Class Dismissed

Two years ago, a partnership between two opposing individuals formed; one the student, one the mentor. They were incomparable, worlds apart with varying motives and perceptually fond intentions. Yet there was one desire that kept them similarly strong, one desire that was undoubtedly unbreakable.

Redemption.

Judas Dathan had strictly vowed to eradicate the misery and hallowed aura of his father's shadow; an infectious remnant that had attempted to mercilessly capsize his life and submerge him into the depths of darkness and mediocrity. The drunken beatings, the abusive neglect, the insincere utterances of inferiority; each of these events had driven Dathan to the edge of madness, maliciously changing him and altering his perceptions.

Professional wrestling was his only remaining outlet to avenge his shattered dreams and resurrect them in a different way. Succeeding was not an optional requirement; it was a necessity. Yet with the lingering burdens of his upbringing came the swarming torments of his career, making his objectives harder to finalize and gratifyingly achieve.

Various people vilified his efforts, looking down on him as if he were a permanent failure; an irreparable misfit that would not amount to anything. The voices from the corridors detailed his lacklustre skills and imminent calamities as he passed, yet they dispersed whenever he acknowledged their debilitating words. He was becoming an anti-social wreck, hardly trusting anyone and viewing them with the same angered eye.

They were all venomous parasites. They were all trying to stop him from succeeding, just because he didn't fit the same mold. They were all conspiring to eliminate his chances before he had even been given the opportunity to formulate them, just because of his behaviour ... just because of his attitude.

They couldn't stand him ... just because he was entirely different.

However, there was one person he could strangely confide in; a metaphorical guardian angel that could potentially improve his status and irrevocably quell the disturbing qualities that continued to enslave him. He could help Dathan silence the critical voices. He could help them look at his endeavours from a different perspective.

He could help Dathan ease the difficulties and open the door that would lead to his recuperative ascension, subsequently proving his worth and completing his sworn declarations that had been prominent in his mind since he first stepped into the wrestling ring.

That person was the nobly-proclaimed and universally respected entity known as Matt Slater.

Matt Slater may have been regarded as a legend based on his selfless exploits and credible accomplishments, but he had always maintained a humble vision. Arrogance and narcissistic egoism had never been amassed through his tailored characteristics. Whatever he bestowed was calm and understandably truthful.

Unfortunately, he had also been possessed by another feasible yearning to ultimately succeed; something that Dathan could relate to and emphatically approve of.

His family members had all been murdered by the heartless order of a syndicate leader turned sociopath, left as buried or cremated carcasses whose memories lingered in the forefront of Slater's mind. His wrestling career had reached a standstill, based on Slater's reluctance to compete again after the leader's demise had been confidentially documented by the authorities. He had been acquitted of private charges due to psychological trauma, factors that had been present throughout Slater's career by that point. The only things he had left to positively savour were his wife and son, two individuals that had barely survived the apocalyptic downfall of Slater's familial heritage and ancestry, and who were now residing in protective solitude.

Once Total Extreme Wrestling folded due to financial difficulties, filing a bankruptcy deal that stunned the wrestling world, Slater departed the company, unemployed and directionless. Negotiable offers were forwarded to his address and voicemail, but Slater couldn't decide not only on where to go, but what to do as a whole.

After being consoled by Amy and instructed that his life must go on, Slater's passion for the industry bloomed again.

He fought to return to the business he had adored since childhood. He didn't want to leave what had been with him before these troubling times.

He wanted to cherish the wrestling business as much, if not more so, than the wrestling business had cherished and comfortably accommodated him.

Slater joined New Edge Wrestling, a corporation featuring many talented wrestlers; including Judas Dathan, a man that had established his mission and who had joined the promotion at the exact same time. He had unknowingly followed in Slater's footsteps to the doors of New Edge, embarking on returning to a company that had hosted his earlier contests with mixed reactions.

The time was ripe for Dathan to approach Slater with a relatively-hesitant proposition, wearisome of the negativity and tarnished opportunities that he had been restricted from competing for. He was tired of the insults. He was tired of being second fiddle. He was tired of still being associated with his deceased father.

A drastic change needed to be made. And a change did occur.

Under Slater's guidance, Dathan improved significantly. But an obstacle cut their improvements short. After Slater defeated Dathan in startling fashion in their first match, the latter was terminated from the company under mysterious circumstances. When confronted about the termination, Slater learned from Dathan that New Edge had bitterly pushed him away, and that he was not welcomed back by any means.

If only Slater had known then that the deceptive plots had begun to form inside Dathan's complicated brain.

They formed the identity of Krisis that would conceal Dathan's entity, and surprisingly it worked.

Having been reprieved, Dathan continued his career, winning various championships in New Edge and even reigning as the Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion when he defeated Adrien Specter in a moment that stunned the viewing world.

Unfortunately, the celebrations wouldn't last long.

Jealous of Dathan's successes and struggling to cope with his depression, Slater feigned a rescue attempt at Kamikaze after Aaron Abraham had defeated Dathan for the prestigious prize. Having driven away members of the tyrannical cRu with a steel chair, Slater shocked the world when he turned on Dathan and struck him with the same instrument.

In that one instance of hatred, the battle lines had been drawn.

Consequently, Dathan's prolonged intentions grew stronger and more vicious.

The two fought inside a Hell in a Cell to decide a new No.1 Contender for the Undisputed Title, and Slater managed to outlast the religiously-documented "underdog". Dathan was left without an opportunity, and once New Edge closed its doors, he could only stew on what he had to do, by any means necessary.

