Paul saw the confidence that Chichi had displayed. Before she could say anything more, he closed the gap by stepping towards again. He delivered a kick that was meant as a distraction to her midsection. After he kicked at her midsction, he went for long and powerful jabs. They were full body punches meant to drive into the body. He knew she was able to handle it after she had taken some shots earlier.

"You really know how to show a girl a good time...don't you!" She said sarcastically as Paul tried to drive his heel into her midsection. Her hands caught his kick. To distance herself from him, she took a step backward to prepare herself for the punches that were soon to follow. He put his brute force into these punches which she blocked with her forearms. His fists felt like metal pipes knocking into her slender forearms. While his fists hurt her forearms, she kept her pain from showing upon her face. Her father always told her not to show her opponent any weaknesses. As he slugged away at her forearms, she waited for the right time to break into his attack. She noticed how the power behind his punches sometimes hindered his ability to defend. The pounding her forearms received were becoming too much. She had to act now. As he went for an uppercut, she used what was left of her bruised forearm to knock the his arm to the side. His other arm wound up, but that had given her a split second to get into his defenses.

She took a step forward so that she was close enough to hit him.

Paul watched as his uppercut was avoided by Chichi. His fists were doing their damage onto her forearms. He wasn't prepared for what happened next. After he had sent his uppercut, he was sure another one of his punches would be enough to knock her down. However, she went on the offensive which left him unprepared to block.

Once she stepped into his body, she sent a fury of punches into his midsection. The gasps of air that sounded from his chest were enough to let her know that she was causing him some pain. She went for eight punches into his midsection that caused the large man to keel over giving her another opening. Then, after her series of punches, she reached for his head and drove a knee into his chin.

He was short of breath from Chichi's blows to his abdomen which had him keel over to get some oxygen into his lungs. As he was keeled over, Chichi's knee slammed into his chin. It was a blow that would have knocked out most for sure. He had a chin made of steel though. Knowing he had to attack, he went for it. While she had a hold of him, he wrapped his arms around her waist and picked her up off the floor with his strength.

Her eyes widened when she was picked off the ground. Her knee, which had been driven into Paul's chin just seconds before, was pressed up against Paul's chest when she was picked off the floor. She expected he wanted to toss her. Having little time to react, she intertwined her fingers together and prepared to use hammer fist-like punches to free herself.

With his arms around Chichi's waist and him using his strength to pick her up, her legs were completely off the floor leaving her defenseless for the most part. He then prepared to toss her into the mat. She was still fighting off his power which made it harder than he expected. First, he had to get her to surrender before he slammed her hard into the mat.

She slammed her two fists into the top of Paul's head. The main problem was that his hair gave him extra cushion. Feeling her strength slipping because she was caught in a bear-like hug, she wrapped her slender arm around his head to place him in a headlock. It was her last ditch effort to free herself from his grasp.

Paul felt her slender arm go around his neck that tightened around his air way. He had to act fast before he lost air and his chance to do some damage. Before she got the best of him, he fell onto his back which meant he went for a slide walk slam into the mat.

Her back hit the mat. The wind was slightly knocked out of her, but the mat had stopped her from suffering any major damage. On impact, her arms loosened around Paul's neck. His arms released her at the same time which meant she was free to attack him once more. While he was recovering, she watched as he sat up to go after her on the ground. She wouldn't allow it. While laying down, she rose her legs upward and wrapped them around Paul's neck. Her upper back remained firm against the mat with her arms at her sides that gave her balance.

Chichi's legs wrapped around his neck when he sat up to go after her on the ground. The second she wrapped her legs around his neck, he grabbed at her legs to try to pry them off with his upper body strength. It was a no go. Slowly, he felt himself losing oxygen again. If he didn't act quickly, he would likely be put to sleep. It was then he would show off his remark strength.

