Mei walked through the woods towards the base of Mount Frappe, squinting as the howling winds and blinding snow made it difficult to traverse. Thanks to the Sukinbaningu, the Burning Skin Technique, Mei did not fear the harsh cold of the elements as her ki flowed through her body and continuously provided warmth. Still, she needed warm clothes as to not expand her ki; she could not control the Sukinbaningu, and if she was not careful, the technique would drain her dry on the blizzard scourged face of Mount Frappe. As she walked towards the mountain, Mei spotted a small house in the middle of the woods. Mei approached the house and knocked on the door, hoping that whoever lived in this place would know something about climbing Mount Frappe. From what Mei could recall from her master’s brazier, no woman could climb the mountain due to impassable blizzards that formed whenever one came near. “Hello?” Mei called out loudly, “is anyone home?” “No!” came a raspy old voice. “You have offended the mountain, and should go away! It’s because of you the blizzards are roaring like a hundred hungry lions! The cold is not helping my bees!” “I can’t turn around now!” Mei shouted back at the old woman. “There’s a brazier on the summit of the mountain and I need to reach it!” Silence came over the door with the exception of the howling winds of the winter gale. Mei kept her hood up to avoid the cold and not agitate the Sukinbaningu further. Eventually, the door did open revealing a tiny old woman in a purple pointed hat. She frowned at Mei as she examined the Kasai student with a critical eye. “So,” she said, “this is why Mount Frappe is in an even worse mood than usual. Normally the mountain gets upset when any women get it in their heads to step foot on it, but for you, the blizzards came down even to my front step. Who are you and why have you come here?” “I’m Mei Xing,” she replied, “I’m a student of the Kasai Hato Katachi from the temple far to the west. My master Fuega told me to come here to continue my pilgrimage since she left one of her sacred braziers on the summit of the mountain.” The old woman hummed for a moment in an internal debate that Mei was not privy to. “You should come inside then,” she said at last, “maybe I’ll be able to dissuade you from your fool’s errand, and tell you why the mountain is in such a state as it is.” Mei bowed to the old woman, followed her, and was immediately hit by the fresh scent of sweet honey and fragrant flowers. When offered a seat, Mei accept as the old woman fetched some tea and poured two cups before sitting on her own tiny chair. “My name is Grandma Hakkake, and I’ve lived in this house near Mount Frappe for the majority of my life.” Hakkake took a sip of her tea. “It is also why I know the name Fuega well. It is not a name well regarded around here, for those who know the tale. So you came all this way to climb the mountain that your master helped put a curse on. Maybe you need to realize what she did to make an entire mountain be cranky whenever a woman steps foot on it.” Mei listened quietly as Hakkake began her story. “By the way my mother told me, and her mother before her, a woman with snow white hair and dark skin arrived on the mountain one day while my own grandmother began raising our special, rare bees. She carried with her a golden brazier, probably the one you are looking for now. A few days later, she left the mountain. Whatever she did up there, it upset Mount Frappe and it responded by creating the blizzards that accost it today. At least, when a woman shows up. Maybe it’s magic, maybe it’s just superstition, but I dare not approach the mountain myself if I can avoid it. Whatever Fuega did though, it remained for hundreds of years. You must be similar to Fuega in some way to have the mountain react with the same fury.” Mei sipped her tea as she let the information from Hakkake sink in. Master and student were both Kasai and considering that meant they were users of the fire element, Mei guessed that maybe a cold mountain like Mount Frappe did not like the presence of a burning artifact on its summit. While she did not fear the blizzards, Mei did wonder how she was going to find the brazier. She may as well look for the proverbial needle in the haystack. “I’m not too worried about climbing the mountain,” Mei said, “My abilities will keep me warm as I climb the mountain, and I can fly as well.” Grandma Hakkake laughed. “You’ve never been around these parts, have you? The frigid winds of Mount Frappe can freeze fire. That should be physically impossible, but I’ve seen it happen. No birds fly near when the storms rage as