Nail stood by a hospital bed in which laid the still unconscious Doppo Orochi. It saddened Nail to see such a mighty warrior in such a vulnerable state. Despite this, Nail believed that he could help his friend. He turned to the others and explained his idea. “I’ve heard stories about Namekians who went too deeply into a meditative state and their conscious mind became lost within their subconscious.” Nail explained with a serious expression. “To help them, we had to use our telepathic abilities to go into their subconscious, and bring their mind back over to the conscious side.” Nail then looked back at Doppo. “I think that’s what has happened to Doppo. He’s become lost within himself while sleeping on the way back to Earth from Arlia.” Nail then used his telekinesis to pull a chair over to him, which he then sat in. “I’m going into Doppo’s mind to help him. It’s the only way.” Gaia then spoke up. “You don’t sound too thrilled about being able to help Nail, why is that?” He asked, and Nail looked at him. “Because if I go wrong while I’m in there, I could mentally cripple Doppo’.” He answered. Gaia looked taken aback, but it was Kaoru who spoke next. “But you’ve done this before right?” He said, clearly concerned. Nail shook his head. “This technique hasn’t been used on Namek since before I was hatched.” He said, also worried about what he was about to do. Nail looked back to Doppo. Everyone in the room could guess what Nail would say next, and they were right. “But I can’t just sit here and do nothing. I have to at least try.” He said, and the Namekian closed his eyes, concentrating on finding Doppo’s mind. Nail landed with a thump in a dimension that didn’t seem at all like Earth, or any other planet Nail knew. He quickly discovered that he couldn’t fly, and upon trying to use energy waves, discovered that they weren’t working either. “What’s going on? Something here is hampering my powers.” He said aloud. A familiar voice then spoke up. “That’s because the synaptic energy in here is in chaos Nail.” It said, causing the Namekian to whirl around in surprise. “Doppo!” He exclaimed when he discovered who had spoken to him. A large smile then appeared on his face. “Good, if you’re here I can restore your consciousness now and you’ll be as strong as ever.” Doppo however shook his head. “Sorry Nail, but I am but one part of Doppo Orochi’s currently shattered mind.” He explained. “In order to restore me fully, you need to find and bring together all of the fragments. Only then can I awaken.” Doppo then looked up at the strangely warping sky. “I’ve been trying to do this myself for months, but I’ve had very limited success. But with you here, we can do it, and I can awaken!” Nail nodded. “So, seeing as this is your mind, where should we begin?” Nail asked, glad that Doppo was trying to help in any way he could. He was therefore disappointed to see Doppo shake his head. “I have no idea.” He said sadly. “My mind is in so much chaos right now it’s hard for me to think, and I currently can’t detect energy levels either.” The pair were then interrupted by a shrieking sound, and before they knew what was happening, black jellyfish looking creatures appeared out of nowhere to surround them. They shot small bolts of electricity that they used to shock both Doppo and Nail. To Nail’s surprise, Doppo backed off, and cowered a little. “Doppo, what’s wrong, what are these things?” He asked as he used his arms to defend himself as best he could. “These things are nightmare synapses.” Doppo said as he made a truly awful attempt to dodge an attack. “I can’t fight right now because my mind is splintered. Nail, you’ll have to fight these things off, but don’t destroy any of them.” Nail grunted in annoyance. “Why can’t I destroy them?” He demanded angrily. “Because synapses change form frequently. Destroying the wrong one could take away my ability to function for good.” “Terrific.” Nail muttered, and began to punch the creatures away from the powerless Doppo, and himself. He made sure not to hit too hard, he didn’t want to damage them. Instead he only hit them hard enough to knock them away. Some of these nightmare synapses got the message and fled, but others came back for more, using their annoying electrical blasts to attack Nail. These blasts were painful, but they weren’t actually causing much damage. Nail kept fighting, but he was getting worn down without his powers. Doppo was trying to help as best he could, but he could barely even make a fist, never mind throw a punch. “My memories of fighting are all but gone!” Doppo wailed as he was knocked down by a group of the synapses. Nail reacted instantly, but forgot that his powers were gone too. He jumped in the air to fly over and help, and felt silly when he crashed to the floor. The synaptic creatures jumped on this opportunity and smothered Nail’s body within a second. But this was only temporary. The creatures for some reason quickly gathered in the air, and Nail used this opportunity to run over to Doppo. After helping the warrior to his feet, Nail asked Doppo; “This is your mind, what do you think they’re doing?” Doppo staggered a little before rubbing his head and answering. “I have no idea. I’ve never been in this situation before. They didn’t have long to wait for an answer. The gathered creatures combined their small electrical charges into an enormous thunderbolt which they launched at the pair. Without their