Chiaotzu sat beneath one of the many waterfalls that flowed through Mount Paozu, his eyes close as the cold stream cascaded down over his head and shoulders. He, along with Tien, had learned a long time ago how to endure the elements and now the little human found the experience somewhat soothing. He emptied his mind of thoughts, worries, and questions, focusing on the sound of the world around him. The water rushed along, paying no heed to him as it found its way over and around him as water so often did. A light breeze came along, rustling the branches of a nearby bush and gathering up several leaves on its way, taking them with it as it passed through. His senses were so finely tuned that he could even hear the fish swimming beneath him, gliding gracefully through the water as they went about whatever activities occupied the time of a fish. He extended his senses further, feeling the ki that existed in everything. He had honed his ability to detect the energy to the point that he could almost see with it. Chiaotzu could imagine the steady rhythm as the ki flowed through the trees up from the earth itself, feeding and nurturing life, the swirl of light with every breath through a fish's gills, dispersing into the greater whole of the water that surrounded him. It was a beautiful thing, and it was why Chiaotzu was so determined to grow stronger. Innocent and perhaps a touch naïve, he didn't seek power for its own sake. He had seen far too many go down that same path. No, Chiaotzu wished to grow stronger so that he could protect his world and the people that he cared about. There were great threats just beyond the horizon, he was sure of it. Though every past foe that had sought to destroy the world had failed, thanks largely to Son Goku, that did not mean that Chiaotzu was free from responsibility. It was essential for him to train, to grow, and better himself until he reached his limits. And then, it was even more essential that he shatter those limits and progress even further! Perhaps his goal was outside the realm of possibility, but Chiaotzu had seen more than his fair share of impossibilities. And so, finally opening his eyes, he began to train. He started simply, rising from the stone he had sat himself down upon to float above the waterfall. Here, furthest from civilization, Chiaotzu felt paradoxically closer to the world. As he went through the motions of his kata, a practice had had often done alongside his friend Tienshinhan, he considered the forest around him. It was quiet, peaceful, and serene. That was what he needed to be. Every movement had to be precise but effortless, determined but undemanding, like the elements themselves. It was a philosophy that did not come naturally to Chiaotzu, however. During his time training under Master Shen, he had been taught a different approach. His old master had no regard for life, attempting to mold Chiaotzu and Tien into his personal assassins. It even showed through in his techniques, his kikoho drawing its power from the user's life force rather than from their reserves of energy. It was powerful, yes, but displayed the man's callousness. Chiaotzu was often glad that he had managed to escape the man's clutches and become stronger as a result. Life was what was most important and most precious, and he had realized that when he sacrificed himself in battle. An hour passed before Chiaotzu finally finished his physical exercise, and he sat beside the lake and meditated for another hour. This was the pace he set for a while, practicing the more physical aspects of his martial art before retreating into quiet contemplation to hone the spiritual side. Both were equally important and given equal care. Harmony was vital to this training and it was the little human's goal to find the perfect path upon this middle ground. If he could achieve absolute harmony with his training, then he could be harmonious in all things. Again, a lofty goal, but Tien often told him that the importance of aiming for the stars was to reach the moon. Perhaps the end of the path would always be on the horizon, but that did not mean that ground wasn't gained. And, of course, it was the path itself that was the most important part. WC: 739 |