they are tossed about like ragdolls in a hurricane. Turn away from your quest, missy, and maybe you can learn something from me.” Mei raised a brow. “You’re a master? What can you teach?” “Oh a great many things!” Grandma Hakkake pointed to a large pile of unwashed dishes. “I can teach you how to keep a tidy home for your future husband. I can teach you about washing dishes, cooking large, delicious meals, taking care of house and home, that sort of thing.” Embarrassed, Mei waved off Grandma Hakkake, giving her an uneasy smile. “No! No husbands for me, I’m a priestess in training after all. Now then… has anyone ever climbed Mount Frappe? Maybe I can follow their path and make it all the way to the top way?” Grandma Hakkake rubbed her chin in deep thought. “The last person who climbed Mount Frappe really didn’t do so. He was flying around on a cloud and since he was a man, the mountain did not react to his presence. It may not be fair, missy, but that’s just the way the mountain works.” Mei looked at the mountain from her seat. It did look scary and cold, but the Sukinbaningu would keep her warm. The winds would be harsh, but her flight would keep her path true to the summit. All she needed to do was brave the storm and reach it. “I won’t be scared off by a mountain or a little snow,” Mei said, standing up tall for Hakkake. “I’m going to make it to the top and find my master’s brazier.” Grandma Hakkake shook her head. “Then you’ll have a tough task on your hands, missy. I wish you luck and a speedy journey up the mountain. The sooner you can get these blizzards to go away, the sooner I can get back to my bees.” Mei thanked Hakkake and left the comfortable home and stepped out into the raging blizzard that Mount Frappe gave to the land. With her hands clenched into fists, Mei called upon her ki and summoned forth her blazing red aura around her. She wanted to defeat the trial of the mountain as quickly as possible so that the winter storm would not harangue Hakkake and her bees for much longer. She hurtled towards the summit of Mount Frappe making good distance, her forceful aura separating the snow into waves. However, the closer she got, the stronger the winds became. The frosty air did little to help; even with the Burning Skin Technique, she felt the biting cold against her exposed skin. Unused to such cold temperatures, Mei lowered herself to the side of the mountain, her body sinking into the frozen snow. “Never expected the mountain to be this harsh,” Mei muttered, “I can do this though… I am Kasai. I am fire.” Mei needed to move fast and quick. Flight just made her cold, so she decided to move with her ki-infused strength. Mei leapt from spot to spot and made her way up Mount Frappe, all the while taking a moment to feed more ki to the Sukinbaningu. All she needed to was keep the pace. Eventually she made her way to the summit of the Mount Frappe, breathing heavily as her hands clasped around the point. Mei looked up to see the brazier, but only saw a mountain capped with snow. “Maybe it’s buried,” Mei wondered, and began to dig into the snow on the summit. Sure enough, she eventually found the relic her master left behind. Despite the snowstorm that raged all around her, or because of the lack of oxygen, Mei felt elated on her discovery. The brazier looked just as pristine as the one in the tomb. Mei sat down across the brazier in a meditative stance, opened her hand, and called a hinotama into existence. She tossed the fireball into the brazier and the coals instantly came to life. However, as soon as the flames began to crackle, the blizzard of Mount Frappe only intensified. She wondered if perhaps the presence of fire enraged the mountain further than any woman could. The spectre of her master formed above the flames of the brazier as it did in the tomb. Old Master Fuega looked on at Mei, her bony hands firmly on top of her gnarled cane. “You have done well to come to this place,” Old Master Fuega said, “You are to be commended for your ability to defy Mount Frappe. I came to Mount Frappe many times for my training of the Kasai Hato Katachi, for what better place for fire to grow strong than in a place of great cold. It would appear that Mount Frappe did not appreciate my presence. First, fire did not please the mountain. Then my own presence caused the storms. Eventually it did not like women in general. Such a moody anthill.” Old Master Fuega chuckled, only for her face to grow grim. “My student, you must now make haste to Mount Paozu with all your speed. When you activated the first brazier, you awoke an ancient and terrible enemy of my past. There is a