: says to Everyone:.... *He was in his home, sitting in a room open to the sea air. Looking out the doorway, he was in deep thought. He had weighed what the priest had said. He weighed it against the needs of the tribe. Tane had a couple avenues here with this, and it was those he was mulling over. He adjusted his feather cape. The air was cool today, and well, he wanted to remain warm. He was also weighing the consequences of having the woman around period. Eventually her people would come, and he wondered how they would react to one of their own among the people of Avai'ki, specifically, the Ngai Mauirangitira. He wondered about their skill in battle. Almost was fantasizing about it. He secretly wanted to find out. It was something he would never admit. Not until the time where it came to find out. Then all bets were off. He somehow knew too, that it would be that way. The people of the islands are essentially the same, and they fought often. What would it be like when someone completely alien showed up? He could only anticipate the Mana gained from that*

: says to :Tangaroa's Favored Son::.... She felt a little self-conscious wearing the clothing thr women on this island wore. The kiltish-skirt felt a tiny bit short for her preferences and brocaded top made her feel a little undressed. Only a pair of thin cord adorned her shoulders and that left the rest bare. She wondered about some sort of shawl or covering, but steeled herself with the knowledge that she was free and, though it was a little bothersome,s he was largely left alone. This helped her mourn the losses she had and start to think of how to make things work for her here with these people.

She entered the central chamber of your home, the sea rippling in the horizon, the beachs brilliant in their white sand. She spoke softly, not wishing to disturb you, "Tal, Sir. Thank you for your hopitality"

: says to Everyone:.... *He was wrenched from his reverie by your presence. He turned slowly to look at her.* Don't thank me. I have yet to decide what to do with you. I could end up throwing you in the volcano if the ancestors wish it.* He already knew that they had said he was free to do as he would. So he wouldn't toss her into the cauldera of a volcano. Nah, she was worth more than that. He looked out to sea*There will be more. *This was said as a blatent statement, not a question. He was expecting not only they show, but the damage it would do to his people. But at least they would gain mana. Tane reached for a cup of water, taking a slow sip. He then said* You are an enigma to me..puzzling.

: says to :Tangaroa's Favored Son::.... She screwed up her face at your reply. She knew she was safe here at your sufferance, but wasn’t too pleased to be reminded of it so brusquely. She swallowed, remembering her past training slaves in the House. It was always best to not lose one’s temper in such a situation. That never led to anything positive. She paused, gazing out to sea as you had. “I think that they might. I came here quite by accident, but others are ex . . . “ she was puzzled. “I’m sorry. I don’t mean to be a puzzle. I’m just Katara, a Slaver from Tarnburg and I hope to be of some service here” She meant it, as well. When, or if, anyone from the mainland arrived here, the sheer odds that it might be someone she knew, even more someone from Tarnburg, were astronomical. It would be best for her to be under the protection of yourself and your folk; this she was sure. She paused, “I hope you don’t mind. I asked some of the slaves to bring me clothing suitable for a woman of my station. My robes were far too ragged.” She wore the long skirt and top of your people, her upper top open just above the cleft of her bosom.

: says to Everyone:.... *He looked to you, and of course noted how you were dressed. Yes, it did befit your station for the moment. He thought a moment* What is a slaver? Remember, he hadn't heard of these things. It was yet another word he had no equivalent for. Tane did smile though. The first time you probably saw. He was thinking of another alternative. For now though, he simply watched you. Finally saying* it suits you.* it certainly did. Though you didn't know it, he was appraising you. His face gave no hint at this, nor did his body motions... he seemed to be perfectly content with this* Aside from what you know, how can you be of use, Katara of Tarnburg*He didn't know what a tarn was by the way. They didn't exactly have any way to fly. They could do other things though. Many of his people were ardent surfers. There were even competitions. Tane actually participated in these, often. It was fun, and frankly was a good way of bringing the people together. That alone was obviously important. Great, now TAne wanted to surf. But that was soon pushed back to the recesses of his mind. Tane chuckled softly. What he was doing was really stalling while he thought*

