~Legos~

They gather all of the pieces together and build upward. The colors are simple but effective, and the satisfying click of one brick attaching to the other causes a smile to play upon their lips. A creation of blue and red and so on; they've worked so hard on it. Yet suddenly someone else comes tumbling forward and kicks it over. They yell... they scream and complain, but are simply laughed at. I can't take it; the fact that everyone else just stands there.

Why wasn't anyone helping them pick up the pieces...?

Tugging at my collared peacoat, I slowly walked over to the kid, who sat on the ground crying as the other child who'd knocked his Legos over laughed with a couple other brats. The young boy looked up at me, sniffling, as I stared quietly down at him... before smiling comfortingly. Plopping onto the ground beside the kid, I picked up a red Lego piece and attached it to a blue one.

"When they knock it all down... pick up the pieces and start over." My electric blue eyes softened as the kid blinked, before quietly grabbing a couple pieces himself. We sat there in silence, putting his Lego house back together. Once we'd finished, nearly an hour had passed. A barrage of colors stood before us, shaped into a large castle (almost as tall as the boy!). The kid grabbed a little flag from his Lego bin and reached up to the top of our castle. Once the flag clicked into place, a grin formed on his face and he stepped back to admire his work.

"That's certainly fancier than my castle." I commented, placing my hands on my hips. "I only have two stories in mine. And mine isn't nearly as colorful."

The boy giggled, before calling for his nearby mother. We were in a mall in Mississippi, inside a toy store. It was also kind of a daycare center, where parents dropped off their kids to the hands of the employees while they sauntered off to buy Christmas presents. So kids filled the little store, playing with the toys as the employees laughed and interacted with them. I'd been walking by.

"Look! Look mom! I made a Lego Castle!" The little boy dragged his mother over and pointed at it excitedly. His mother, a thin woman with only a couple bags in her hands, smiled tiredly as she responded.

"I thought you were just building a Lego house."

"I was, but then some jerks knocked it over and I had to start over and then this lady came over and we did it... over..." He blinked again, before grinning up at me. I smiled slightly at him, before raising my eyes to the woman. She eyeballed me for a moment, before a look of realization crossed her face.

"Oh, you're that woman from... wrestling. My brother likes to watch those shows. One of his favorite wrestler's is Seth Iser. He also likes Frank Finelli. Although usually all he talks about is the divas in that one fed... ACW? Honestly, they're all sluts the-"

I lifted my eyebrows as her eyes widened, realizing who she was talking to again. Going red, she squeezed her son's shoulders and smiled sheepishly at me. "Sorry. I didn't mean..."

"Nah, it's alright. Most divas are pretty.. sleazy. Hell, I can be at times... Reya's probably the only one who hasn't been."

"Reya Serra?" The woman cried, with a bright smile. "Whenever my brother comes over to watch and she comes on, I love it! She's such a respectable woman, with great talent."

"That's my sister." I crossed my arms across my chest and grinned proudly at the kind words concerning my half-sister. The little boy, who'd been looking back and forth between us, suddenly exclaimed loudly...

"I like Matt Slater!" He unzipped his jacket to show a 'Shockwave' t-shirt, with Slater performing his famous move. I couldn't help but smile as the kid waved his arms excitedly. "He's so cool!"

"And good looking. A few men in that show are."

"Federation." I murmured, correcting her before eyeballing her kindly. "Bet your hubby looks at the chicks as much as you do the guys."

"Oh, I don't have a husband. I'm a single mother." She laughed embarrassedly as I kept my gaze on her face. A glint of sadness was easily seen in her eyes when she mentioned that, her son's voice piping up.

"Mom says my dad's a lazy, good for nothin' assho-"

The woman quickly covered her son's mouth, going red as she looked up at me apologetically. "Sorry about that. We're bothering you, aren't we?"

"Not at all. Do you have more shopping to do?" I gave her a look and the woman paused, glancing at her small, rather empty bags for a moment before smiling weakly and nodding. Instructing the kid to keep playing with his Legos, I led the woman away. "Being a single mother must give you some money troubles."

"What... does that have to do with you?" She looked offended as she continued walking beside me. Shrugging, I stared forward and responded quietly.

"It's gotta be tough. You're lucky to have a son who's so strong."

"I..." The woman put a hand to her head, looking frustrated as she looked at me unhappily before continuing. "What did you say to him? I saw you talking to him..."

