Sunday, June 17th, 2 A.M. Haru blinked and gazed upwards before getting up off the ground. How had he gotten here exactly? Why was the ground hard? Why was there so much mist? Haru's head was swimming. The fog gave him a headache. He needed to get out of here, but how? For that matter, how had he gotten here? He had remembered falling asleep in the lobby of his dorm where there was a TV, but after that nothing. Haru began wandering through the fog. "Is anyone here?" Haru called out, or at least tried to his, voice not really reaching any high decibels though he heard his voice echo. "I guess not . . ." There was little more he could do besides trudge on through the fog that obfuscated almost everything from view. ~~~~ 2:30 A.M. It took a little while of walking but eventually Haru reached a thinner space of fog . . . and began hearing foot steps behind him. Haru spun around to see and immediately fell back on his butt upon seeing what was there. It looked like him, but with some blackness emanating from it. It's eyes, like brimstones glowed, a bright burning yellow. "Uh . . ." The figure began to speak, answering Haru's unspoken question. "I am a shadow the true self." Shadow? The figure grinned. "It must be painful, right? That your parents don't care about you?" It asked, it's voicing eerily mimicking Haru's, though with a slightly corrupted sound to it. Haru was too shocked to speak. "Do I have to spell it out for you? They never have time for you, they just dump you off at some boarding school. The only time they give a damn is when you show your latest report card." "Th-that's true!" "Like I said, I'm you're true self!" "That's not true, you're not me!" "Admit it Haru, everyone sees you as worthless, even you!" "Shut up! You're not me!" The apparition began to laugh and almost on queue changed into a massive Avian mech supporting two massive turreted gatling guns, each with 5 barrels. Hunched over, almost on all fours in one hand it held what looked like a laptop. It trudged forwards and the gatling guns began spinning, preparing to fire. Haru got up and ran. Boosters activated on the robots feet and it chased after Haru, bullets falling just short of Haru's feet. Haru screamed and kept running. What in the hell was going on? Haru tripped and the mech's free hand began rapidly typing on the laptop computer, suddenly red dots appeared all over Haru's body as if laser sights. The Mech's chest open to reveal a stock of missiles. Haru was paralyzed with fear, only a third party could save him now. |

Kanoa was in the shadow world, trying to figure out her persona. Unlike her brother, she couldn't summon the succubus with a magical gun. That meant she had to be in the fog. Xero had told her about some magical glasses that removed the fog from sight, but Kanoa dismissed that as something silly Xero had made up. Kanoa summoned the magical card with a flick of the wrist and watched it hover over her open palm. The card began to smoulder and eventually caught fire. Black fire. It amazed her. Isabella formed from the smoky remains of the card and looked at her mistress. "What? I was busy. Your mind is full of these most wonderful places. And so many dreams of your dear Bear. Kanoa, I simply had no idea." Isabella said mockingly. * * * Eventually, Kanoa had lost her self in exploration with Isabella at her side. The two had run afoul a few weak shadows, but nothing Isabella couldn't end with a stab of her dagger. Something big was around though. Kanoa thought she had heard some kind of call. Then the sounds of a conversation. Then gunfire, and lots of it. That drew Kanoa's attention. She went running to the sound and came across a young man downed with a robot towering over the man. Isabella charged in front of the robot. Neither persona nor mistress cared about the situation, they wasn't about to allow the young man to be gunned down. Isabella held out an open palm to the robot, a flicker of dark energy began to form in the center of her palm. With her other hand, she spun her dagger into a reverse grip. "Let's dance, you ugly hunk of scrap." Isabella taunted before the flicker turned into massive ball of magical energy and launched it at the robot. |

Haru braced himself for death, shutting his eyes tight, until he heard a shout, something hitting the metallic shell of the shadow, and heard it turn to face the new arrival. Haru opened his eyes to watch what was happening. He couldn't help but think about what that robot had said before turning into a robot. Was that really how he felt? Meanwhile the shadow had turned it's attention to Isabella and Kanoa. That blast had done a bit of damage to it. It opened fire on the duo as Haru pulled himself off his ass, staring at what was going on. He didn't dare ask what was going on, lest he return the machine's attention to him or distract his savior from the fight at hand. Do I really feel that way about my parents though? Okay, so he did feel greatly unappreciated. No one would care about his hobbies, they'd just call him nerdy and mock him. Well, he was definitely acknowledging how he felt about himself and the people around him. Maybe that would help him . . . in fact the shadow had started this attack after he denied it being him. Meanwhile, the shadow had started locking onto Isabella and was preparing to launch missiles at her as it had originally been planning to do to Haru. Haru had to do something, but what could he do. Well, the girl had distracted the robot and that made ut change targets maybe he could . . . He gulped and attempted to work up the courage to do what he was about to do. "Hey! Ass-butt!" Haru shouted, jumping up and down while waving at the shadow. It worked as plan, the shadow returned its attention to Haru, who proceeded to start running from the fire the shadow unleashed on him. Hopefully the girl would be able to get in some more good shots at the enemy. |