"ARGPHMM" He grunted and lifted Chichi off the ground with him. Even with her legs tied around his neck, she was picked up and placed into a power bomb like position. He could easily toss her into the mat below onto her upper neck.

{Oh, this is not good! He better not do what I think he is doing!} She was lifted off the floor with Paul's strength. Being on his shoulders now and at his mercy, she had to react. He grabbed at her hips which meant he was ready to power bomb her into the mat. He probably wouldn't have done it, but she couldn't take the chance. If this was a real fight, the enemy would not let up. Without warning, her upper body dropped back. She used her legs as the main source of strength. In an instant, she performed a hurricana that flipped Paul forward and had her land directly on top of his chest with her knees on each side of his cheeks.

"Grah" Paul could barely talk as he was flipped forward from a hurricana maneuver and fell onto his back. Seeing Chichi sitting upon his chest, he grasped her gi and tossed her off.

She was tossed off Paul and rolled a couple of times before she stopped. Her panting was evident. However, she was not about to give up. Getting back onto her feet, was a bad mistake. The second she stood her arm was grabbed.

He reached for her arm and pulled her along for the ride. He flipped her over so that he placed her in an arm bar.

Again, her back hit the floor mat. She felt her arm get tugged in between Paul's legs. This didn't look good. With his full body behind the attack, her arm had no chance of powering out of his arm bar submission. She attempted to wiggle free with her legs.

Paul tugged her arm just enough so that she would feel some pain, but avoided using his full strength. He didn't want to break her arm. He wanted to hurt her enough so that she'd tap out. However, that was not going to happen with a woman like her.

She started to wince in pain from the pressure Paul placed on her arm with his whole body. It was inches from snapping. Eventually, a slight whimper of pain sounded from her. Nevertheless, she was never going to give up.

{This chick got some big ones. She ain't gonna give up is she? Ha, I should have known. She is the toughest CHICK in the Universe. I'll give her that.} Paul released her arm when he realized she was not about to tap even if he dislocated it. It could come off her body completely, and she probably still wouldn't. He liked that toughness. He wouldn't have tapped either.

Feeling the pressure off her arm, she pulled it towards her to ease the pain that lingered from the arm. She remained flat on her back. Her chest rose and fell from the heaving she received with the sparring session they just went through. A part of her avoided using ki attacks mainly because hand to hand was most important to her. It was also a matter or honor and respect that she had learned from her father. Laying on the floor, she saw Paul's hand reached down to her to help her onto her feet.

He reached to help her up onto her feet as a gesture of kindness and respect.

Reaching for his hand, he pulled her onto her feet.

"Thank you." She commented politely. However, remembering that they were supposed to have fun because that was the reason for the entire training session, she back heeled his knee which sent him tumbling to the ground. She then burst into laughter

Paul nodded when she thanked him.

"Oof!" Before he could say anything, he fell himself stumble forward into the mat when Chichi's heel hit the back of his knee. He had to admit that was unexpected and clever. When he heard her laugh, he chuckled himself.

"I told you I was number one." Paul said while sitting upon the floor.

She stopped laughing when she heard his number one slogan and pressed her hands on her hips as a response out of defiance.

Paul got into a judo, crouched position to rest himself. His sweat glistened from his forehead and on his muscles. There were droplets of sweat that ran down his scraggly beard. Once he was comfortable, he glanced up at Chichi who had her hands rested on her hips. She was worn out too, but less than himself which was strange. She had great fitness and skill. Keeping himself in a crouching position, he was relaxed and allowed the music from his radio to sooth his adrenaline.

Her head turned suddenly towards the glass entrance that led into the gym. Her senses had picked up on several disturbances coming from outside the gym. Exhaling profoundly, her black eyes didn't glance away from the entrance of the gym for not even a second. She clenched her fist because she was positive that something was outside.