"Something everyone should learn at a young age." I responded, pausing in front of a shop I noticed her gaze had traveled to. Reaching into my coat pocket, I continued in a soft voice. "Even if what you build crumbles, either on it's own or having been knocked down... you lean down, pick up the pieces, and build again. If something falls apart... would you leave it in a pile? Or would you try to put it back together?"

I pulled out a few 50 dollar bills and shoved them into her hands. "The way you looked at your son when he was playing with the toys and talking about Matt and all... like you wished that you could make all of his wishes come true. Like your heart was being torn to shreds because you know you simply can't. I mean... hell, you're crying."

"What? I'm not..." She froze suddenly when a tear began to trickle down her cheek. She quickly wiped it away as I smiled gently at her, reaching my hand out to gently touch her cheek.

"The strongest of people do anything to keep everyone else's Lego houses standing. Yet their's have already fallen down. This happens especially around Christmas time. Paying for people's meals. Helping the homeless. Giving needy children a chance to have a merry Christmas... I hate the holidays, personally. Yet I love the humanity the most, around this time. Oh... also for you..."

"Why...? You don't even know me..." She interrupted, looking at the money in her hand quietly, before looking at me warily. I stared to the side fot a moment, before looking back and shooting her a bright grin.

"I like yours and your son's smiles."

She blinked as I turned on my heel and waved a hand her way. "Anywho, come to the Reed Green Coliseum. I'll tell security to look out for ya. I'm good with faces, after all."

"Wait... you mean?"

Glancing back at her, I shrugged. "I'll get you guys backstage passes. And good seats. And my good friend Matt Slater would love to meet your son. Kay? Kay. Til then!"

She put a hand over her mouth, a shocked look on her face as she looked close to bursting into tears. Ignoring this, I started walking away, hearing her call back to me, yelling thank you. But I shoved my hands back into my coat pockets and stared downward, keeping a quick but steady pace. Sometimes you can tell when someone takes more care of those they love... then themselves. It's not fair. Such good people suffering... in place of their kids or parents or anyone they care for.

"How silly..."

"What is, love?"

The voice of my manager made me jump, as I lifted my gaze to Dawn. She handed me a coffee from the cafe in the mall. As I took a long sip, I started walking forward, toward said cafe. I paused though, when I noticed a familiar face at the front counter. Quickly turning around, I saw that the woman I'd been talking to was gone. With a frown, I sighed and twisted back around, calmly strolling over to where none other than Matt Slater stood. My personal assistant, Tori Latoya, was standing near him, gawking. As I got closer, she slowly moved forward and bent down as Slater got his coffee, before Tori then grabbed his calves and ran her hands up them once.

"You were right Miss V. He does have great calves."

Matt looked down at her, stunned, before looking over at me with a half-smirk after chuckling. "I work out considerably. If you think those are big, you should feel my biceps."

I choked on my coffee when he said 'big'. I'm not a pervert. Talking about his calves simply came up in normal conversation before. Dawn, Tori and I had discussed how... the men in ACW would look... in dresses... okay, so maybe I'm a pervert. But it's an intriguing topic! Personally I think Xandor Cross would look nice in one of those mini dresses Dawn wears. Dat ass. But anyway, after I composed myself, I smiled slightly at Slater.

"Hi."

"Hello Vanessa. How are your holidays going?"

"Shitty. I hate the holidays." He actually looked bewildered at my blunt answer. People usually did when I told them that. I didn't like celebrating them much. Sure, the lights were pretty and the mood was uplifting. But... I just had my reasons.

"That's a bit surprising. I ran into Reya, who's also here, and she seemed to be enjoying the holidays. And I know... Cera... did." He raised an eyebrow at me calmly. "Speaking of which, why did you ask her for this match again? You don't exactly wrestle anymore, correct? Not even in other feds it would seem."

"Yeah, I don't do much anymore besides the whole G.M thing. I try to keep in shape though." I murmured, putting a hand self-consciously to my stomach, before shrugging. "Anyway, my reason is simple. I'm sick of her acting high and mighty. The ACW GM won't lose to an arrogant brat who thinks that she can overturn that which I'm trying to keep grounded."

"Of course she won't. But one of us could have-"

"No." I snapped, interrupting him. My blue eyes darkened considerably, an almost hate-filled look replacing my usually cheerful demeanor. "I don't expect you, or anyone else, to understand what has to be done. You know what I'm sick of? People, who don't do nearly as much as others, trying to act like they deserve more power. Controlling, self-serving bitches who act like they give two fucks about something one minute then can't be assed the next."