woman with skills equal to my own, though far more evil. She is the Black Fire Witch, who I sealed away in the earth with my braziers. When the first brazier was awoken, the seal broke. You must be on your guard always, for the Black Fire Witch will hunt you down without mercy. Her skills with the Kuro Kasai are without rival, and her thirst for destruction cannot be quenched. By now, she will be heading to your location.” Mei quickly stood and scanned the horizon for any attacker. She never heard of anyone using the Kasai for evil. She never heard of the Black Fire Witch. Why would the braziers being activated release such a fiend? Mei had so many question, but not a lot of time for answers. Fuega’s face grew solemn. “Remember, you must go to Mount Paozu for the third brazier. There, all will be revealed. The origin of the Kasai. My own history. And the revelation of the Black Fire Witch. Now, on your guard, my precious student. My heir to the Kasai Hato Katachi… the Black Fire Witch comes.” The image of Fuega disappeared when a hinotama, far larger than anything Mei had ever sparked into existence, flew right towards her. Mei tried to jump out of the way only for the great orb of fire to detonate. The shockwave blasted Mei off her feet and sent her careening down the side of Mount Frappe. High above her, Mei spotted her attacker. Standing a foot taller than Mei thanks to pointed heels, a woman with long blonde hair had her hand extended and fingers spread, eager to launch another attack. She wore clothes that did not seem practical for fighting in the slightest and showed off a lot of skin. Most disturbing to Mei were the blonde woman’s crimson eyes; the same eyes she shared with Mei and other Kasai. Mei crawled on the cold snow as she inhaled a large quantity of smoke. She rolled on her back and looked up to the flying image of her attacker, unable to even comprehend what just happened. Had she just been attacked by a fellow Kasai? That seemed completely unreal, as the Elder Sisters and Old Master Fuega insisted that the only Kasais lived in the Temple. The only way anyone could learn the Kasai Hato Katachi was from the Temple. Who was this woman then who used the flame as if she was a seasoned veteran? “Who are you?” Mei shouted. The woman smirked as she floated down until her heeled boots touched down on the summit of Mount Frappe. She did not speak, only smiled as she raised her hand and blasted Mei again with another powerful fireball. ![]() Brushing aside a lock of blonde hair, the woman finally spoke. “I suppose it is only fair that you know the name of your executioner.” She bowed in a mock curtsey, listing the sides of her orange skirt. “My name is Cineza, slayer of all the false flames. I suppose that would make you the Last Kasai after I made my rather triumphant return to the Temple. Best regards from the Black Fire Witch!” A frozen chill ran down Mei’s spine. Her eyes went as wide as saucers. Her voice shook. The Black Fire Witch? But that was just a story, a myth! How could the Dark Kasai be standing in front of her here, now? “What… what are you talking about? What about the Temple? What did you do!?” Cineza cackled while another hinotama formed in her hand. “Maybe I should let you live so you can find out. Wouldn’t that be delicious, to see the little girl break down in the ashes of her home, of her friends and teachers? Ah, but killing you then would be similar to mercy, and that is a game I simply will not play. The more painful the death, the better it is for me as I consume your Kasai.” Cineza held up her hand, readying her attack. “Now then, put up your hands, girl. I prefer to have some kind of fun with my food before I go in for the kill.” Mei felt her tears roll down her face despite the intense cold of the mountain. They froze as soon as they hit the snow. She clenched her fists, grabbing fistfuls of snow as she trembled with both despair and rage. Cineza must have been lying, she must! The Sisters would not have allowed themselves to be defeated by one woman, even if she was Kasai like them. Old Master Fuega, while aged, still carried incredible power. She would not have let Cineza hurt any of her foster daughters. “You…” Mei growled as she stood up to her feet, her fists clenched as her ki flowed freely around her. “You lie! The Sisters would have defeated you easily! Old Master Fuega would have burnt you to ashes before you even got close to the Temple! I’ll shut you up and drag you to them myself!” “Poor little girl is in denial,” Cineza sneered. “I have Master Fuega with me on this very mountain. You want her back? Then come at me with