The ride back to Gatz’s Haven passed by uneventfully. Since the two had expended energy during both the fight and the run to Rebecca’s house, and since Rebecca had some heavy freakin’ bags, Will had elected to grab his motorcycle. Sure, they had to double up since he didn’t have a sidecar, but with so many bags to carry otherwise, who cared. As the first skyscrapers of Haven reared into view, Will took the chance to look back at his passenger and smirk. ”Welcome to my home, love. Bit intimidating, huh? Still, I gotta say- it’s as beautiful as the first time I came here.” Grinning, Scipio opened up the throttle a bit, weaving through traffic to get to his place that little bit faster. Finally arriving at the high-rise, Scipio threw the motorcycle keys to the attendant, saying, ”Heya Johnny. Keep it close to the front, will ya? I won’t be long.” “Y-Yes sir, Mr. Sword Saint sir!” Johnny stuttered, quickly pulling the motorcycle into pride of place up front. Rolling his eyes, Scipio greeted all of the people on the way in, not stopping to take a breath until the doors of the elevator had closed behind the pair. ”Phew. Remembering that many names is more terrifying than any battle, I swear…” Scipio turned to Rebecca. ”Ah, I suppose I offer you an explanation, love. See, when I got here, I was an absolute bum. Literally homeless, starving, with no sword or any way to make money. No way in hell was I gonna steal- rather bloody starve. So I got lucky, a man named Marcus found me and introduced me to the fight club here. I won enough battles that I eventually won it all, and since I probably made him rich as a king and got robbed blind myself, he pays for my food and housing. So here…we…are!” Scipio said, revealing the penthouse suite. Thankfully, cleaning services had apparently come through, so no longer was there the pizza stuck to the mirror, the boxers and panties lazily swinging from the ceiling fan, nor the bottle of rum perched precariously on the balcony railing. Though the rum may have just fallen over. Still, the place was spotless. ”Make yourself comfortable, love- grab some food, pour yourself a drink, whatever. I just need to grab a few things and we’ll be gone.” Heading into the bedroom, Scipio easily lifted up the massive canopy bed, gently pulling the duffel bag containing his armory. Reverently placing the duffel bag on top of the dresser and opening it, Scipio quickly began to don the double baldric that would hold seven swords, the belt sheath that would hold the final two, and the ankle, thigh, bicep, and forearm bands that would help hold onto Scipio’s seemingly endless supply of knives and daggers. Though he slotted in each and every knife, Will kept the swords in the duffle bag, thinking they would attract too much attention until they left the city. He did have a reputation to uphold… Muttering quietly to himself, Scipio began throwing essentials for the road into the duffel bag. ”Let’s see…Swords…check, change of clothes …check, fire starter… check, bottle of whiskey… check, double check, and protected, Blankets… check, Wallet and phone… check and check. Not sure if there’s anything else I need- never mind, how could I forget!” Chuckling to himself, Scipio dove into his closet, pulling out his luck white hoodie and shrugging it on. Feeling whole once more, and ready for an adventure, Scipio slung the duffel bag over his shoulder, heading back to Rebecca at the same time as the door to the penthouse opened, revealing Marcus. Marcus glanced at Rebecca, then to Scipio, then back to Rebecca, saying, ”Sorry, I came at a bad time, I see. I’ll be back in…four hou-“ Scipio cut Marcus off, laughing. ”No no no, nothing quite like that, Marcus. Marcus, this is my friend, Rebecca. Rebecca, this is Marcus, the man I told you about. He’s the one who got me into the arena.” Marcus bowed, the appearance of the intimidating 6’4” buzz cut, drill sergeant-looking marine at odds with the subservient pose. ”A pleasure to meet you, madame. Despite what this battle psycho might say, I made him into what he is today.” Scipio immediately shot back, ”Only because you thought I was a bum who would die spectacularly for the crowds. You even threatened to kill me if I didn’t comply!” ”Pfft, not that I needed to. You agreed before I could get half the threat out of my mouth, you goddamned bloodthirsty berserker.” Scipio looked offended, saying, ”Rebecca, you can’t believe anything this man says. He’s a con-man, a snake-oil salesman, and a stone cold liar to boot, one who’d sell you your own grandmother if he thought he could get away with it.” Scipio winked and smiled at Rebecca to let her in on the joke, that it was