: says to :Tangaroa's Favored Son::.... The roundship had been tossing for days. Green with illness, she remained below decks, hearing the horrid crashes, the screams, the cries. In the cages beside her were the girls she'd purchased, some from the depths of the Tahari, others from the port at Brundisium. She had hoped to make the voyage to the southern ports in peace, but that was denied her by the Priest-Kings. She cursed, then felt her gorge rise and threw up in the bucket~

: says to KataraSlaver of Tarnburg:.... you had no idea how far off course you were. Instead you were headed west... very far west towards an island chain filled with savages. Tangaroa, the local sea god was not very friendly towards your ship. The waves kept crashing against the hull of the roundship. The waters were unforgiving... hurling you, and those with you towards an as to yet unknown fate*

: says to :Tangaroa's Favored Son::.... As the Ahn passed (she didn't have a clue how many as the ship's tossing and turning meant that the Ahn glass was useless. She fell asleep, exhaustion at last winning out over the storm. It wa sa fitfull sleep, though; the wailing of the slaves and the crashes of the waves and thunder shook the entire time.

Suddenly, though, she was jerked awake as the ships rolled. Eyes wide in terror, she flung herself to the beams, pressing hands and feet against the woodwork,s creaming all the while. Priest-Kings, but what was happening? How would she survive this? A great creaking was heard, and a shuddering as the ship burst in two, shattering agains ta great rock. She watched, numb, as the cages, one by one, slipped into the sea, the girls panick-stricken looks hautning the poor Slaver. Katara held the spar, gripping a thick beam as the ship fell apart. She lost her grip and kicked, swimming as best she could in her robes. At last she grabbed something,a beam, a pice of decking, a part of the hull. She had no idea. The storm continued to rage, carrying her further and further away from the sinking vessel.

: says to KataraSlaver of Tarnburg:.... *The storm was violent... the winds were pressing towards the islands. In the darkness of the evening storm, you may see large beach fires in the distance... the ship was going down. The water was filling the compartments, leaving those who weren't able to swim away as food for the sharks... and the sea tharlarions. The islands were still a little bit aways... But they were within reach for the strong. Who knew, you might end up on an uninhabited one. There were more than a dozen decent sized islands. But then, if you weren't found... you might not find a way to survive in this island paradise. Okay so it didn't seem like it was paradise yet. Most of the people, minus the beach guards, were inside right now. The storm had driven most of the islanders indoors.

: says to :Tangaroa's Favored Son::.... As she clung to the piece of decking. She recognized it now. Too clean to be from the hold, and stained with salt. She felt her heart pounding, watched as a scream rent the stormy air as a shark bit through a sailor hurrying his way tot he piece of flotsam she had found. PAnicking, she huddled, clinging to the deck until she lost herself to the fear and exhaustion, falling asleep

When she awoke, the woman found herself laying on the flimsy piece of wood, washed up on a sandy beach. She sputtered, feeling chilled to the bone, but thankful she was alive and out of the storm. She rose, weak, hungry, lost and alone. Shuddering, she saw her right foot was bare, her shoe lost somewhere out there. Practical, she kicked off the left and rose. She was weak, but alive, and that was something. Her robes, though, were torn, tattered and storm stained. She didn't get rid of them as, well, what if she ran into people here?

: says to KataraSlaver of Tarnburg:.... *You see here's the thing. You landed near the guards. Their beach fires were a beacon for those who were caught in the storm. Not that they would survive. They were in canoes... much smaller vessels than a round ship without any of the benefits of protection of those who manned such vessels. They would most likely find a grotto or beach to land on and wait. The guards were watching as pieces of wood, and another one of those things...(sail) came to shore. This one wasn't green. It was a brightly patterened blue sail... yes blue. The guards did notice movement... and one of them grabbed his taiaha, a weapon made of a wooden head piece sharpened to a point, with a flat base, almost like an oar. He started walking towards you... joking about how if it was another sea sleen he would smash it's skull, and save its skin for clothing. The man though, in case it was a human, called out to his friend*Kaleo, go get one of the Priests.* Now here was the interesting thing. The Priests were actually servants of the Priest Kings... in the same way that the Initiates were... Why? Because they were one and the same. That was the only tie to the rest of Gor... that one caste. They knew the truth of Gor... but hid it in tales about their ancestors and mythical gods. The man ran off to go get a Priest. Why a Priest? because no one would have survived a storm like that... therefore they were supernatural, and the Priests were the ones that dealt with the super natural. It wasn't too long before the man, in a short flaxen grass skirt, carrying the imposing 5' tall taiaha stood in front of you. In the darkness, the tattoos on his face were barely visible as he wasn't facing the fires*