everything you’ve got!” Mei roared, her ki empowering her with a blazing red aura. “KA!” Mei shouted as the frigid snow of Mount Frappe melted around her. She raised her hands, ready for battle. “Fierce! As! FIRE!” A storm of fire and ash descended on Mount Frappe, created by the hands of a woman who called herself Cineza. A cacophony of crackling flames did not deter Mei from rising to the false Kasai’s challenge for battle. A face sharing beauty and evil that wielded the Fire Heart did not break her resolve. Mei raised her hands and brought her palms forward, moving her feet into a proper fighting stance. “My name is Mei Xing!” she said loudly and with pride. “I am a student of the Kasai Hāto Katachi and I will defeat you!” “Spoken like a true hero,” Cineza replied with a smirk. “You do know what happens to heroes in the real world, right? They die!” Surrounded by a red aura of blazing power, much like Mei’s own, Cineza shot forward through the air with incredible speed. Her fists clenched tight, Cineza struck out with a powerful strike aimed directly at pressing Mei’s nose inward. Mei raised her forearm to block the punch. Her face scrunched up as pain shot through her limb. Cineza was much stronger than Mei had given her credit for. Mei replied by pushing Cineza’s fist away with her arm and then raising her palm for a stiff blow to the jaw. Cineza capitalized on the split-second of hesitation caused by her attack and grabbed Mei’s wrist. Using her superior strength, Cineza shifted her entire body weight to be behind the throw, lifting Mei in the air over her head and tossing her hard to the ground. The collision with the hard ground racked Mei’s body with pain. She lay flat on her back as Cineza took the moment to gloat. Every fiber of Mei’s cried out in agony as she attempted to get up. Turning over, Mei tried to catch her breath and ease the shakes throughout her body. Ash and dust flew into her mouth, sending her into a coughing fit. “Is this the best you can muster?” Cineza taunted, “You are going to have to do much better than that to even come close. At this rate, it’s going to a thousand years before you can even prove a challenge.” Mei got back to her feet, glaring bloody murder at Cineza. She could not match Cineza’s superior strength, at least not blow for blow, and the longer the battle drew out, the more destruction her opponent would cause to the mountain. The sound strategy would be to drive Cineza away from the mountain and attack her using a speed advantage. There was also the fact that as a fellow of student of the Kasai, Cineza knew all of the same techniques Mei knew and practiced. The hinotama. The Sukinbāningu. Perhaps most troubling, the Iyashino-en, which would only prolong the battle between the two and cause even further destruction to everyone but themselves thanks to the technique’s healing capability. Fists clenched and at her sides, Mei fueled her body with as much energy as she could to release the power she saved for true battles. Her cry was to both the heavens and her own body; she needed all the power she could get to defeat Cineza and stop her madness. The ground around her shook as ki crackled all around in. A ring of fire flashed from her body, and soon she was now encased in her red aura. For the first time since they met, Cineza’s twisted smirk faltered. Mei could see the spark of doubt in Cineza’s eyes. The fact scared Cineza that she no longer fought a helpless little girl who could not defend herself, but a true fighter who could go toe-to-toe with her. “You wanted all I could muster?” Mei shouted, and raised an open palm towards Cineza. “Then have it!” A ball of flame erupted from her hand and flew towards Cineza. The blonde pyromaniac laughed as the simple fireball hurtled towards her. “Is that it? A hinotama?” Her laughter sounded like nails on a chalkboard to Mei. “Is that all you can do? Simple children’s tricks? Let me show you exactly what I think of your feeble attempts!” Cineza wound up her hand to bat away the incoming fireball. Mei smiled, and then whispered the invocation of her true technique. “Hikari no Hikō.” As Cineza delivered the deflecting backhand to the fireball, it detonated the moment her hand made contact. The explosion enveloped the area in a brilliant flash of white light, blinding Cineza and causing her to cover her eyes and scream in anguish. Mei moved liked a blur to the world around her, but to her, everything slowed down to a crawl. She flew towards Cineza and struck her hard in the belly with an open palm strike. Before Cineza could even compute the pain that ran through her gut, Mei struck again