all play fighting. Marcus sighed with desire. ”If only, kid, if only. Still, I hope one day to be as black-hearted as you praise me to be. So, where you going out, champ?” Scipio grinned sheepishly and rubbed the back of his head. ”Actually, about that…I’m going on a bit of a journey, so make up some lie about how I got horribly injured doing something stupid again. I might be a long while.” Marcus sighed. ”I only wish it wasn’t such a believable lie, kid. You better come back with one hell of a story, if I’m covering your ass for this long. And enough riches for a king.” Scipio grinned at Rebecca as Marcus turned around, leaving the apartment. ”Don’t worry, mate- with any luck, I’ll come back with enough for a god!” Laughing, Scipio turned to Rebecca as the door closed and Marcus took the long elevator down to the bottom of the high rise. ”Alright love, I got everything I need from here. Anything you see that you want, feel free to take it. But I gotta ask you- if we’re gonna look for this Oahl Mehr, we gotta have a starting point. We can swing by the city library if we’re truly stuck up a creek, but do you remember anything about Oahl Mehr, anything at all? No matter how small or insignificant it might be, it may help us out in the long run. Especially if the portal’s left the planet, like I fear it has.” ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WC: 1,076 Words TWC: 1,076 Words Edited by William Scipio, Dec 24 2014, 05:23 AM.

It was a long way and the bags were heavy indeed. A good time to think about using the capsule her father gave to Rebecca. But the walk wouldn't be much of a training without the weight packed in a small pill. Rebecca kept her head up in the horizon, dreaming of the moment she could be able to go back home. She glanced at Scipio. It was hard to believe that someone could help her in such a difficult task, at least in this new world. Her eyes on him, almost as a naive lover, and then Scipio turned back saying "Welcome to my home, love." Even in the distance the place seemed incredibly big. Although Rebecca did not share the exact same idea of 'beautiful' with Scipio, the place was amazing. Her sight would go higher as they went inside the city. She had to follow Scipio closely, for there was traffic, and that was something Rebecca had not dealed with in her life. They arrived at a big building. Rebecca didn't even notice when Scipio gave the keys to some man. "It's so high!" she said to herself before entering the building with Scipio. Once inside, she wasn't able to even say a word as many people started greeting her host, also making it hard for Rebecca to keep up with him. Fortunately, they made it inside the elevator in time. Rebecca was wondering why would they get inside such a small room. She clung to Scipio as they started going up, giving her a bit of an answer. Scipio's talk about his past made it easier for Rebecca to calm down after the unexpected functionality of the small room. She slowly released him after getting used to the upward movement. The elevator stopped, and Rebecca jumped back at Scipio. The doors opened and he said "So here... we... are!" This time it wasn't much trouble for Rebecca to let go of him, since she walked inside the penthouse suite amazed at everything she saw. Scipio went to another room to get something, while Rebecca took a look at everything. She left her heavy bag on the floor and started from the window view and finally lied down on a big couch. "Wow, this is amazing!" she said with a bit of excitement. Rebecca sighed and looked up at the ceiling. Everything was hard to believe, hard to understand. So many things she have never seen before, and so many people. This world seemed massive for her, and her thoughts lend space for a memory about what HoangJo told her before leaving the village. A massive world to enjoy, to learn from. Quite a reflexive moment. Scipio got back with more items on him, Rebecca remained lost in her thoughts just before a man opened the door to the suite. She tilted her head backwards from the couch to see Marcus. He said "Sorry, I came at a bad time, I see. I'll be back in... four hou-" and then got interrupted by Scipio, who introduced his friend to Rebecca. Rebecca only waved at Marcus and stood back listening to the witty chat, hardly understanding the jokes Scipio and Marcus seemed to be making about each other. Like a kid listening to his parents talk to unknown old-time friends, just watching, smiling and probably saying yes to everything. Some words cought Rebecca's attention though, as Scipio finished his talk with Marcus. "Don't worry, mate- with any luck, I'll come back with enough for a god!" It