As Chiaotzu settled in once more, he was shaken from his meditation by a scream ringing out through the otherwise placid forest. Leaping into the air, he flew towards the source, weaving between the many trees to reach his destination. When he arrived on the scene, what Chiaotzu saw nearly froze his blood. Two children, huddled close together, were cornered by a vicious looking bear. It roared, moving steadily closer and advancing on the youngsters. With grim determination, Chiaotzu rushed forward as the beast raised one massive paw. Before it could bring it down, he caught hold of it, his own white hands looking miniscule in comparison to the massive animal. The bear roared at him in turn and Chiaotzu threw a fast foot into the creature's chest, sending it sprawling across the ground and creating a shallow furrow, kicking up grass and dirt. He had no desire to kill the bear, only to warn it off. However, it seemed rather stubborn as it rose to its four feet and barreled toward him. It's jaws opened, flecks of spittle flying out as it revealed its many, many, sharp teeth. However, Chiaotzu was ready for it. He held his hands out, catching hold of both parts of the raging bear's mouth, keeping it from trying to bite a chunk out of him. Staring down a bear was often an unsettling experience for most people, but not for Chiaotzu. He had seen monsters, alien invaders who casually took life and laughed when they did so, and to look into the eyes of a primal force of nature was almost relaxing by comparison. He didn't budge an inch even as the bear set its feet, trying to push him to the ground. Instead, he focused his ki, directing it through his palms to release a low-level blast that knocked the bear back again. It wasn't far, but it was enough time for him to do what he needed. Placing his hands to either side of his head, fingers spread, and pointed toward each other, he locked eyes with the animal again before yelling, ”SOLAR FLARE!” White hot light flashed out before him and the bear was blinded. It bellowed, losing focus, unable to determine where it was or where its prey was either. Instead, in fear, it turned and hurried away, bumping into several trees in its hasty retreat. Chiaotzu, for his part, breathed a sigh of relief and lowered his hands, turning to make sure the two children were alright. They were a little dirty and a little bruised, but otherwise fine. Now that there wasn't a ravenous bear nearby, Chiaotzu actually had an opportunity to look at the pair. A boy and a girl, they couldn't have been much older than five or six. They were definitely related as he noted the similarities in their features and their dark hair. The boy was the younger of the two, his hair tied into a braid that went down his back, and he wore the simple clothes of a farmer. His sister's hair was in ponytails and she dressed similarly which confused Chiaotzu as he didn't think there were any farms nearby. Both children just stared at their unconventional savior, uncertain of what to do or say. Chiaotzu smiled and waved, ”Hello!” He took a step forward and the pair flinched away. Frowning, he put his hands up in a peaceful gesture. He could only imagine what they must have gone through, running from that bear and fearing for their lives. Taking that step back, he offered gently, ”I don't mean any harm. Honest. I want to help. How did you get out here? Where are your parents?” Almost on cue, the little boy started crying, clutching at his sister's shirt and burying his face into her shoulder. The sister, seemingly the braver of the pair, wiped at her own eyes before answering, ”Our village was attacked by bandits. My brother and I escaped to get help, but we got lost. That's when the bear chased as and... and you saved us. Our parents are in danger. Can you help us, please?” Chiaotzu could hardly refuse a request for aid, especially considering the circumstances. His fists clenched at the mere thought of these bandits terrorizing people and holding them captive. He wasn't about to just let them get away with it. No matter what, Chiaotzu was going to rid this village of evil. He offered his hand again and nodded, saying, ”Yes, I can help you. And I will help you. I promise I will do everything I can to protect your village. You have my word. I'm Chiaotzu, by the way.” WC: 772 TWC: 1511 Edited by FashaO, Jul 24 2015, 02:40 PM.