with a swift but powerful kick to her midsection. Like a wrecking ball, her foot connected with Cineza’s arm, crushing it and her side and sending her careening into the ground. Cupping her hands together, Mei gathered her ki to form into a powerful beam attack. With a shout, she fired the beam towards her foe. The red lance of power brightened the sky as it pierced through the air and towards Cineza. The beam struck true, erupting into a radiant red radius of ki fallout consuming the very ground and perhaps Cineza with it. The explosion deafened Mei’s ears, and the shockwave from the attack flattened the snowbanks. Mei’s breathing turned ragged as she could feel her power slipping away from such attacks. She filled her strikes with all the energy she could, and now she felt the burn throughout her body. Such an onslaught left her feeling drained, but the battle would not be over until she could feel the barest sliver of ki from Cineza. Only the opposite was true. Mei backed away slowly as she felt a rising power emerge from where she blasted Cineza, a sudden but dramatic spike in her enemy’s ki. A kiai ripped through the air, fueled by great power and rage, ripping the very ground apart. Cineza burst from the ground, her teeth grinding and her ki flaring about her like a raging blaze. With fury on her side, she lashed out with a flurry of palm strikes and kicks the likes she had never used against a living person before. She wanted to hurt Cineza for her lies and by the Kasai, she would do everything she could to make it so. However, this would prove a much more daunting challenge than Mei first realized. Cineza ducked and weaved out of the way of Mei’s limbs, all the while smiling like a twisted, demented clown. Such a smile both infuriated Mei and concerned her; how was she to fight a woman who appeared to be not only incredibly strong, but also insane as well. Mei made for a swift kick aimed right at Cineza’s head, only for her foe to actually block for once. When Mei struck her arm, her foot racked her with pain. The strength Cineza displayed took Mei by surprise. Her ki flowed like the rapids of a river and helped reinforce her potency. Cineza’s eyes narrowed as she took hold of Mei’s leg and slammed the younger girl into the side of the mountain. A mouth filled with snow, Mei coughed as she tried to get back up only to be pushed down with Cineza’s boot on her back. “You really should just lie down, little girl,” she jeered, “this mountain has claimed the lives of hundreds of souls who thought they could defeat it. Feel honoured, as while you bested this mountain, another has allowed you to make this your final resting place.” To accentuate her point, rather literally, Cineza dug the sharp end of her heel into Mei’s back. Mei howled in agony as she tried to squirm away; she could feel the immense pressure on her back and feared Cineza was going to break it. Mei extended both of her hands in front of her, desperate for a way to escape. Focusing her ki rather than the excruciating pain, Mei called for two hinotama’s to form in her palms. The force from the blast pushed Mei along the snow and allowed her to be free from Cineza’s heel. Cineza fell forward, face first onto the mountain while Mei flipped back to her feet. Cineza recovered quickly looking absolutely livid “Make a fool of me, will you?!” She roared and aimed both of her fists at Mei. From her fists sparked two tunnels of intense flame that soared towards Mei. Powering up, Mei took flight, only narrowly avoiding the flames from Cineza. The fire tunnels seared against the side of the mountain, melting snow and blackening the rock underneath. With hands pointed towards Cineza, Mei launched an attack of her own. “Hinotama!” she shouted, launching a volley of fireballs at Cineza. Her focus was not completely on her enemy though; Mei extended her senses in an effort to find her Master. If Cineza was telling the truth, then she needed to find Old Master Fuega as soon as possible. At last she detected Fuega’s ki on the mountainside, somewhere close by. Cineza must have captured her to make the Kasai Master watch as she murdered her student. But if that was the case, then Cineza was telling the truth. She did attack the Temple. She did fight Mei’s sisters. “You…” Mei snarled as her aura blazed all around her. “You’ll pay for your crimes! Burn!” In a sudden movement, Mei’s fireballs grew larger and flew faster. Fueled by her rage, her barrage assaulted the spot where Cineza stood. She never felt such an emotion before. She never once knew what it meant to truly hate someone. Yet now, all she could feel was unbridled