was something to make Rebecca think even more. It had defenitely something to do with her father's story about Oahl Mehr. The door closed and Scipio turned to her, offering her to take anything she wanted. She took an apple she saw at a tray and started eating it. She was asked about Oahl Mehr, making Rebecca get into a somewhat nostalgic mood. Also, not knowing what a library was, she started talking with more confidence. "Of course I remember. I... I just can't tell you anything about it... It's so different." she looked down and then faced Scipio again "But I can tell you that the portal that brought me here wasn't the same that brought my dad. Or at least it wasn't in the same place." She looked up with a small frown "Actually, it was my dad who oppened both portals to this place. But now that his powers are gone..." she munched the apple and looked back down, raising an eyebrow "I wonder if he found the portal to my village, or maybe he actually made it by himself." Scipio let his bags hit the ground and grimaced as he paced back and forth, biting his thumb as he paced back and forth, thinking. ”Yeah, your father said the same thing, not being able to tell me anything- you know, that’s really unhelpful to the guy trying to get ya back home. And it hurts deep down, right here, that you aren’t willing to trust me with that kinda info…” Scipio thumped his chest right above his heart before he saw Rebecca’s expression. Grinning, Scipio put his hands up and shook his head, laughing all the while. ”Kidding, kidding! But seriously,” Scipio laced his fingers behind his head, continuing the pacing that helped him think so much. Rebecca must have been getting dizzy if she was watching him closely the entire time, ”This quest to find the legendary Oahl Mehr is getting more and more interesting by the second!” Scipio grinned like a child having received a desired toy on Christmas day, the challenge of reaching Oahl Mehr becoming more and more tantalizing to him. ”Man, I’m starting to get excited!” Scipio laughed, rubbing his hands together as he continued to saunter around the room, his brain well outpacing his feet, taking all of the given information and processing it, trying to construe a favorable outcome from all of this. ”Okay, okay. Let’s think logically about this. If your father was able to open the portals both times, and in two separate locations, it does seem likely that your father was the epicenter of both portals, though the fact that the second portal stripped him of that power makes that seem unlikely, especially when you seem to be unaffected, yourself. Perhaps the location does matter, like your father opened the first portal on holy ground, something inherently connected with Oahl Mehr, but failed to do so the second time, leading to his power stripping?” Scipio shuddered at the thought of losing all of his hard-earned power. That would be horrifying indeed- he would have to be careful to learn where Hoangjo made his mistake and be sure not to repeat it, no matter what happened. Finally stopping his back and forth pacing, Scipio grinned at Rebecca. ”Okay. So let’s say your father did manage to open it using his power. While you were in Oahl Mehr, how strong do you think your father was, when he managed to open the portal?” Raising his hand to eye level, clenching his hand into a fist several times as if watching the movement of his muscles, Scipio estimated his own power levels. ”I’d guess…that at maximum power, using Descent into Darkness, I could probably match the strength of about…maybe just short of a million men? Still probably not enough to rip a portal between worlds, huh?” Scipio laughed at his little joke before turning back to Rebecca, picking up his travel backpack. ”Well, no time like the present to find out the truth, eh? Let’s head over to the sites where your father opened up both portals, and see if we can’t find out just what your father did in order to open up those portals. In the meanwhile, I’ll have a few of my people try and find out if there are any legends based on Oahl Mehr in our world.” Scipio whipped a smartphone from inside a jacket pocket, dialing Anastasia’s number. ”Yeah, it’s Scipio. Listen. Get the Crows together, search for any and all information pertinent to ‘Oahl Mehr.’ Yes, that includes fairy tales and the like, and yes, your boss is being selfish as hell as usual.” Scipio ended the call with that and inclined his head as he entered the elevator once more. ”Coming, love?” ----------------------------------------- Word Count: 624 Words Total Word Count: 1,700 Words |