powers, Doppo and Nail found themselves unable to dodge this thunderbolt, and were hit hard. This attack didn’t last long, as the synaptic creatures stopped zapping the pair, and then scattered in the air like an exploding firework. After taking a few seconds to recover, Nail looked at where the creatures had been gathered. “They had us.” He said aloud. “Why would they give up when they could have destroyed us?” Doppo stood up before Nail did and spoke up. “It’s because of me.” He explained. “They can’t destroy me without destroying themselves, and this whole world. We’re in my mind remember? So everything here is linked to me.” That gave Nail an idea. “I think I can use my telepathic abilities to help us a bit.” He said, before walking over to Doppo and placing his hands on his head. “Outside I didn’t have much to work with, but in here you’re linked to everything. All I need to do is find that link and I can, in theory, use that to restore your mind.” Nail didn’t take long to prove his theory was correct. After a few minutes, the world around them began to change from a weird extra dimensional looking place into a lush green field from Earth. Nail of course still found this strange, but Doppo didn’t. “I can feel it, Nail, it worked!” He said, before levitating into the air. “Our powers are back. All we need to do now is get out of here.” Nail smiled and nodded, then began concentrating hard. “Hmm, that can’t be good.” He said after several minutes. “I can’t seem to find the way out.” Doppo sighed. “Why did I know that wasn’t going to work?” He said, and then came down from the air. “I guess we need to find the way out ourselves. “I don’t suppose you have any idea where the way out might be?” Nail asked, and was happy to see Doppo smile. “Let’s try in my conscious mind.” He said. “I think we’ll find some answers there. Nail then felt a complete fool. “Oh of course!” He said as he clapped his hands. “We can’t exit yet because your mind is still lost in your subconscious. We need to bring you back over to the conscious mind in order to find our way out, and you can awaken.” “And how do we do that?” Doppo asked, and Nail smiled. “Now that your mind is back in order, I have an idea of where to go.” He explained. “Come on, this way.” Nail then flew off towards the sun that had appeared in the sky. As they flew, Nail suddenly had a very powerful feeling that something was wrong. He was right. The two were shot out of the sky by an energy blast, and as they hit the ground, they heard a familiar laugh. “You didn’t think you could get rid of your worst nightmare that easily did you Doppo?” Said the same voice that had laughed. Nail and Doppo made the same lip curling expression of disgust as they realised what they were facing. “Yujiro.” They both said at the same time. They both glared at the red clad warrior who stood between them and the way out. Yujiro then pointed into the sun. “The way out is there, but you have to get by me in order to reach it. And in here, I win because Doppo’s nightmares can’t be quashed while he’s alive.” Doppo gathered his energy and shouted, “We’ll see about that monstrosity!” But rather than fly at Yujiro, he p-lopped to the ground with crossed legs and folded arms. Nail was confused, and the vision of Yujiro took advantage of this, attacking Nail with a vicious punch that sent the Namekian to the floor. “Doppo, some help here?” Nail called but he was disappointed with the answer. “I’m helping you the best way I know how. Hold him off for a minute or two.” Nail grunted at Doppo’s response. “Gee, thanks.” He said, and he launched himself at Yujiro, who wasn’t as powerful as Nail was expecting. Nail punched Yujiro hard in the face and sent him flying into the sky. “The real Yujiro wouldn’t have even felt that!” Nail said as he realised what was going on. This Yujiro was born out of Doppo’s nightmares, and his memory of the actual Yujiro. And was nowhere near the power of the actual monster. Doppo was attempting to nullify the danger by meditating. Nail only had to hold out until Doppo could complete his focus. With this in his mind, Nail flew at Yujiro, and slammed his fist hard into his stomach, doubling the demon over in pain. Nail then punched Yujiro in the middle of the back with his other hand, and sent him crashing to the ground. Nail then powered up his energy in his hands and yelled “Rapid Fire!” Then using his Renzoku Energy Dan to pummel his opponent, Nail’s confidence grew in this battle. Doppo’s eyes then opened and he said “Got him.” When the dust cleared, Yujiro wasn’t there. His body replaced by stone, which crumbled. Nail landed next to Doppo. “I get the feeling that was too easy.” Nail said as he landed. Doppo just smiled. “Let’s not complain. Come on, I’d hate to be late for my grand awakening.” Nail agreed and the two flew into the sun. Back in the hospital room, Doppo’s eyes finally opened. As the glow faded from Nail’s eyes, Gaia gave a shout. “Hey, he’s done it! Nail and Doppo are awake!” Kaoru rushed into the room and smiled broadly. “You’ve been in there for over three weeks Nail, we thought we’d lost you too.” Kaoru explained. “What happened in there?” Doppo and Nail looked at each other and laughed. “Nothing we couldn’t handle.” Nail said through his laughter, but then he became serious. “However I do think that Yujiro’s legacy is finally over. We’ve won.” Word count 1,970 Edited by Old Nail, Dec 7 2013, 08:59 AM.