hatred for Cineza and she would do everything she could to kill her, to reduce her to ashes. Cineza grimaced as she became consumed by Mei’s firestorm. Eventually the explosions of so many hinotamas completely enveloped her. Mei took a deep breath as the fires raged around Mount Frappe and where Cineza once stood. She tried to focus, to concentrate on Cineza’s incredibly ki, but she did not want to lose track of Fuega. Without another word, Mei tried to calm herself and flew off to find her. She landed in front of the old master who appeared to be doing fine considering the mountain’s furious blizzards blowing around them. Mei could still feel the warmth of her Master’s Kasai emanating from her. Fuega shook her head as she leaned on her cane, looking lost in thought. Or perhaps she despaired over Cineza’s attack. “My child,” Fuega said, “I’m afraid something has happened. Cineza proved too powerful for the other Sisters. I’m sorry it has come to this.” “It’s alright, Master,” Mei said, holding Fuega’s hand. “Together we can defeat Cineza, or at least escape!” “Not quite.” Mei spun around to see Cineza smiling with her wicked smile, but otherwise unharmed by Mei’s firestorm. She yawned and stood nonchalant in the snow. “Was that really the best you could muster? This is going to be easy.” Cineza rushed towards Mei, her hands clenched into tight fists that struck out with incredible force. Mei tried to block, but the pain stung throughout her limbs. Cineza also moved with such speed that Mei knew she could not keep up with her indefinitely; eventually, Cineza would wear down her defenses. The fact that Cineza used a closed fist style as well as the flames of Kasai threw Mei completely off-balance. She thought she was facing a rogue Kasai who used the same movements, attack patterns, and techniques as Mei knew. She could not have been further from the truth. Cineza struck her hard with closed fists and a fierce ki aura surrounding her. She used her Kasai as a weapon, lashing out with the flame as she burned everything around her. The cold of Mount Frappe did nothing to deter her. Fire raged on the summit of the mountain for the first time in perhaps forever. With her greater strength, Cineza punched Mei straight in the stomach. The younger woman cried out as she held her gut, falling to her knees. She looked up only to receive a swift kick to the head. The blow sent her spiraling down the mountain. Mei groaned as she tried to stand up, but her knees gave out from under her. She turned to face Cineza who walked down the mountain with an evil smile on her face and a hand on her hip. Her various gold bangles jingled in the harsh wind, belying Cineza’s baleful intent with rather cheery chimes. “This is the best you have then?” Cineza mocked, “A shame. You couldn’t hold a candle to me on by worst day. Well, time to finish this then.” Mei quickly turned onto her back, her hand outstretched. She fired a beam of red energy right at Cineza, who only managed to hit the snow to avoid it. When both stood up to their feet, Mei took the offensive, grabbing Cineza’s arm and kicking her in the face as she kept hold. With Cineza dazed from the surprise offensive, Mei quickly brought her heel backward, striking against Cineza’s face. Cineza fell, clutching her face as Mei readied herself for further battle. Cineza roared as she leapt to the skies, rubbing her slightly bruised cheek with a slender hand. Her aura flared around her, the flames swirling about with great fury. She called for two hinotamas that formed in her hands, both emitting an intense heat and light. Readying herself for an incoming fireball projectile attack, only for Cineza to hover further up in the air. Cineza outstretched her arms with the hinotamas held firmly against her palms with the strength of her ki. She then began to spin and the flames began to trail around her. Mei felt a spike of ki from Cineza as the flames started to rotate faster and grow larger. Mei backed away from Cineza as she saw the attack grow in size and power, a verifiable tornado of flame that scorched the wind. The winds of Mount Frappe tried to blow with all their might, but Cineza’s incredible technique continued to spin wildly without abating. Not even the supernatural winds of the mountain’s anger of three women on its surface could stop the fiery whirlwind. “Behold the punishment for the crime of even thinking to harm my face, let alone actually doing it!” Cineza cackled as she flew out of the center of her burning tornado. She kept her hands forward to control the attack. “My greatest technique! More than enough to bring an upstart like