Rebecca kept munching the apple as Scipio started to think. "...it hurts deep down, right here, that you aren't willing to trust me with that kinda info…" said Scipio to her, but Rebecca wouldn't get the joke. She could have thought of it as an honest confession but Scipio laughed just in time to let her ignore the comment. He seemed to be excited about this journey. Maybe there was something more than just helping her head back home. With Scipio moving around the room, Rebecca listened carefully to what he was speaking. She found something in all of those words that aimed her mind into a certain question. How did the portal did not affect her just like it did with HoangJo? The rest of Scipio's deduction wasn't as meaningful to her. She had the same blood, she came from the same place and the portals definitely got them to the same world. But at the same time, she wasn't only her father's blood, she was born in Oahl Mehr while HoangJo just got there somehow. Most importantly, she wasn't as strong as HoangJo was back in the village. Both adventurers held doubts and fears, but the real quest was yet to be ignited. Another much would be the last one for Rebecca to finish the apple. Not sure of where to take it, she just left the rest of it back in the tray. This took her out of her thoughts long enough to listen to Scipio again, who had just asked her how strong her father was when he opened the first portal. There was always pride within her whenever she spoke about HoangJo, but now she would keep that feeling locked away, for an old memory is what remained from it. She had to answer Scipio however, if they wanted to go anywhere, and so she did. "I can't tell at all. His powers didn't seem to have any limits. If he had never told me about his past, it would have been easy for me to believe he was a god. I haven't met anyone here yet with powers like his. Bora is the strongest I've seen but... he's not that powerful." She looked a bit down, trying not to get too excited and start sanctifying her father as she would usually do. One more time, Rebecca wasn't as amused with Scipio's little joke as he was. He stood up and took a backpack, inviting her to start moving towards their hidden goal. Scipio took out a smartphone and started talking. Rebecca looked around trying to see who he would be speaking to, but no one else was with them. "Uhm... are you talking to me?" she asked, but there was no answer at all since Scipio would keep talking on the phone. Once he got his mysterious gadget down, Rebecca would look at it curiously. Scipio entered the elevator, asking Rebecca to come with him. She followed him and got into the elevator, still trying to find out what that smartphone was. The elevator doors closed and it started moving. She would not jump towards Scipio this time, but the trip down still gave her a funny sensation. Finally the doors opened again and a woman appeared in front of Rebecca. She was not aware that everyone could use the elevator, making her think about why this woman seemed to be waiting for them. Rebecca quickly took a defensive battle stance before looking at the lady. WC: 577 TWC: 1,338 |

Scipio grabbed the apple that Rebecca didn’t finish, not wanting it to go to waste. He finished it off in a few bites, before carelessly throwing it at a chrome trashcan stashed in the corner of the walkway into his suite. It was conveineitly out of the way for just this purpose. tugged at his left earlobe, an unfortunate habit he had gained recently and had yet to get rid of. ”Literally more powerful than a god, huh? Power without limits...damn. This is getting more and more interesting by the moment, huh, love?” Scipio grinned to himself. ”I don’t know this ‘Bora’ or whatever, but he just sounds like one more marker stone that we have to reach in terms of power. Alright, we’ve got a goal then. Just got to make our way towards it, now. No big deal. One step at a time will get us up the mountain eventually. Shitty proverb, yeah, but a proverb all the same.” Scipio tried to console Rebecca. Finishing up his conversation with Anastasia, Scipio ended the conversation with just a careless thumbing of the touchscreen, about to slid his smartphone back into his pocket when he noticed Rebecca growing interested in it. ”No, that wasn’t to you- just to some subordinates of mine. It’s called a cellphone. If someone else also has one of these, I can communicate with them damn near anywhere in the world. Hell, with military level clearance, I can probably talk to people on other worlds, too.” Scipio smirked before casually handing the smartphone to Rebecca. Scipio didn’t keep anything important on it- he was far too smart for that- even the numbers of his subordinates were wiped immediately after