Isabella noticed the stupid junk pile wasn't quick on it's robot feet. Kanoa rolled her eyes. It couldn't multitask worth a damn. Isabella took to the air, her wings flapping. Kanoa was humming a song to herself as the young man, more a boy really, dodged the bullets. "Sweetie, you can run from your problems as much as you think is safe, but these monsters will hunt you down." Kanoa yelled over the racket. "Whatever it said to you is what you believe. They tend make issues you have seem much bigger then they really are." The robot stopped firing at the young man and turned to Kanoa. She smiled sweetly at the robot then flipped it off. Isabella took the time to strike. Dropping from the air, she drove her shadow infused dagger though the thing's head. The succubus disengaged, while peppering the robot with shadow blasts. The robots guns started to spin up again, and Kanoa danced out of the way of the bullets. Isabella was analyzing the creature with every attack and so was Kanoa. The pair knew they needed to stop the missile barrage from happening. Drawing its attention from target to target was working well, but it was also dangerous. A stay bullet would cost them dearly. "Isabella!" Kanoa called, "Take the barrels off of the guns!" Isabella attacked again, this time cleaving with her dagger. One of the two miniguns was out of commission. Isabella took to the sky again, a hail of bullets following the persona. "Kid, listen, whatever you're feeling isn't wrong to feel. Calming down and accepting what your other half is telling you will end this fight faster than I can." Kanoa said, she prayed she was getting through to him. So he was right, it seemed. The girl seemed to know what was going on which was a plus. He just needed to accept what that "Shadow" had said about him. "I sort of figured that out, already, it's just . . . well . . ." Haru panted out while trying to run from the bullets. How did people in movies do this anyways? Haru desperately struggled to stay ahead of the bullets, even as the scantily clad winged figure with the girl disabled one of of the guns on the shadow. Thankfully, this returned its attention to Isabella and Kanoa. This gave Haru a chance to stop and catch his breath. Before it opened fire on the duo once more, Haru tried to command, though it still lacked much (if not all) conviction, "Stop!". It did manage to get the shadow's attention though. "Y-you're right! I do feel that way, I just . . . I just want to feel appreciated. My parents never have time for me and only care when I have good grades, they don't care about my hobbies or anything . . . and I feel like no one else would either. S-so, you were right! Just stop!" Haru said, as it went on, he felt more courage and what he was saying and it felt like a great weight left him. The shadow returned to its humanoid form briefly before a flash of light turned it into a form not unlike had it been previously, though more graceful and not as constrained looking. It spoke. "I am thou, thou art I. From the sea of thy soul I come. I am Djehuti, arbiter of the gods and god of science and writing." It spoked before turning into a card which floated over to then into Haru. Haru couldn't understand less of what had just happened if he tried to. "Um, ma'am, what just happened?" Haru asked, turning to Kanoa, who apparently knew much more about any of this. "What is this place, anyways?" As much as he wanted answers, Haru now felt exhausted and made himself sit down. He had a lot of questions about all of this now. |

Isabella smirked at Kanoa. "Ma'am, huh?" Isabella said. Kanoa rolled her eyes at her relentless persona. "No need to be so formal, my name is Kanoa." Kanoa siad, the pointed at Isabella. "That's my Perosna. Okay. So to break it down, we're in a world contained in tvs. You're a persona user. Personas are guardian spirits and reflections of your soul. Personas are borne of shadows. Shadows are like you, but they are all your repressed feelings. And they make it their jobs to not repress whatever your emotional hang ups are." Kanoa dusted her clothing off before going on. "Your shadow self became too powerful and brought you here. It may or may not choose to speak in your head from time to time." Kanoa said. "Welcome to the world of monsters. Shadows can form in the fog in the real world, as a warning. Not your shadow of course. Your shadow is that huge robot. Which is actually pretty cool. All the personas I've seen are based on myths and legends." Isabella began to fade into black smoke, but not before blowing a kiss at the young man. The smoke reformed into Kanoa's hermit card. The card floating back to Kanoa's out stretched hand. Kanoa grabbed the card from the air and flicked her wrist. The card had vanished. "I think that about covers all your current questions. Any thing else?" Kanoa asked. She was determined to help the young man, seemed like he was alone or left to his own devices quite often judging by what he had admitted to the massive robot. |