"Is there something wrong?" Paul noticed how Chichi's muscles tensed and how she stared endlessly at the glass entrance. There was nobody there. He could not sense anyone outside like she could. From his crouching position, he rose to his full height. She didn't respond to his question. When she didn't answer, he stepped next to her to get her attention.

"Shhh!" She told Paul to quiet himself to concentrate on what was coming their way.

Paul couldn't help, but ask again what was wrong with her.

"What are you looking at? There is nothing there." He tried to shake her off of what was bothering her because there was no one in the area from what he could see.

Sensing the trouble coming closer, she looked over at Paul with an intense glare.

"There are people coming to the gym, and they feel like troublemakers." She pointed out. When it had come to pointing out delinquents and troublemakers, she was an expert. Since she had trained to the extreme in the gym, her senses were at their peak. In the silence, not even a ant could get by without her knowing it was there.

He wasn't sure how she knew there were people coming. Then, turning his attention to the glass window of the gym, he saw a group of six men approaching. From the looks of them, they wanted a piece of him. As they approached, he realized who they were. They had found his hideout and his training facility. It was not like he was hiding.

{So they've come to see why I am the toughest in the universe?} He cracked the knuckles of his hands and then his neck to get ready for some ass kicking.

"I'll handle this." He said to Chichi. He did not want her to get involved with his problem.

There they were. There were six thugs who had entered into the gym. She turned her attention to Paul when he told her he would handle it. She looked at him suspiciously, but kept quiet. Keeping her arms at her side, she then waited for what the delinquents wanted.

"Who are you people?" She demanded to know who the thugs were. Her clenched fist pulled up to her face that signified that she was prepared to fight back. The guns they had pointed at Paul and herself had not frightened her at all. What had concerned her was who they were after. With their faces covered with red helmets, she was not sure what to make of the situation. She had never seen an organized, thug group like the one that barged into the gym.

The leader thug kept his pistol pointed at Paul. His five comrades stood behind him to back him up.

"Nice, lady friend you got there Paul. I'm guessing you forgot to tell her how much money you owe us." He grinned freakishly because he remembered how much money he had loaned to the red, gi wearing bastard who forgot to pay him back. His loan payment was a month over due. He had given Paul more chances than anyone mainly because Paul was a suitable partner. The Phoenix had fighting skills that were useful in a money, grubbing business. Unfortunately, the blond ass kicker lacked in the brains department. The thug had loaned Paul several thousand zeni to use as money to smuggle drugs in, but that did not happen. There was neither no money nor the drugs the thug desperately needed to run his business. It was payback.

For a moment, she was relieved that it was not anyone after her. However, when the helmet thug pointed out Paul's debt, she glanced at him. He did not seem to be worried at all.

Paul looked at the gang members casually.

"I told you I ain't paying that money back. I used it to fix my bike. If you got a problem with that, then you're going to have to settle it like a man..with me." He was all cool like when responding. He took a step forward to show the seriousness in his response.

This entire ordeal was about a bike being fixed? She was oblivious to drug dealing and thug business so she took the bike excuse literally. What she had known, for a fact, was that the thugs were troublemakers. Their energy, though weak, were dark in nature. There was no chance this confrontation would go nicely.

The helmet clan leader laughed at Paul's joke. Just as soon as he chuckled a bit, he then snapped. His mood changed instantly. When he snapped, he stuck his gun forward and shouted loud enough so that his voice sounded like thunder within the gym.

"Don't fuck with me Paul! I will shoot your lady friend if you don't FUCKING give me my MONEY! You got that MAN!" The five men behind him kept their guns steady and prepared.

She flinched when the man yelled like he was a psychopathic barbarian. It was unexpected especially when he was laughing only moments before his outburst.

"Stop yelling your voice makes my head hurt."
She said with her usual sarcastic-like humor.

"What did you say to me? You better shut that girl up Paul or I am going to shoot her pretty face!" He jerked his gun forward in a threatening manner. He was ready to pull the trigger.