their calls, and no contact info was stored on it. It was effectively a somewhat expensive burner phone. It didn’t even have a passcode lock on it- just a few useful apps and games for the endless tedium Scipio fought with his every breath. Leaning against the cool steel of his personal elevator, Scipio closed his eyes and began tugging at his ear again, assessing all the information in his brain, trying to think of a way through all of this, a solution to the problem. So it strips power upon leaving, but not upon entering. But only for HoangJo, not for his daughter- and presumably not for his wife. So is it because Oahl Mehr rejected him, not naturally being part of its world? A worrying hypothesis if it’s true- that means I can’t enter myself. Or is it because he entered as a foreign entity, then left after spending enough time to become acclimated? If the second one is true, then I might be able to at least spend a few days in there to explore. But what if… Scipio cut off all the ‘what ifs’ and ‘maybe buts,’ realizing something crucial: ”I still don’t have enough information to go off.” He said aloud, never once opening his eyes. However, as Scipio felt the elevator shudder to a stop, he broke this meditative trance, immediately knowing something was up. The elevator ride, one that he had taken countless times, and knew by heart, had stopped short, and jerkily at that, as if someone had artificially stopped it by clamping the wires or the like. Immediately on guard, Scipio kept his sedate appearance, trying to lull the woman into a false sense of security, all the while slowly passing a knife between his fingers. ”And who exactly are you supposed to be?” Scipio drawled. ”No one of any importance, Mr. Scipio. We heard that you were looking for the legendary Oahl Mehr.” Scipio lazily raised one, questioning eyebrow. ”How the hell did you know my name? Far too many people these days- pretty women especially- that know my name, but aren’t courteous enough to give me theirs in return. It’s almost enough to make a gentleman like myself depressed.” Scipio pouted. ”Though I suppose you bugged my apartment. Damn. I’m going to have to set off another EMP there. And I just installed the new T.V., too.” He said, completely monotone, as if not interested in the conversation at all. The woman was understandably ticked. ”If you won’t take this seriously, maybe I can force you to!” She snarled, pulling out a gun. Scipio’s reaction was as decisive as it was immediate. Throwing the knife at the gun, jamming the pistol and rendering it useless, Scipio darted forward, his hands lunging out to subdue the woman, a second dagger magically appearing in his hands at her throat. ”Now, tell us why you’re after Oahl Mehr, honey, and you might survive the night.” The woman spat on the ground, laughing. ”Doubtful.” She sneered, biting down hard on her mouth. There was an audible crack, and Scipio immediately knew what was wrong, but it was too late. ”Damn…suicide pill.” He muttered to himself as the woman dropped from his grip, frothing at the mouth. ”So this girl was so scared of whatever might come that she would rather kill herself than divulge information…interesting…” Scipio thought. He began searching her body, looking for identification of some sort, and immediately froze. ”Becca, get ready to run…” The strange instrument Scipio saw began beeping. ”Shit shit shit shit bomb! RUN!” Scipio dove back into the elevator, grabbing Rebecca’s hand before sprinting out towards that condominium level’s windows, using a ki blast to destroy them harmlessly, before jumping through with Rebecca, pulling her along with force if she was scared. Bunching up his muscles, Scipio tightened his grip on Rebecca before throwing himself from the building, the pair just escaping the bomb’s radius. ”Well, that was close.” Scipio said calmly as the two fell to their apparent deaths. ”So, there are other people after your homeland. We’re going to have to research this. Still, I think I might have a bit of an idea as to find out what these people want. Care to do a little bit of spy work with me?” Scipio grinned at Rebecca as the ground grew closer and closer. ”Oh right, falling to our deaths. Silly me. Gimme a second.” Wrapping his ki around the two of them, Scipio slowed down their fall with his flight ability, managing to save them from a messy end and a short stop after a long fall by mere feet. ”Do you have any idea who they might have been, or what that woman wanted?” Scipio asked as they touched the ground gracefully, going to grab his motorcycle. ------------------------------------------ Word Count: 1,097 Words Total Word Count: 2,793 Words |
