin sister Cera, and a mysterious masked man.

Historically, in fact from the first time we had met up until that very night, Al Envy and I had always stood opposed to one another. My side was with The Court, as it is, was, and always shall be. His side was with The cRu and the likes of among others Xavier Xannon Xanders, Ryan Pugh, and Johnny Stylez in their nefarious deeds. They too sought to take over a wrestling federation once upon a time, much like SIN is attempting to do in ACW now. However, I distinctly recall those particular efforts coming to a screeching halt with a victory by The Court over The cRu after I slammed the head of the goliath Ryan Pugh into the mat with a Shooting Star DDT from the top rope.

That was nearly a year ago now. The cRu is no more having long ago disbanded while The Court remains alive and continues to thrive here in ACW. Matthew Slater has rejoined The Court as its Silver Knight and is a constant threat in the ring, The Executioner Frank Finelli creeps ever so closely back into title contention with every match he takes part in, and for over one hundred and twenty days now I have stood tall as the ACW International Champion.

What has Al Envy done in that time span?

Paxar, my loving boyfriend Timothy Grace, and I arrive outside of what appears to be one of several bars located in the location for Initiative this week Lafayette, Louisiana. The area surrounding it looks lovely enough however the building in which the bar is housed appears to be quite old and dilapidated, at least on the outside, with the exception of being decorated with various strings of Christmas lights.

"Reya, why are we here? This place looks like a dump..."

Timothy nods as he glances over to me worriedly.

"I am forced to agree with Paxar here, sweetheart. This does not appear to be a safe place in the slightest."

"The both of you have nothing to fear. The Lord shall keep us safe from harm. Come, let us go inside."

Together we walk towards the entrance to the bar, Paxar and Timothy doing so cautiously. I move to open the door and as I do a wave of smoke billows out from it. We all immediately begin coughing and using our hands to clear the air as we make our way inside. The bar looks typical enough in appearance and is filled with an assortment of people, but clearly the three of us stand out among them. Closing the door behind us, our lungs begin to become adjusted to the smoke as all eyes appear to be on us.

"You three look a little lost..."

The words coming from the mouth of the portly middle aged bartender take us by surprise, but I quickly turn my attention to him to respond.

"I do not believe that we are lost. This is The Leaping Frog bar, is it not?"

The man nods back at us as he grabs a bottle and a shot glass, then pours from the bottle into the glass before handing the glass to one of the patrons sitting at the bar.

"If The Leapin' Frog's what you're lookin' for then look no further, gorgeous. You've found it."

A bright smile forms upon my face as I move closer to the bar while several patrons keep glaring at us.

"Excellent."

Surprisingly Paxar grabs me by the arm, pulling me around to whisper to me softly as Timothy occasionally glances back at us when he is not occupied examining the interior of the bar.

"Reya...what are you up to? What's the point of coming here? None of us even drink...not even pretty boy over here."

Giving my friend a slight nod, I reply in a whispered yet serious tone.

"That is precisely one of the points of venturing to this place, Paxar. I am wanting to do something that most would view as unexpected. Not many can envision me being within a hundred feet of an establishment such as this, let alone inside of it."

Paxar shakes her head as she lets out a sigh of dismay.

"There's a lot of things you can do that people wouldn't expect, Reya. That doesn't mean that you should do them."

"I suppose...which brings me to the other point of why we are here. This place is just the kind of establishment that my opponent for Initiative, Al Envy, prefers to frequent. If I want to obtain victory over him, I need to take a few steps in his shoes and see how the other half lives."

"I see no need to do that, Reya. The other half's nothing more than a marijuana smoking womanizing alcoholic with anger issues. Everyone and their mother knows you've got loads more talent in just your left foot than Envy's ever had in his entire body. All you've got to do is avoid turning your back to him. He's the Brutus of backstabbing, after all."

My face turns more serious as I glare deeply into her dark brown eyes.

"That is a fact of which I need no reminder."

Suddenly Timothy stops looking around, turns his full attention onto Paxar and I, then begins to whisper to us.

"Perhaps we should make ourselves comfortable, ladies. These people continue to stare at us. You two whispering to each other as we stand around is not helping matters in the slightest."

Smiling at him, I reply as we all return to our normal vocal tones.