"Excuse me?" Her eyes narrowed at how rude the thug man was to her. It hadn't mattered who he was because nobody talked to her like that. Despite the gun being pointed right at her, she was calm and unconcerned for it. She was well capable of avoiding the bullet if he managed to shoot. The thug didn't know that though.

"I'll handle this." Paul whispered to Chichi. Paul, who did not want Chichi getting involved with his mess, stepped forward so he was closer to the thug than Chichi. He rose his hands up into the air as a sign of surrender and to keep the thugs talking. Keeping his arms in the air, he inched closer to the group.

{These men are so rude. I want to teach them a lesson. What is he doing with his arms up in the air? He should be punching them not trying to touch the ceiling.} She thought to herself. Watching Paul put his arms in the air, she had no concept as to why. She was not in the city often, therefore, she had little knowledge about how civilians acted in situations with guns. Her only recollection of dealing with guns was when Red Ribbon army soldiers invaded her garden. Those army soldiers regretted it when they met her father.

The thug man chuckled when Paul placed his arms in the air.

"So you do got some sense in you Paul. I thought I was going to have to make this gym your grave. Now..hand over the money!" He watched as Paul inched closer, and he snapped again because it was too close for his comfort.

"That's fucking close enough" His finger rested on the trigger of his gun.

Paul stopped and looked right into the leader's eyes. The standoff was about to commence.

She stood behind Paul with her fists at her sides. Her glare set on the five men before her. What did they have planned? With the guns aimed directly at Paul and herself, she imagined they were up to no good. What was Paul prepared to do? She was capable of attacking the group before the leader pulled the trigger, but Paul? He was an incredible fighter, yet she was uncertain of his true capabilities. The two of them sparred furiously before the gang arrived to ruin their night of training, but she did not read what Paul's true power was.

"What will it be asshole? Are you going to pay up or am I going to have to shoot holes in your ugly ass?" His finger was moments from clicking the trigger. He gave Paul a chance to respond. Waiting for a couple of seconds, what was about to happen next was unexpected and gruesome. It happened in a blink of eye leaving the rest of his comrades distraught.

Paul waited for the right moment to strike. When the gang leader demanded for his response, he took the opportunity to strike.

"BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" With a mighty roar of his brute strength, Paul drove his fist into the man's gut. The thug was an normal, ordinary man. This meant that the punch was a death blow. Using what he called his "Phoenix Smasher," his fist imploded the man's insides. A splatter of blood squirted from the man's mouth. After blood spat from the man's mouth, his major limbs blew apart from his body. It was from the force behind Paul's furious punch. The leader's gun went off when his arm landed nearby Chichi, but it was too late. The leader's reflex, who lay in pieces, was too slow. He was dead.

"Oh my!" She exclaimed. Her hand covered her mouth in disbelief. Seeing the leader break into pieces, shocked her because it was unexpected. The mess left behind was more than she seen. Unlike most fighters, she was unaccustomed to witnessing carnage. Her father may have beheaded treasure hunters, but he tried his best to avoid her seeing it. There was a time where she saw the horror of her father's work, yet his murders never left her speechless. If she had seen her father kill, it was accidental. What caused this murder to leave her speechless was the fact that she was involved. She was involved in the scene. Paul had no other choice, but seeing a man's body explode like the volcano at her village was a mind blowing experience.

{Ew..} She thought to herself.

The rest of the gang leader's comrades silently stared at the body parts. They were too traumatized by how their leader was killed to react in vengeance.

Paul clapped his hands together when he saw the thug leader's limbs drop to each corner of the gym. It was business as usual for him. If someone attacked him, he defended himself. Though he was not a killer, he was built to fight and unfortunately his opponent was not. The man had it coming. He looked up after his attack and caught sight of the five members who remained. They were too shocked to attack. He pumped his fist victoriously.

"Hmph" He grunted to the five. Being unconcerned, he walked away from them to a bench that was five steps from the scene. He wanted to cool off with a refreshment.

