I can't even explain it, I get nauseated just thinking about it: http://gma.yahoo.com/breaking-conn-school-district-locked-down-shooting-report-151955384--abc-news-topstories.html RIP to the heroic staff and students who lost their lives. My heart goes out to the families who are affected. I wish the worst, most inhumane death upon the killers. |

Witnessed this on the news at work during my dinner break. It never seizes to amaze me how often these shootings occur in America. And no, I'm not about to declare that gun control be initialized to prevent these tragic circumstances, because I'm not an idiot. Guns don't kill people. People kill people. Might just have to pay attention to the reports on what led to this disaster, but I guarantee some politician is going to blame graphic video games for leading to the shooter's psychotic episode or some bullshit like that. RIP to those who lost their lives. What a damn shame. |

Eh... I hate the whole comparison thing to other countries. The US is like WAY bigger than other countries, naturally we'd have more shit going on. And like HELL the UK and other "big time" countries don't have as much crime. I believe the UK is actually second in crime rate to us. And other countries aren't far behind. That said, the media is FUCKING UP all of the information (they keep changing their story and lying *rolls eyes*). But from what I gather... 27 dead. 7 adults: one is the school's Principal, one the school's psychologist, one the shooter's own mother and a teacher at the school, the other being staff 20 kids: most kindergarten children, none older than 10. The shooter(deceased) was one of two brothers; Adam Lanza. He was NOT known to be violent; the family was a good, tranquil family (the Lanza Family). The mother was most likely the target (she was known as a kind and personable woman), and the guns used in the shooting were registered to HER. This whole thing was unexpected from the shooter (as it always is with these cases). He had some form of mental problem (as his brother revealed). Logic states that he killed himself (since no cops fired their weapons), so he's already gotten the ultimate sentence (death). Parents were put into a nearby firehouse, either consoled for their losses or told their children would be with them shortly. The kids were told to hold hands (the buddy system) and run. They had to run past the principal's office... which obviously had some gruesome things in it. Both kids and parents are being interviewed about what happened. Speculation of other people involved. Vigils are happening across the US, from Washington to, of course, the people of Connecticut. More information likely to come within the next few days if not the next few hours. Not even two weeks til Christmas... what a jolly holiday season, huh? My heart and thoughts go out to all those affected, the victims' families and friends. *lights e-candle* |

That is a good point. Not that I was disagreeing subtly by saying that the UK was better at controlling violence like this than the US, because that's bullshit. We do have a high crime rate, as do other large countries. I think it's because the US is more ... how to say this ... exposed, to some degree? Influenced by the media no doubt. Again, wasn't comparing. However, the ones that ARE? They should look at their own country instead of accusing other countries of being shitty with their laws and jurisdictions. That's my way of saying that I fully believe a British person will campaign to eradicate the use of guns in America because guns kill people. *face-palm* |

MSNBC... a British guy already has. He was trying to convince multiple people that this happened because guns were allowed, and that over in England and other places where you aren't allowed to have weaponry for protection (and where things are more censored *cough cough*), this doesn't happen. Lolz, right... I'll believe that when pigs begin plying through space on unicorns. Kay? Kay. |

My hearts & prayers goes out to the victim's families. Even the kids lost their classmates & friends also. I hope that the person who killed these defensless kids & adults burn in hell. The kids & the adults who got tragically killed did not get asked to be killed the way that the killer did. |

I thought there were two shooters, there were two weapons at the site, and one went into the woods and was captured, I thought. I could be wrong though. It's amazing to me that guns aren't being distributed to principals and other care takers. I've never been a huge 2nd Amendment guy, but I am now. This is what happens when only the bad guy has guns; and to be honest, I'd trust my life in the hands of myself in the moment, rather than a cop who's fifteen minutes late and I have a bullet lodged in my brain. I hate to say it, but I have a hard time believing this guy is acting alone. Which, considering the statistics that 3-7% of the human population are sociopathic, is concerning. They walk among us, yet, I for some reason have a hard time believing that someone with no morals and capable of this is a human. My love goes out to the families, I pray for them. |

That's because guns aren't allowed in public sectors, such as schools and malls. The principal and caretaker in question can't bring in these weapons, even for protection. Edited by Matt Slater, Dec 14 2012, 07:43 PM.

Well the problem is people just walking in with weapons and firing away. It's like shooting fish in a barrel. This has happened way too many times for us not to change the rules to help the public live without bullets in their kidneys. After Columbine, we should've rethought it, after the Virginia Tech shooting...we should've defiantly done something. |

Listen, even if something did happen, the idiots and sociopaths of the world would still get guns, someway, somehow. A complete ban of every firearm in the States? They'll find a way to get it. Only for certain members of a confirmed organization? They'll find a way to get it. I do think that schools and malls should have some kind of sensory system though, like they do at the airport. Yeah it's developing a breach of privacy, finding out what people are bringing in and taking out, but this will ensure that guns are strictly prohibited from the premises. And to prevent someone trying to find a loop-hole in this problem, a police route could be mapped around the schools and malls every so often, scouting potential criminals. It seems like a Big Brother-esque initiative, but it might work ... maybe. Hopefully. |

New development: It's being said that the shooter had Aspergers (a type of Autism). I've known people with Autism... it doesn't make you go around shooting people up. :/ There has to be more to it than just that, mental illness wise... |

I actually have Aspergers. It is something that can be overcome with an extreme amount of hard work. Even so, Aspergers doesn't make you want to shoot kindergartners or your mother for that matter. It makes it harder to socialize and connect with others. |