"Love, calm down..." Dawn murmured as Slater watched me, seeming concerned. But my anger had begun rising again, as it had at the previous event when I'd found out about a stipulation I didn't know about. Everything was being twisted to fit into their plans. That fucking bitch always go what she wanted. Especially around this time of year...

"The way Cera treats Reya disgusts me." I snapped, hand tightening on my coffee as I rattled on. "I know... I know deep down she really does care about her. Of course she does, they're blood. But one minute she acts like she gives a damn and the next she whips a baseball bat into her face! And to rub the fact that I'm only Reya's half sister right in my face? Well I'm fucking sorry that my whore of a mother decided to fuck our father after their mommy dearest decided to disappear off the face of the earth..."

"Vanessa..." Slater grabbed some napkins, and I noticed that I had squeezed my coffee so tightly that it had spilled all over my hand. Realizing that coffee is indeed hot to the skin, I yelped and waved my hand around, wailing. Matt carefully dabbed at my hands as I sniffled, Tori turning her head to the side at us as Dawn continued to stare stoically.

"Vanessa. Why are you so angry around the holidays?" My manager raised a curious eyebrow my way. "Even talking about Cera normally... usually you're calmer."

"I'm honestly surprised that you aren't informed of the reasoning behind her rather cold demeanor..." Slater responded, lifting his gaze to Dawn now.

"I've never understood it. And she never explains herself."

They both glanced at me as I pulled my hand away from Matt, snatching the wet washcloth from the cafe worker nearby, wiping the stickiness off before tossing it back at them. I then nonchalantly began strolling away, Tori scrambling after me but Slater and Dawn staring after me in confusion. "Love, where...?"

"I can't keep still for this long. Sorry we couldn't have a nice conversation Matt. I guess shit gets in the way sometimes." I smiled sardonically at him, receiving a still befuddled look. But I shook my head in response before letting the smile soften. "We'll talk again later, alright? Expect a present and a candy cane!"

I hurriedly skipped away, continuing down the mall's hall before turning a corner and stopping. Putting a hand to my head, I groaned and punched the nearby wall, before yelping and pulling back to rub it. "Goddammit... what's wrong with me..."

"You do not seem to be in the holiday spirit."

Blinking, I turned to see Reya Serra and Paxar Vega at this portion of the mall. So Slater really had run into her. Rather recently, too. My older sister smiled warmly at me as Paxar frowned.

"Poor wall."

"Hey, it deserved it. Walls are suspicious. And creepy." I eyeballed the wall with narrowed eyes, as Tori (who'd kept up with me) spoke up innocently.

"Not as creepy as those things on that Doctor Who special. The one that talked about the monsters in the show. The Silence? And those weeping angel things... creepy."

"Oh god... not the silence. Fucking creepy as hell... ughhh... nightmarrres." I cringed, as Paxar's eyed widened interestedly.

"The weeping angels probably gave more people nightmares."

Grinning at Vega, I crossed my arms across my chest. "Eh... but the weeping angels remind me of the boos from the Mario games."

Paxar laughed as Reya and Tori looked at each other in confusion. Waving the nerdy conversation off, I returned my focus to my sister. "Anywho. Why're you at the mall?"

"Paxar dragged me here. I do not mind it much though. People seem cheerful, and the decorations are very pretty." She smiled and nodded happily. "Not to mention, it is nearly the birthday of the Lord."

Dawn suddenly sauntered from around the corner with a fresh coffee for me, handing the drink to me before speaking to Reya. "Actually, there is specific evidence stating that the birth of Jesus was actually not the exact date of Christmas, but days after or before. It has been traditional to celebrate it on that specific day and thus, we do so."

"Oh who cares. The point is, Jesus is the reason for the season." Paxar snapped at Dawn, who smirked in response.

"Paxar. It's been a while, dear. I'll make sure that the staff puts mistletoe right above Reya's dressing room for... easy access."

"Oh please don't. That freak Jen will try to make out with Reya." Paxar moaned as Dawn rolled her eyes, annoyed that her flirting went over Vega's head. A spark of realization crossed Reya's eyes as she suddenly spoke to me.

"Speaking of Jen, you are facing her friend. And our sister. This match has happened before though, has it not?"