"Any of you want some more?" He asked when he reached for his drink. With his back turned, he neglected their ambition, therefore, had not expected to be attacked. The five were about to shoot Paul for revenge of what was left of their leader.

She shook the thoughts of carnage from her mind because the violence was over or so she assumed. It was a bad assumption. Catching sight of the five troublemakers about to shoot Paul, she reacted with force.

"Get out of here!" She shouted angrily. Her arm stuck forward to point the palm of her directly at the five losers left standing. When she pointed her palm at them, she used an invisible blast to knock them backwards. They had no idea what hit them Before they realized it, they were busied flying, breaking glass, and knocking out shortly after hitting the hallway floor. The five of them were launched through the gym's glass entrance.

Paul turned when he heard shattering of class. Shortly after turning, he saw the entire sequence of events unfold. The five men were knocked out cold by a vicious attack by Chichi. What was odd is that she was a distance away from the gang members. How was she able to attack them from a distance? Similar to his death fist, she had special attacks herself. Most martial arts had unique identities. Avoiding the subject for the sake of keeping it fun, he played it cool.

"I hope they fix that tomorrow." He placed his drink down and set his eyes on Chichi. She was a cool chick. She risked her neck to help him even though they were acquaintances.

Hearing Paul's comment, she turned to him. He was not worried about what he saw. Had he known more than she originally thought? She remained silent when he talked to her. The dismemberment of body parts left her speechless and puzzled on how to handle the conversation with Paul.

"I'm sorry about what you saw here. Everyone always wants a piece of the Toughest in the Universe." He saw her confused expression. Telling by how she kept quiet, she was not used to seeing blood shed. He never searched for trouble, but it found him. It came with the prestige and name. After apologizing, he turned his back to her to stuff his equipment in his bag. The training session was over. He felt guilty for what occurred. His best option was to leave before he caused more problems.

She observed Paul's behavor after he apologized. He assumed she was mad. It did not surprise her that he caused trouble because most did. She was used to being the disciplary figure. This one night was different though. For the first time since the mission with Gatz, she had fun. A smile formed on her lips. In most cases, she would frown about Paul's trouble making ways. His goofy attitude broke throught her hard exterior and negated all the bad.

Paul finished packing his training bag. Once zippered, he slung it over his shoulder and turned to the exit. The silence from Chichi was am indicatiom he better leave. He was determined to leave until he saw her smile. Was she smiling?

"Thank you for this training session. It was fun..maybe we can do it again. I won't be leaving any time soon since I am ordered to live here." She spoke softly and light halfheartedly. A smile remained on her face because Paul's goofy nature broke through her hard exterior. In most cases, his knack for attracting trouble would have been an issue, but she was always forced to act with discipline. It was hard sometimes. The last time she enjoyed herself was at the base with Gatz. Even during the the fortress mission, she broke down. For the first time in a long time, she felt no pressure to be proper.

Turning to face Chichi, he was caught off guard by her request. He ignored her remark about being ordered to stay in the apartment. As of currently, it was none of his business. His business consisted of honoring her request. It was an offer he could not refuse because she was a worthy opponent and a challenge. Respectfully, he stuck out his hand in a friendly manner.

"You got it." He waited for a handshake or a bow for closure on their deal.

She looked down at his hand because it conflicted with how she was raised. Normally, she would have bowed her head. Instead, she placed her hand in his and shook it.

"I hope you're up for it. Oh and next time bring some better music. I don't want to listen to that loud noise you call music." She teased, but she meant every word.

Paul chuckled at her response.

"You know I will be and that loud noise is called rock." He pulled his hand from hers and walked passed her to the shattered exit. A rush of excitement filled his chest because he had a training partner, and he did not know what to expect.

When Paul walked by her, she stood in place and rose her hand to look at it. Then she balled her hand into a fist that represented she was ready for any challenge.