: says to :Tangaroa's Favored Son::.... It was strange. Even when she had met those of the Wagons or Torvaldsland, they knew of the castes, even though they didn’t follow them. You, and your people, knew nothing of them. Her brow furrowed. It was as though a pillar of society was knocked clean away. If that was the case, how would this society survive? She started to explain, “A Slaver deals in slaves. Some train slaves, preparing them for sale; others breed them, but there are plenty available for capture, of course.” She paled a moment noticing that you were looking at her with some interest now, as though what she was saying was important. She mustn’t spill caste secrets, such as they were. She paused, “As I explained earlier, I spent several years training slaves in my father’s House. I was on my first trip in trading in them when the storm arose.” She took a deep breath as she considered your question. “I can do that here. Teach them in the ways of the main land. If that doesn’t work, let me learn from one of the women of the village. I will do what I must, of course.” She smiled, all hopeful-like.

: says to Sonia`o`:.... Tane just chuckled* We have no need for a... slaver here. Each man owns his slaves. They obey, or they find a gruesome end.*Well it wasn't quite so simple as that. But plenty of slaves were found to be in the ocean now because of disobedience on a little grander scale than he is getting on about. Not that it mattered right now. right now he wanted to see a few things... why? Because he could. but it got better. He was about to speak, but he let her finish her thought before he stepped a little closer. Taking a long, slow sip from his bowl, he finally said*I think you will be enslaved for now.*for now meant pretty much forever. Their slaves got tattooed into their left thigh a band that reaches around it, as a mark of their slavery. It was ornate, much prettier than a brand. Of course, the men of the island had no other way to mark their slaves. They didnt have iron, so they couldn't make brands the way the rest of Gor did. They were truly a stone age people*

: says to Everyone:.... She frowned slightly, a pout forming. Still, it wasn’t unexpected. She nodded, replying, “That’s not far from what is done in many places on the mainland. She paused for a moment, about to say something when you moved to her. You were fast. Your size seemed to say you might lumber, but there you were. Her blue eyes widened as you announced this, “But . . but . . I can help in . . other . . w-ways.” Fretting, she looked side to side, as if seeking a route to run.

: says to KataraSlaver of Tarnburg:.... *You could run, and even hide. But the question was, did you want to be constantly on the run, with nowhere to go? Usually the answer was no. Tane then called for a slave girl to bring him a collar. The collars here, like everything else were adapted from materials they had plenty of. In this case, it was temwood. It had been made into small 1/4 inch wide slats, and then woven together to form an intricate band, and on the collar were the markings of who owned the slave. It was a few moments, but the girl finally came back with one of the bands and handed it to him. He waved her off, and he said* You can kneel now.* Those words probably froze your blood, but he was all right with that. He would see if she had the makings of a slave himself. He of course waited for you to do as you were told, or try to escape this by trying to reason... or worse for you, try to run. Either way, he was still prepared to put the collar around your throat.*

: says to :Tangaroa's Favored Son::.... She was frozen in her spot, a tear running down her cheek. She expected this, the first night she was here. That was when such things typically happened, in her experience and in her knowledge of her caste. But it had been a few days and she had been treated as Free, though avoided, due to her origins. When you commanded her to kneel, she said, briefly, plaintively, “Please, no.” Her breath coming in short draws, her chest heaving. What could she do? If she didn’t kneel, she knew she would not live to see the morning, or would end up in a volcano or something. If she knelt . . . . You did say, ‘For now’ Perhaps she might be able to earn her freedom. She swallowed and slowly knelt before You, her blonde head lowered, held in place by two long pins of metal.