"Yeah. She won last time. From dumb luck." I grumbled, staring down for a moment before lifting my confident gaze toward the Herald. I wouldn't snap at her too. I'd already felt bad enough about Matt... I really wanted to wish him a happy holiday. I would at the event. I already had a present ready for him. It wasn't much. Hell, it was kind of silly. But I wanted people to have a Merry Christmas. So at least someone could.

"I am rooting for you, Vanessa, of course. But..." I broke from my thoughts as my sister paused suddenly.

I stared at Reya quietly. I knew she wanted us all to get along. I think one of the things she hoped for most would be for us to spend one Christmas together, as sisters... as a family. We could never do that when we were younger. And we still had pieces laying all over the ground, surrounding us... keeping us away from each other. Even for me and Reya. There was no clear path.

"Reya... I can't this year. I just can't. But... next year..." I paused, rocking back and forth on my feet for a moment before smiling at her sheepishly. "I'd love to spend Christmas with you... and even Cera. Hopefully this will be behind us. And hopefully by then she and I can tolerate each other enough to be able to spend a holiday together as a family."

Reya stared thoughtfully at me for a moment, before a smile made it's way onto her lips as well. "I would like that."

"Good! Now go play with Timothy or whatever. Dawn, stop looking at Paxar like she's a piece of meat. Let's go. We have more presents to buy." Waving at a now blushing Reya, and a slightly weirded out Paxar, I dragged my manager and assistant away, calling back to Reya. "Merry Christmas Reya! Love you!"

"I love you too, Vanessa. Merry Christmas." She smiled kindly at me, waving in return as I quickly scurried away. After a few moments, Dawn yanked out of my grip and frowned at me.

"You did it again."

"Did what?"

"Took off like a bat out of hell, dearest. As though you are avoiding people." Dawn brushed herself off as I loudly slurped my coffee. "You did it to Matthew as well. I told him that the holidays are difficult for you and you honestly hope that he has a pleasant day."

"Of course I do. I'll send him a text apologizing." Grumbling, I pulled out my cell and noticed a voice message. Dialing '1', I listened to it to hear Frank Finelli's voice. He'd wished me a Merry Christmas. Smiling, I texted Slater a Merry Christmas and a quick apology, before dialing in Frank's number. Not getting an answer, I spoke quietly as I left a message.

"Hey Mr Finelli. I'm not a huge fan of the holidays, but I'll still wish you the happiest. Thanks for the Merry Christmas, and I hope you have a fantastic one too. I got everyone a present, and I know you can buy whatever you want but... I wanted to give people something from me, personally. Take care."

Hanging up, I sighed and shoved my phone back into my pants pocket and looked at Dawn and Tori, who both stared at me curiously. Going over to nearby benches, wrapped in Christmas decor, I plopped down and sipped at my coffee, Dawn first to speak. "So you got presents for everyone?"

"Yup. Tori, take notes. We still have some to buy." My assistant quickly pulled out a pad of paper and pen, before looking at me expectantly. Smirking, I nodded. "For Mr Finelli, I got a watch."

"A... watch?" Tori gave me a slightly skeptical look, but I grinned and nodded.

"Built into the watch is this guillotine that, when you click the button on the side, lowers quickly to show the current temperature of wherever he is, a compass, and moonphase. You click the button again and the guillotine rises, and that's where the time and date is. Cool huh?"

"W-wow."

"That must have been expensive." Dawn murmured with a yawn, and I smiled proudly.

"I had it custom made."

"What did you get Matthew?"

"A cup!"

The other two women just stared at me, Dawn slapping a palm to her forehead. Sticking out my lower lip, I stared downward before murmuring quietly, "I made it myself..."

"You made him a cup? What are you, a child?"

"Hey!" I cried, frowning unhappily. "I worked hard on it! I learned how to do that shit back in highschool. The local art school let me use their products and oven and viola. It's for tea! A sleek, dark blue cup painted with wisps of silver and 'Matt Slater' printed all fancy-like on it's side. I'm proud of it!"

"Please don't tell me that you got everyone something so... custom-made..." Dawn scoffed, and I shook my head.

"Naw. Only friends and family. Except Cera..." Shrugging, I shook my head before grinning. "I got Reya a custom made bible though. It's the usual shiny black, with a strong binding, a fancy bookmark, her name printed in the bottom corner of it, and certain quotes from the page that are well-known or worthwhile printed on the sides of the writing in the bible, as well as facts about the Christian faith at the top of the page. It's full of goodies!"

Lifting my right wrist, I showed off a sleek, expensive looking bracelet labeled 'Divinity' on it, 'Sisters' on the other. "And I got her one of these."