The girl smiled, hesitantly reaching out before taking Chiaotzu's hand. She got to her feet, helping her brother to stand as well. They looked exhausted and when their stomachs growled in unison it confirmed the little warrior's suspicions that they were also quite hungry. The two looked a little embarrassed and the girl finally answered with, ”My name is Luisa and this is my brother Sam.” Sam peeked out from behind his sister to look at Chiaotzu who just smiled and waved in a friendly manner in response. ”It's a pleasure to meet you both.” Chiaotzu gave a small formal bow before continuing, ”Before we do anything, though, we should get you two some food!” The children's stomachs rumbled with anticipation and Chiaotzu led the pair back to where he had been staying near the falls. Finding his pack of supplies, he pulled out two handfuls of his homemade black bean dumplings and handed them over to the hungry Sam and Luisa. Possibly more than fighting, Chiaotzu loved to cook and prepare meals. It was a passion of his, really, and he took every opportunity to further his culinary skills. The kids quickly took the offered food, not hesitating to scarf the dumplings down while Chiaotzu prepared some tea for them. While they ate, the brother and sister told Chiaotzu about what had happened. It seemed as though a small army had taken up residence in their village, searching for something. Luisa said she had heard them speaking about some sort of magic ball that granted wishes and Chiaotzu immediately realized that these people were looking for the Dragon Balls. However, Sam and Luisa hadn't heard anything about such an artifact ever being in their village. So, either it was hidden or these invaders were mistaken. It really didn't matter which was the case, though, because what they were doing was wrong no matter what. Chiaotzu gently prodded them with further questions, asking if they knew how many of these people there were and what they looked like. The two kids didn't really know about the numbers, just telling him that there were a lot of them and mentioning big trucks. But it was the physical appearance of these people that caught Chiaotzu's attention most when Luisa mentioned the patches they were looked like red ribbons. The little human warrior frowned, everything clicking into place. It made sense that the Red Ribbon Army would be looking for the Dragon Balls, probably plotting to wish for world domination. Making sure the kids had plenty of food, Chiaotzu took them to a safer place that he had been making camp. ”Just stay here. I'll be back as soon as I've rid your village of Red Ribbon.” And, with that, the fighter set off, launching up into the air to fly at full speed, his aura roaring to life around him and creating a trail of energy behind him that faded over time. When the small assembly of tiny homes was in sight, Chiaotzu slowed down so he wouldn't be immediately spotted, squinting as he tried to get a better look at what was going on. WC: 519 TWC: 2,030 |

There was plenty of movement, the tiny shapes most likely squads of soldiers moving in formation along with several larger shapes that were most likely trucks and other vehicles. Clearly the Red Ribbon army had pulled themselves back together pretty well after being destroyed by Goku. Chiaotzu seethed in quiet anger for a moment as he considered his options. The soldiers were most likely armed with standard firearms. While guns didn't really do much to Chiaotzu due to his extensive training, they would still be a nuisance. Plus, there was no telling what else might be down there. If the Red Ribbon Army thought there was a Dragon Ball in the village, they wouldn't be taking any unnecessary risks. Making his decision, Chiaotzu raced toward the village, a resounding boom filling the skies as he moved at superhuman speed. It caught the attention of the soldiers who were rapidly becoming more visible as Chiaotzu closed in. Grey, fastidious, uniforms with that same, red, symbol over their breasts, they were definitely the Red Ribbon Army's thugs. They took aim, raising their guns and opening fire upon the small, flying, form. Chiaotzu moved quickly, dodging this way and that as he avoided the hail of bullets that came toward him. One of the vehicles, heavily armored and most likely built for transporting soldiers like the ones trying to shoot him out of the sky, stopped and a large cannon on its top whirred around to track him, Heavy thuds accompanied the cannon's shots, flame belching from the barrel each time. Rather than trying to hit Chiaotzu, the weapon's rounds exploded in the air. Soon the sky above the village was full of annoying explosions and Chiaotzu decided on his first target. Narrowing his eyes, he aimed toward the armored vehicle and pushed himself to fly at full speed. He became a blur, soaring through the air to slam into the side of the war machine, and then through it as he punched a hole in its reinforced frame. Exploding out the opposite side, Chiaotzu grabbed hold of the cannon barrel and ripped it from the APC, spinning about to throw it toward one of squads of soldiers. The destroyed remnants of the weapon crashed into the ground, tossing Red Ribbon goons this way and that from the force of its impact. The rest of the soldiers scrambled, trying to recover from the chaos of the sudden attack. Chiaotzu took advantage of that, zooming across the ground as he charged another group of armed minions. Raising his arms to point his palms toward them, Chiaotzu poured ki into the psychic attack, gathering up the bunch of soldiers in a telekinetic field before slamming them all together, dropping the squad in an unconscious pile on the ground before continuing on to the next.