says to KataraSlaver of Tarnburg: *He didn't strip you, but did say the following...*Move those things* he pointed to the shiny metal objects. You didn't need those now, did you? He hefted the collar in hand. The reason he said to move the hair pins was because he didn't know what it was. There were hair combs, but no hair pins. He didn't want to move them for fear that they were attached to your head in some way.*Place them on the floor* They could also explode. Remember he has literally never seen metal until now. So, he waited. Any way, after hearing the please, no, your fate was sealed. Slaves beg. He was almost obligated at this point. Well, not obligated, but if he didn't do it now, his mana would suffer, and he would not suffer that, as it could bring about a challenge to his authority.*

One errant lock crossed her shoulder to rest of the fabric of the pari she wore. Her tongue to the roof of her mouth, she set the pins on the floor. They were at least two and a half inches long. She was proud of them, but they weren’t poisoned. She kept her head down, waiting, her heart pounding.

Assuming that you did it, he then bent the collar until, he could tie it together in the back with an intricate knot. He then stepped back and said* Kajira, rise to your feet. Undress.*He didn't command to display because he didnt know what it was...Otherwise, he might. Tane was still wondering what the Ancestors would do, but he was far less worried. He adjusted his feather cape and waited for you to obey his command. He was aware that it may be, judging from your reaction, a humiliating thing. But he was all right with this. He leaned against a wall as he waited.*

: says to :Tangaroa's Favored Son::.... The walk behind her made her fear tighten. You moved silently for a big man, your footfalls like a hunting larl’s. She was confused at your command, but did so, lifting a finger to touch the temwood of the collar before lifting it to set her finger to her flesh. She was terrified of course, trying to convince herself that this was only temporary. Swallowing as the knot was tied, she heard you call her ‘kajira’. Closing her eyes, she steeled herself, rising to undress, her finger to the ties of her top, letting the fabric fall. She was full-breasts, her breasts round, inviting. A trail of tears down her cheeks, she slide from the long skirt and stood there, naked, her legs together, before you, her rear facing you.

An actual warrior who works in teams to get the job done. Such men were sometimes called Toa... a word from the distant past. They still used it, regardless*Turn around* his voice was calm as a breeze. He wanted to see whether or not he was a good judge of body still. He was thinking of waking the tattoist, but it could wait. Tane then sipped his water one last time before it was empty. He placed the bowl on the table, and once again, the man seemed to be patiently waiting. He still leaned against the wall, watching as if he were expecting something, which he was.*

You didn’t yell, or bark it, but it rolled, naturally, smooth, like silk. She diaphragm rose as she did so, casting her eyes to the ground. She was quite terrified, actually, but managed to remain silent.

He then said to you* you will learn to be a slave with my slave Hinemoa.*Hinemoa was the slave that had been his the longest.. it made sense for her to start the indoctrination of being a slave. Tane smiled and said one last thing that was a little dickish really...*Welcome to the Ngai Mauirangitira, Katara.* Okay, maybe that wasn't necessary, but it was the truth. She would definitely be learning the ways of the tribe, his people, very soon. And he would get the information he needs from her as well. She was not off the hook for that*

It would be a little while before it would register to her that the custom here was also to rename slaves, as one wished. She nodded, and said, softly, “Should I . . should I call Hinemoa ‘mistress’, Master?” She felt so humbled now, so shamed. To call a woman, ;Mistress. She nodded, gulping as you explained that she was welcomed to the tribe. “Thank you, Master.” She sounded wooden now, but she meant that she was thankful indeed.

The culture was so foreign that he never even had it in his mind to call a slave Mistress. But now you gave him the idea. Tane grinned a little bit, and he said* I think you'll make a good slave once you get the idea.* yes, he meant of course, that once you got with the program. He would use you as an assistant in canoe building. A job that required a lot of skill, and one he was very good at. Several of his canoes were of the war variety. Single hulled, with massive prow ornaments. They were something to be seen, and he loved making them. It made him feel closer to Tangaroa, the sea god, or so he thought.