"Dayum Miss V." Tori cried, looking at the bracelet in awe. "I mean, the gifts are dope and all, but you ain't gonna have much money left after this..."

"Well... I'm probably just gonna get everyone else $40 gift cards to their favorite restaurants. The staff took down everyone's answer and gave me the list. Might give our new member, Jesse Styles, a t-shirt saying 'I Helped Make the ACW GM Famous'. Cuz I'm a bish. And our newest innovators will probably get a bunch of free ACW shiz. Mr Iser will get the other piece of pottery I made at that art school... I'm not sure what it is, it's er... abstract... but it says 'Respect', 'Strength' and 'Dignity' painted all around it."

I nodded firmly as an amused Dawn shook her head at me. She was noticing the change in my mood. Maybe it was the whole gift-giving thing. I enjoyed giving things to people and seeing their reactions. It was fun to give. At least to me, it was. But I wasn't stopping with just the normal gifts either. There was one other type of gift...

"Outfits and/or accessories."

"...you must be joking." Dawn just gazed at me sarcastically, but I smirked and shook my head, telling Tori to jot these down as what I needed to buy as well.

"For Mr Brilliance and Styles are getting reindeer antlers. Sexy Lexi is SO getting a sexy elf outfit herself. And Mr Ocean will get an elf outfit as well, to match his tag partner! His friend, Kodiak? He can get big elf shoes. Reya will get a 'Happy Birthday Jesus' t-shirt. Mr Cross will get this cool cross necklace I saw earlier, that kinda looks like a Celtic cross, but it retains it's 'Christian' look and has 'Tis the Season' going along it's side. T'was badass."

"Is that it?"

"Hell naw. I thought about getting Judas a fleshlight, but he has that Jen chick for that..." I paused, making a face as Tori innocently asked Dawn what a fleshlight was. Clearing my throat, I continued. "Uh, I guess get him, Thor and Cera 'Merry Fucking Christmas' or 'Fuck off, it's Christmas' buttons I saw. Suits them, I spose. Uhm... Steve Thomas can have a light up hat that plays 'Rockin Around the Christmas Tree'. Al Envy can have a Santa-esque vest. That'd be cool. Mr Iser and Poppa K are getting Santa hats because big dudes in Santa hats is amusing. Lisa, Ashley and Shelly can get wicked Christmas-y boots, maybe with lil bells on the sides."

"Ooo, cute." Tori jotted all this down cheerily as I counted on my fingers before nodding and adding the final two.

"Slater's getting a tight fitting, complete Santa outfit. That's my present to the female fans. And Mr Finelli can have an armband with 'Christmas, Executioner Style' on it! BAM!"

I popped to my feet after shouting, making the bustling people of the mall gawk over at me. Sticking my tongue out at them, I began walking in the direction we'd come from before, knowing Reya and Matt were most likely long gone by now. Dawn sighed grouchily before following suit, Tori hot on her tail. We were about to head into a store to purchase some of the things I planned to get when a shout made me freeze at the doorway. Looking over, I saw the little boy from before, followed by his mother.

He ran up excitedly, his smile shining. God, it nearly blinded me. The goofy grin faded from my face as he scurried up to me and held out a box wrapped with a small, thin ribbon. Both him and his mom smiled at me, saying Merry Christmas and thank you, before started to walk off. But the kid turned back around and said one last thing to me.

"Even if they're apart, you can always snap them back together and build something, ya know? Cuz they'll always fit together!"

He smiled at me one last time before turning and scurrying to follow his mother. I looked down, before slowly unraveling the ribbon and letting it float silently to the floor. I then gingerly opened the box to see four single, rectangular Lego pieces. They were each hand painted (the colors off and slightly more glittery than normal Legos) in different colors, and I caught my breath. Snapping my head up to search the crowd, I swallowed when I saw that he and his mother were now gone. I carefully closed the box again, knowing one last present for three different people now, as I made my way into the store with a warm smile painted upon my face.

White for Reya

Silver for Matt

Red for Frank

And Gold for Me

Lego pieces connect to create something. You can build something higher and higher. And if it's knocked down? If someone kicks it over? Do you cry over spilled Legos? Or do you take up the pieces, and with the help of others' own pieces, create something even better than before? How you build your Lego house, and what you paint it, determines who you are. And how you react when your house falls to pieces... defines your strength. Who knew you could learn something from a child's building tool... a toy; Legos.

Merry Christmas.