He wanted to end Slater for good. He wanted to surpass him, overshadowing his celebrity status.

And once ACW's arrival came to fruition, those plans were deeply cemented.

After what had taken place over the past six months, Slater stared at the camera in front of him, stoic yet determined. He was fully aware of what the Christmas Show entailed, and his eyes did not hide that realization.

'The time has come, Judas.'

'Two years of choices and consequences have led to this pivotal moment. In retrospect, I never thought this day would come. I always envisioned a respectful friendship lasting between us. Clearly that hasn't worked out. And why is that?'

'There are multiple reasons as to why ... all of which we both know. One simplistic memory can sprout at any moment that defines our individual roads. The car accident in Newark ... the chair shot from Kamikaze ... the Hell in a Cell encounter that same year ... but none of them will compare to the memory we will create in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.'

'Advertisers and reporters alike have stated that this will be our "Final Chapter". Even you have uttered those fabled words on more than one occasion. However, I don't buy that phrase. I don't accept that stipulation, because I know that at sometime in the future we'll meet again.'

'Perhaps I'm downplaying the gravity of the situation at hand. Perhaps I'm simultaneously insulting the audience's intelligence by telling them right here and now that this will not be our climactic showdown as it was intended to be.'

'But let me tell you this for a fact. It's going to be the most personal one.'

'Now I'm not going to fully blame you for what has transpired these past two years. Some of the fault has been my own, and I've attempted to atone for those mistakes. But just like me ... you can't let the past go. You had to berate me with challenges and offensive verbiage. You had to try and end my career with a vehicular conspiracy. You had to try and get the last laugh by bringing Amy and Gabriel into the equation, and somehow show the world that you were the better man this entire time using those acts alone.'

'All you've done ... is pissed me off to the point where the laughter stops.'

'I hope you had your fun, Judas. I hope you spent plenty of nights struggling to sleep due to the excitement flourishing in your mind, keeping you energized and entertained. Well now, it's my turn to gain some level of enjoyment.'

'There is something I never taught you, Judas ... something profound and illustrious that has so far evaded your catalogue of knowledge. The emptiness of that educational piece is noticeable whenever I look into your eyes. There is a void in you, a part of you that has persistently yearned for sustenance, hungered by neglect ... yet you won't satisfy its needs. Do you know what that is, Judas?'

'Respect.'

'Respect has been something that I could never teach. Not because I was inexperienced, but because it is a natural inclination, bred from the depths of the heart. You used to maintain an essence of respect. Now you've thrown it away, and for what? Power? Prestige? Supremacy? You have the ACW Ultimate Championship in your grasp, and I'm well aware that you've been the most dominant champion in the organization since its inception, but throughout your tenure, you've completely disregarded what it means to be a moral idol and you've disgraced the conduct of Professional Wrestling. That throne has been bastardized by your cancerous personality, Judas, and I can't stand to see it erode under the congregating blackness that continues to seep from your pores any longer.'

'I'm not implying that you aren't worthy of representing this promotion as its Ultimate Champion.'

'I'm implying ... that you simply shouldn't be.'

'You've tried to reform ACW into your own little playground of destruction along with Cera ... but in the end, what will it be worth? Who will be left to vanquish and manipulate as you please when the others have been banished and forced out the door? What will you do? Dwell ... reflect ... count the meaningless hours that seem to have no rhyme or reason? There needs to be a balance to everything, Judas ... and I'm your counter-weight. I'm the one that will maintain the equality of this organization ... but not just me.'

'Vanessa, Reya Serra, Seth Iser ... we're all fighting for the same goal, and that is to preserve not only ACW, but our respective origins.'

'If it wasn't for the wrestlers and pioneers that came before us, Judas, you wouldn't have a business to work for and try to mercilessly conquer with your schemes. Every day would be a dream of what could have been, just like mine would have been, if it wasn't for the legends and innovators that built the business brick by sacrificial brick. I respected those men and women then, and I still respect them to this very day. They granted me the absolute privilege and freedom to do what I've always wanted to do, and that was to wrestle to my heart's content. It wasn't about the money. It wasn't about the fame. It wasn't about achieving global popularity and a complimentary status that I could attach to my name everywhere I ventured.'

'It was about doing what I loved, and in turn keeping the business alive so that I could inspire a young, aspiring person in the future ... just like they inspired me.'

'But you want to tear that down. You want to take away my dream ... my livelihood ... and cast it all away. You want to relish upon the prospect of ending my career by your bloodied hands because you believe it will be my ultimate punishment. But I won't be the only one affected. The industry as a whole will be ruined and torn asunder because of you and your egomaniacal exploits ... and you simply won't care.'

'You've done everything that you've possibly aimed to achieve in your career ... and as a token of gratitude, you're going to break the foundations of ACW and watch it crumble on top of me.'

'I need to defeat you, Judas. I need to be the one that stands victorious at the Christmas Special, because of what it will mean for the future.'

'Just remember this wise quotation, Judas...'

"If you have knowledge, let others light their candles at it."

'Because the knowledge you'll be receiving ... will smother your entire existence with unparalleled ferocity. What burns inside me now will consume you whole, and when the ashes of the inferno have been gathered ... you will be forever enlightened.'

'And after I've basked in the warming glow of the embers that have scorched your malicious reign ... I'll be the one that will blow the remnants out, along with the flame that lingers upon your withered candle.'

'Judas Dathan...'

'Class ... dismissed.'
