Mood Music Chapter 1: What am I? "I've given up on trying to fit in with humans. I am nothing like them. I am...a monster." The cloudless night sky above Gatz's Haven did nothing to drown out the light from its futuristic buildings and signs, nearly obscuring the light of the stars themselves. It was as if the sky was in reverse, with the moon, looming over the city like a massive eye, being the only sign that it was still nighttime. Standing on a billboard overlooking one of many intersections was an alien life form known only to those he'd met as G-EX. He had been up there for some time, thinking about all of what he'd done on Earth. The people he'd met, the choices he'd made. The more he thought about it, the more he realized that he had barely changed from what he was before. He still lost himself to the beast dwelling within, the pure manifestation of his berserk rage. His head turned to his right, and he grimaced at the reflection of himself in the glass of a dome beside him. His own image stared back at him, the humanoid beast wearing a suit that represented heroes on his home planet. How ironic. "I'm sorry, mother. I became the very thing you feared I would become. I wasn't even able...to protect you all." He felt weak. He could no longer stand on his own. The extraterrestrial sat down heavily, unable to find the strength to stand up again. His arm swung wildly, smashing into the electric billboard against his back, cracks spreading along its glassy surface and sparks falling around him. "I let my rage get the best of me. I..." His voice cracked, and he was left unable to speak any longer, contented to curl up and weep softly for the lives lost to his madness. His thoughts rang out like a bell in his mind, as if they were not even his own, Nobody can control this. In exchange for the power I've been given...I was drowned in rage. I am a beast, an animal, a demon. I am not even recognizable by my own kind any more. How could I hope to fit in with human life? All I can do... is lose myself. EX's head snapped up suddenly as he accepted this as truth, his eyes filled with nothing but darkness. He was, and always would be, the bringer of Death G-EX slowly stood up from where he sat, wiping away the tears staining his cheeks with an arm. As he brought his arm down, he heard the unmistakable whir of a charging energy weapon in the distance. He turned towards the sound immediately, narrowing his eyes through the glare of a hundred neon lights to see...nothing. Was that just in his head? Then it all happened at once. A large explosion coming from the inside of a garage door about five blocks away, an armored truck, obviously built to survive even tank fire, flying out of the newly created hole, and a bunch of civilians trapped or crushed under rubble. Before the armored vehicle even touched the ground, G-EX had left his spot on the billboard, his body moving of its own accord. Maybe I am Death himself, but I will not allow innocent people to die any longer without punishment! The five men in the armored truck were all whooping and yee-hawing as they did donuts in the middle of the ruined street, nearly crushing the already downed civilians with their skidding tires. They stopped for a moment, and the driver turned back to the others and raised his weapon, "So, who's up for a little bit of murder?!" The other four men shouted their assent, and the driver yelled like a barbarian, pointing his energy pistol at one of the people trapped under the rubble, a woman with her legs crushed and backed up against a wall. Smiling like a psychopath, he pulled the trigger, a small ball of energy, deadly to any normal human, flew towards the woman. Before it could even get close, though, G-EX stood in front of the woman and grabbed the blast, crushing it in his hand without a second thought. "EEEH?!" But before they could do anything about it, G-EX turned around and lifted the rubble from the woman's legs, careful not to hurt her any further than she already was. He continued to do the same with the others, happy that, at least, not too many were harmed. A total of three badly hurt, and one dead. G-EX clenched his fists in anger, the mask hidden within his helmet sliding over his face as he turned to the armored vehicle, his eyes glowing with the rage of a thousand stars. "BLAST THIS GUY!!" The driver yelled at the man in the middle back seat, a scruffy man with a large, red beard, "AYE!" The man climbed up into a turret on the top of the truck, swinging the gun around to point it behind them, at G-EX. The alien stood there, completely still aside from his shaking fists, as the gun fired rapidly, spraying him with an energy volley that could rip through buildings with ease. It was absolutely nothing to G-EX. He walked forwards, the blue glow in his eyes slowly turning to red as he allowed rage to consume him. The energy blasts exploded against his body, but he got so close that the gun couldn't even shoot him anymore without damaging the truck. "TH-THROW THE EXPLOSIVES!" The driver yelled as he revved up the engine. The gunner jumped back in the truck and grabbed grenades and sticky bombs along with the others, tossing them out the window at their attacker. The armored truck drove off, and a massive explosion followed behind them. G-EX was thrown up into the air, going completely limp as thoughts rushed through his head. What am I doing? Throwing myself in the middle of this conflict between humans... for what? I owe them nothing. Am I really willing to go so far...? His eyes snapped open, filled with nothing but the inky black sky dotted with tiny, bright stars, That's right. I said I wouldn't let innocents die anymore. But can I deliver on that promise? I am but a single man in a world not my own. His body seemed to move on its own, turning in midair until his face was pointed towards the ground, and he shot down towards it, speeding between the smoke so fast that it cleared the black smog away, revealing his bright, glowing eyes, Perhaps it doesn't matter where I am. There is always some good that can be done. ![]() "Hah! That'll show 'im!" Those were the last words that came from that driver as he was yanked out of the car by a powerful arm and tossed into the side of a building, breaking nearly every bone in his body, probably even killing him. He didn't care. Right now, all that was going through his mind were the thoughts of an animal, filled with righteous anger. The faces of those crushed in the rubble, either unable to move or dead, flashed before his eyes as he jumped in through the broken window, grabbing the man in the passenger seat and smashing his head against the bulletproof window so hard it shattered, leaving his limp body hanging out as the armored truck veered heavily on the road. G-EX's eyes slowly turned to the backseat men, their red, murderous glow causing them to visibly shudder. They had no weapons that would work from such a close range, not that they thought any weapons could stop this man. His rage fueled his actions, grabbing the man in the middle and thrusting him through the front windshield, where he was then run over by the massive armored vehicle. "You thought you could murder indiscriminately, taking lives left an right wherever you pleased?! I cannot allow this!" The man on the right yelped, scared so badly that he opened the door and tried to jump out of the out of control truck, not seeing that the right side was just about to slam into a metal wall. The poor man was flattened by a truck and a hard place, becoming a repenting pancake splattered along the wall. The last man left, a younger man who was streaming with tears and scared so stiff that he wasn't even blinking. In the back of his head, G-EX wanted to let him go. However, the berserk rage brought out in him wasn't allowing that. His hand shot forwards, burying itself in the man's chest until his heart stopped beating. It's not enough. It's never enough... G-EX walked out of the truck, blood on his hands and his suit, wobbling uncertainly. He collapsed onto his knees, clutching his head as his eyes flickered between blue and red, his mind filled with screeching of those victims and many others. Then he heard a crying voice, louder than the others. It hurt his ears. It was too damn annoying. He groaned and stood up slowly, his eyes widening until he saw it, a small shadow not too far away. All he had to do was go over there and kill the thing, and it would stop the deafening wails. G-EX crouched as if on a hunt, and was at the thing in seconds, grabbing it and lifting it up to his face, growling as he clenched his hands around a neck... "STOOOOP!!!!" G-EX blinked, the glow slowly fading as the sound of a mother's call broke through the self-made illusion, and he saw what was truly in front of him. A little girl, her throat clenched within his bloodied hands. Without thinking, he dropped her, wincing as she hit the concrete sidewalk. Before he even fully took in the scene, G-EX knew what had happened. He vanished from sight, running as far away as he could until he collapsed on a roof several blocks away, curling up and slamming his fist into the ground, "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!"