"Oh! Uh, I'm sorry, ma'- I mean Kanoa. My name's Haru." Haru replied before Kanoa went on explaining what had just happened, where he was and what was going on. None of it seemed to be possible, but Haru was willing to work with it. He sort of got the gist of the explanation though, the entire business sounded rather dangerous though. "So shadows can come to our world? Isn't that kind of dangerous . . . ?" Haru asked. What if someone without a persona got attacked and got hurt, or worse killed. That didn't really seem to sit right with him. If he had a persona that could do things like Kanoa's could, maybe he could help people . . . He didn't entirely understand the explanation, but what he did understand was that what had tried to attack him was called a shadow, there were more, and he had a persona now, which meant he could fight them. "So these things, shadows, do they attack people normally?" Haru inquired. Slowly, a more pertinent and pressing question entered Haru's mind. "Uh, Kanoa, you wouldn't happen to know the way out of here, would you?" Haru also asked. He wasn't sure why that hadn't occurred to him sooner, it was a bit important that he managed to get out of this strange, fog filled world. It wasn't exactly the most pressing matter since Haru didn't really have school, it being a Sunday, but it would be nice to not be trapped inside this world in the TV. Haru got up off of the ground. His entire body felt heavy and he truly felt exhausted from being in this fog and having just awoken his persona. It didn't help that he was 2:30 A.M. and he hadn't gotten much sleep before being awoken by falling into the TV. He stretched and yawned, hoping that Kanoa hadn't stumbled in by accident and didn't know a way out either. That would make this entire business all the more unpleasant. "Oh, uh, thanks for rescuing me. I really would've been in trouble without your help. Is there anything I can do to thank you, or anything?" |

Kanoa tapped her bottom lip with her index finger. Haru didn't seem to miss a beat. He did bring up an interesting point though. "It's very dangerous. Even the weakest shadow is deadly." Kanoa said with a somber tone. "To get out, I normally just wonder until I find a tv set. This world is fluid and ever changing, at least that's who my friends tell me. First time I was here, my shadow had built a prison out of a trashy s&m novel." "When I get home, I'm going to check into reports on Shadow attacks. The police data base should have some thing on it, even if they are totally in the dark on it." Kanoa said. "Supposedly there are people out there that get effect by something. The people just stop caring about living. Apathy syndrome or something. Doctors are totally lost on it, but they were smart enough to connect to the fog." Kanoa looked at Haru again, this time taking him fully in. He was cute, but a little young for her. Not that I wouldn't mind taking his V Card. Isabella interjected to Kanoa's thinking. "I had to be saved when I fought my shadow as well, just paying it forward." Kanoa said. "Besides, I wasn't going to let someone as cute as you get run though with bullets." Kanoa winked playfully at Haru. "Now let's see if we can find a way out of here!" Kanoa said. Kanoa grabbed Haru by his wrist and led him back the way she came. She was sure she had seen an exit on her way to saving Haru. |

Wait, if shadows worked based on what their users didn't want to accept then . . . Trashy S&M novel? Haru tried not to think about the implications. Maybe that last question hadn't been such a good idea. Especially considering what her persona looked like. Wait, she also had access to police data?! Haru wondered who exactly he was getting involved with now. Regardless, she had saved his life and he was grateful for that . . . it couldn't hurt him to make a friend, either. Upon being told he was cute Haru turned a little red and couldn't exactly object to Kanoa pulling him off to the exit she thought she had seen. "Er, I don't really talk about this much, but I'm really good with computers, so if you need anything, I'd be happy to help." Haru commented, trying to ignore the brief bit of flirting that had just occurred. "And I don't really have many friends or anything, you don't think we could hang out or anything, do you? I mean, now that we're both involved in all this stuff now, anyways. I mean, maybe we could help people." Kanoa seemed nice, maybe a bit scary and a tad intimidating but nice nonetheless. Haru definitely wouldn't mind having a friend or two. Doing nothing but sitting around programming on weekends was no fun and he didn't exactly have any space to build models. It doesn't hurt that she's beautiful, does it? Djehuti interjected into Haru's thoughts, a calm, soothing and undeniably wise sounding voice. Wh-wha? I wasn't thinking of that at all! Was he? I am thou, thou art I. You have already seen the danger of denying your true feelings. Even if you dislike what you feel, you must accept you feel it. Kanoa didn't look much older than him, maybe a year or two tops, but she still looked more like a woman than a girl. She was undeniably very pretty besides. Haru turned a brighter shade of red and tried to ignore thinking about any of that business. Djehuti seemed right though, he couldn't expect to interact with Kanoa and completely deny his attraction. |

Isabella was in a frenzy. She was demanding that Kanoa take him here and now. Kanoa promptly shut her down. Absolutely not. Kanoa said in her head with finality. It'll be stress relief. You've been dealing with the lovebirds! He won't even last that long! It'll be fun! Kanoa was ignoring her persona's begging and pleading. Though, Haru had brought something interesting up. His was supposedly skilled with computers. That was good. It was a common interest between them. "Actually," Kanoa started while they were still searching for an exit, "I need to build up a new set up. Since I moved here I've been using a laptop, but it isn't fast enough for me. So I'll happily accept help with that. If you're willingly to help that is." "Of course, that's not going to be possible until I get off my brother's couch." Kanoa said. "But I'm always happy to hang out. I might even give you back door access. ...to the police database that is." Finally, the pair came across their exit. A tiny tv. "Just push your self though the screen. It's a little tight, but it'll expand to fit you." Kanoa explained with her teasing tone. "I'll be right behind you." |