"Indeed. Making ourselves comfortable is a good idea though, Timothy. Now what should we do to become more comfortable?"

"Well this is a bar, Reya. Most people here drink to get more comfortable."

"Then we shall drink."

"Oh dear..."

Timothy glares at me with concern as Paxar appears surprised.

"You can't possibly be serious..."

"Paxar, when have you known me not to be serious?"

"You're always serious. Right now that's what I'm afraid of..."

As I lead the way, the three of us step up to the bar. The bartender glances at me curiously.

"What're you havin', sweet cheeks?"

Not entirely thinking this through, I am unsure as to how to answer him. Desperately, I turn to Paxar for guidance.

"What would Al Envy drink? Tequila, perhaps?"

"No, tequila's more Cera's style. Al Envy's a whiskey man. I swear that man loves his whiskey more than he loves his own kid. It's kind of sad, really."

"I see..."

Turning my attention back to the bartender, I reply confidently.

"I will take one whiskey, please."

Paxar facepalms and shakes her head in embarrassment before she speaks up.

"Just get her a shot of Jack Daniels."

Nodding, he turns his attention next onto Paxar.

"And what about you, cutie pie? What're you havin'?"

"Just some water if you've got any that didn't come from one of the swamps around here."

Next, as he begins fixing our drinks the bartender looks at Timothy.

"What about you?"

Timothy appears hesitant to respond until I take his hands in mine, peering into his eyes.

"Please...have a drink with me."

He flashes a weak smile before replying to the question from the bartender.

"I will have what she is having."

The bartender makes all of our drinks as Paxar pays the man for the price of them. The bartender then hands our individual drinks to each of us and we take them in our hands.

"I believe it is customary to toast prior to drinking..."

"Indeed."

"Toasting with water is bad luck, so I'm out."

As she backs away sipping her water by herself Timothy and I raise our shot glasses to one another.

"So what shall we toast to, Timothy?"

He ponders for a moment before a smile comes across his face.

"To life, love, and the Lord."

"Here here."

The two of us clank glasses before putting them to our lips. As we begin to drink almost immediately our faces turn sour from the taste of the alcohol but we manage to finish off the shots and set the empty glasses back on the bar.

"I do not see how people can drink that on a regular basis."

"Neither can I."

Just then, a drunken man stumbles up to us slurring his words.

"Hey...ya ladies wanna dance with me?"

Glaring at the man, who uncannily resembles Al Envy in appearance yet is not Al Envy himself, I respectfully decline.

"No, thank you."

Miffed at the rebuff of his advance, he lunges forward and firmly grasps my behind to my complete surprise.

"Come on, ya little tease. You know you want some of this."

My face turning red in anger, I push him away with all of my might sending him back several feet. Paxar and Timothy move to come to my defense, but I wave them off.

"I most certainly do not. Now I suggest that you go back to whichever rock that it is that you crawled out from and leave us alone."

Once more he steps forward towards me, but as he does he is quickly met with a hard super kick from my foot directly to his jaw that sends him to the floor, knocking him unconscious almost instantly. I lean over him, still seething in anger.

"That will teach him to never touch a woman like that ever again. In any case, I believe that we have seen enough of this place. It is time to leave."

"Yes, that would probably be best...before this man regains consciousness."

Taking my hand in his, Timothy and I begin walking back to the door as Paxar moves to stand over the unconscious drunken man herself, laughing.

"You just got knocked the fudge out!"

She continues laughing as she steps away from him to follow closely behind us as we leave the bar.

Sitting in bars drinking his cares away...that is what Al Envy has been doing for months. Not training and most certainly not competing. He is barely in good enough shape to wrestle, let alone step into the ring with the ACW International Champion after his lengthy layoff.

Yet even though he and I have not faced in a long time and I have not so much as given him a momentary thought for months, I still know his plan of attack in our match well in advance. He will attempt anything and everything, even things I would not expect, in order to gain an advantage...to prove his superiority over me.

There is just one problem with that. I began expecting the unexpected from people quite a long time ago. So let Al unleash all of his devious arsenal if he so desires, for I do not fear it in the slightest. I hold no fear, especially when I can see the onslaught approach.

At the end of our match, I will only have this to say to Mister Envy...

I am better than you.

I always have been been.

I always will be.