you down to hell!” “Reduce to ash! Kaentatsumaki!” With the invocation done, the fiery, swirling inferno launched itself towards Mei. She scrambled away in a desperate attempt to escape the Kaentatsumaki. Yet as fast as she could go, the whirlwind continued to give chase and was even gaining speed towards her. Unable to flee, Mei turned to fight the whirlwind of living fire. Mei raised her palm towards the tornado and charged all of her remaining energy into one massive beam. She needed to do everything she could to dissipate the Kaentatsumaki. Knowing how vile Cineza was, there was no guarantee that should her attack defeat Mei, she would get rid of the tornado on her own. She may even let the Kaentatsumaki burn everything as it hurdled down the mountain. Mei thought of Grandma Hakkakke, the animals, and any other denizens who lived in the forest. She could not allow Cineza to destroy so much as long as Mei drew breath. And maybe, just maybe, their battle was enough of a distraction for Fuega to escape. Bracing herself for the attack, Mei closed her eyes and clenched her teeth shut as the first wave of fire smashed into her. The force of the whirlwind immediately lifted her from the ground and began to toss her violently around. The fire lashed against her, burning exposed skin and scorching her clothes. Try as she might, Mei could not escape the Kaentatsumaki. All she could do was bundle up and ride out the excruciating fire. All of Mei’s life, she was burnt by fire, but she was able to resist and eventually heal the burns. She never once felt the destructive power of the Kasai being used against her in such a way as Cineza did. Unable to take any more damage, Mei felt her ki vanish and she let the whirlwind swing her body every which way until the technique finally ended. She fell unceremoniously onto the snow, barely able to move. The crunch of snow signaled to Mei that Cineza walked towards her. Lifting her by the collar of her ruined cheongsam, Cineza held the battered and looked her over with a disappointed look on her face. “That really wasn’t much. I was promised much more, you know. Still, you lasted longer than the others, I’ll give you some credit. Not much, but it’s better than nothing. Now then, let’s finish this little dance, shall we?” Cineza smiled as she raised her fist in the air in preparation for the fatal strike. Mei, too weak to even speak, kept her eyes open and focused on her would-be killer. If this was where Mei would perish, then she would at least look Cineza in the eye when her time came. However, the final blow did not come. Cineza turned her head to where she left Old Master Fuega and held a look of annoyance and contempt on her face. “What is that old hag trying to pull…” Cineza muttered, tossing Mei away like a piece of trash. Her fists clenched, Cineza looked back on Mei’s prone form. “Lucky little snot,” Cineza snarled, “Looks like the old geezer is giving you another lifeline. Here’s the deal… you want to fight me again? Go to the third brazier. I’ll be waiting for you there. If you win, Fuega’s all yours. But if I win…” Cineza brought her face low to Mei’s. “You’re mine. Better get going… the winter winds of Mount Frappe are even more brutal at night.” Her cackling echoing in the cold air despite the raging blizzard, Cineza took flight and headed off to recapture Old Master Fuega. Slowly, Mei attempted to stand up, only to fall back on her face. She tried again, only managing to crawl across the snow. Her body battered and weakened, Mei collapsed once again, this time her body refusing to move. All she could do was weep, her tears freezing in the frigid winds of Mount Frappe. A nudge on her shoulder awoke Mei. She was slightly surprised that she was not dead but still on Mount Frappe where the blizzard did not slow down in the slightest. She looked up to see a small figure poking her while something large and furry lifted her up. “Who…?” she said in a weak voice. Walking closer, Grandma Hakkake made her appearance known. “I heard the maniacal laughter from my house,” she said, “so I came here with my dog to find you and bring you back. Looks like you gut the stuffing kicked out of you. I’m a bit surprised that it wasn’t Mount Frappe that did it, but worried that someone else managed this kind of attack. Come on, we’ll get you back to the base where you can rest and heal.” Mei did not object to being placed on the back of the rather large dog that Grandma Hakkake rode on. As she slipped in and out of consciousness, Mei only had one thought in her mind: She must defeat Cineza. *** WC: 5840 Edited by MeiXing, Mar 25 2015, 10:34 PM.