: says to :Tangaroa's Favored Son::.... She took about two steps, then clenched over, vomiting what little was left inside her. She slowly stood up, to her full height. She was tall, two inches short of six foot. Hearing something, she turned and shrieked, stepping back, slipping a little in the pool of vomit. An alien looking man, his face dark in the night sky, was coming closer, carrying an oar. He looked vicious, angry. She swallowed, her fear ripening like sa-tarna in early autum. When he reached her her teeth chattered. "Please. I am . . I'm Katara of Tarnburg. I mean no harm to you or yours, Sir"

: says to KataraSlaver of Tarnburg:.... *While his face was hidden, because of the light of the beach fires being to his back... your face was in the light. And you thought he was terrifying. He had heard the tales of the Ghost Men. Here was one... It had to be. She was so pale. It was like realizing the boogieman was real. Already the other guard had let people know someone was washed ashore. Some were walking out, even now in the high winds, just to see what kind of person were to survive this storm at sea. One of the people was Tane. His entire face covered in swirling pattern tattoos. Tane looked to you... as he walked up besides his guard, it would be apparent he was a relatively large man... at 6'3". he was built for warfare. There were some who reveled in duels... Tane loved warfare. It was how he had managed to bring the other islands to their knees. He folded his arms, and then the Priest showed up. Tane looked to the guard, and he said* Get everyone inside the village, and stay there yourself.* Tane's hand gripped the patu tucked into his belt, and he looked to you. Aside from the Priest, he seemed to be the only one who saw this coming. Not this actual event, but... first contact with Ghost Men.*Why are you here?* Was what he asked you. He didn't care about your name, or even species yet... he cared why you were on his island*

: says to :Tangaroa's Favored Son::.... She felt utterly out of place. Her robes, torn as they were, clung to her, badly. She saw that the man was nearly undressed and wondered…no, that oar was a weapon. She was sure of it. He wasn’t a slave. Besides, he had no collar whatsoever. Where on Gor was she? She glanced around as a small cluster of people came up. She stepped back, climbing over and beyond her life raft, a timber breaking under her bare foot. She heard the command, and looked, frightened, as the guards and the others disappeared. This was . . .odd. Her reverie broken by the large, commanding man, she said, feeling utterly confused. “The storm. . . my ship was destroyed. . . “ the impact of that hit her now, hard. Her blue eyes widened . . “All my people, my property.” She swallowed. “Gone” She trembled now, bowing her head in fear and loss.

: says to KataraSlaver of Tarnburg:.... You're not here deliberately?*He seemed a bit confused... not just at that... but at the word ship. They had no ships. They had boats... canoes. The idea of a ship was alien to him. He let her have her moment now... waiting a few ihn. Then he said.*You are to come with me.*he was already thinking of what to do with her. She couldn't go free. She could warrn the other Ghost men of their islands. If she did, they might come. He didn't like the idea. There was something in his gut that said, bad idea bad idea. He turned and started up the beach. While he was working on what to do with you, he was also planning on erasing your life raft, and the wood that had managed to wash up, the bodies too. He would have to pick some men he trusted not to ask questions about his orders. He had a few in mind. Within a few ehns he was at the wall of the village... thick temwood beams that went around the village. He looked back, with a hurry the fuck up look.Tane was not necessarily patient. That's why he had so few slaves. They usually didn't survive past a few months. Good thing was, they had access to slaves on the other islands*

: says to KataraSlaver of Tarnburg:.... His house was not in the center but off to the side. In the center was the meeting house. Both the fronts of his house, and the meeting house were elaborately carved, showing tales and artwork of sworls and images of demon like creatures called wheku, pronounced Feku. Tane walked inside his house and removed his feather cape, as the slaves brought torches inside, so they could see better. Tane had decided that he wouldn't kill this woman. So that was a start. But, he needed to figure out what to do with you. Finally, he said something that shouldn't surprise you...* Give me a reason not to put you to the collar.* He wasn't sure how the gods would treat him collaring a Ghost Woman. He needed a valid reason to not do that. She would have to live with them. There of course was another way, give her to one of his warriors as a Companion. She could, possibly make a good second or third wife for someone. Not a first though... no. His whole body was tattooed, and most of it could be seen, now that he removed the feather cape from his shoulders.*And make it good

: says to :Tangaroa's Favored Son::.... She looked about as she entered. The architecture was beyond what she had ever seen, the carved and decorated woodwork, the strange, savage, spitting carved images. It was an alien place indeed. She swallowed entering the house behind the burly man. Now that torches were brought in, she saw that he was human, but tattooed, ink staining swirls and patterns into his darkish skin. She looked around, seeing some of the others, women in brocaded beadwork, their hair bound by similarly adorned headbands. When he sat, facing her, and gave her that question, she said, “Well, umm, I can help if others . . “ suddenly she realized something. All here were of the same skin tone and hair collar. She might well be the only blonde, blue eyed person . . She swallowed. “Because I am a Free Woman of Tarnburg, a great and mighty city on the mainland. I can speak to you of the mainland and tell you our ways and our legends, in case others come.” She offered a hopeful smile at that.

: says to KataraSlaver of Tarnburg:.... City?* He shook his head. Not important. It might just mean tribe. And all tribes thought that they were magnificent. So, that really didn't matter to him. What mattered was whether or not what she said would be of importance.*You would do the same as a slave.*Yes he was giving you another chance. He didn't order the collar be brought, not yet. And yes, you would talk. He could be very convincing when he wanted to be. Tane took a cup of water from a slave who presented it to him. He brought it to his lips before he said* We will eat.*With that he walked into another room, and sat on the floor. In front of him on a woven mat was food. Lots of fish. Tons of fish. Suls that on the inside were almost an orange pink inside and were sweeter than regular suls, kalana berries other aquatic life like urchins, cracked open and cooked in their own juices over a fire. Tane reached forward and pulled a fish towards him. He brought it up, and started to eat, spitting the bones to his right. Tane looked up as he said* Again, why should I not collar you?

: says to :Tangaroa's Favored Son::.... Her brows furrowed at your question. You didn't know what a city was? She shook her head and muttered, "this isn't happening." Then she looked at you, hearing your pronouncement. Of course you were right, and her worried expression showed just that. Still, there might be a way. She saw the girl bringing you a drink, noted the nearly bare breasts and the short skirt. Priest-Kings, how could she avoid that, if she could. She followed as you announced and sat, not beside you, that would be presumptious, but close enough to talk. She was ravenous and wanted to eat. She said, softly, "May I have something? I'm starved, please" She waited, then said, "Because I am a Slaver. I can train slaves for you"

: says to KataraSlaver of Tarnburg:.... A slaver?*No one but their owners taught their slaves what they wanted here. This entire concept was foreign. The culture wasn't anywhere close to yours, aside from the fact that they were Goreans. He reached up and scratched his head a little bit. He could just throw her in the volcano and call it that. Though again.. not sure what the gods would think if he just offed her... even as a sacrifice... aka cover up murder. He went about his meal. And yes, he took his time about it. It was like he savored every bite. He finally said*I'm afraid that's not enough.*It really wasn't. Katara was about to become a slave. He did wonder who would want her. But for now, he just went back to eating, as if the decision he just made was just a matter of course. He finished his water and lifted the cup up for more. As the slave poured more water, he said* Might as well eat up while you can.*mmhmmm It was about to be a long next few days. : says to :Tangaroa's Favored Son::.... She was really, really far from home. On the mainland, on the islands, her caste was known, even feared by some. it was a necessary cog in the machine that was Gorean society, and this man had never heard of it? It couldn't be an act, not the way he looked at her as though the very concept of a Slaver was unknown to him. She swallowed at the tattooed man's announcement and looked around. Sardar, but some looked on her with fear, with fright, and some with revulsion. This was so not good. At last she said, "I don't know . . I just don't know what . . skills I can offer you other than that, Sir" She swallowed as the man waited to reply and she dug in, hurried grabbing some suls, eating them, the taste savory. She sniffed a little. Sardar, but this was good! It was so good. She reached for more, then the fish. There were no utensils. She was careful now, lifting it to eat, push the bones to the side and collecting them in her hand. Thens he paused, "While I . . can?" Her heart gave, she turned ashen, just looking at the man.

He would watch her like a hawk, and collaring her would bring him a lot of Mana, honor, to own her. She is the first one of her kind that they have seen. You will sleep in my house until such time as I deem fit*This was essentially a way of offering hospitality within the demand. He watched you as he finished eating. *Tell me Ghost Woman. what is a city?* Yes, he wanted to know what a city was. He'd never heard of them, so he figured he would test her veracity. As he asked, he sent his slaves away. They didn't need to hear this shit. And why should we fear them?* Great question. After all the men were all warriors, but there were only so many of them. This island held two villages. there were almost a dozen islands that were occupied, and most villages had maybe a hundred people. There were ot many warriors on the lslands.*

No doubt this was to keep watch over her, to see what she might do She started to explain, "A city, Sir, is formed at an advantageous spot. Whether for defense, or trade, or to tap some resource. Large number sof people, many hundreds and thousands settle there, all sharing a common home stone." She paused, "Fear them? No, not unless there is war. Then the Warriors might come, but this place is far off. I doubt that you are at much risk, Sir." She took some more of the urchin and said, "That is good"
