The sun was at its highest point in the sky, it's rays of light beating down relentlessly in the arid desert. Adonis had been traveling on his own ever since he had left Jocelyn's birthday party, he was one who preferred to travel whenever the opportunity presented itself. As he continued wandering up a winding path, the snow haired swordsman soon found himself before a massive wooden gate. It was situated in between two massive stone peaks, making it the only viable entrance to continue on forward unless you felt like scaling a mountain. Adonis raised and eyebrow as he looked up, it was about 40 feet high, tall enough to stop most things from going forward. "Hey you! Freeze or I will fire!" A gruff voice called out to the right side, Adonis turning his gaze to see who the voice belonged to. There was a makeshift tower, it was composed of wood and straw, though it was stationed high with the trees. On the top platform, there was a man with a bow, an arrow knocked and readily aimed at the crimson cloaked swordsman. "This place isn't for strangers! Turn back now or I will shoot you where you stand!" Adonis simply smirked and placed his right hand onto the massive wooden gate, the man pulling the string on the bow back farther. "Get away from there! I will really fire you idiot!" Adonis could hear the shaky voice call out, though he cared little, there was no way in hell an arrow was going to do harm to him. Planting his feet into the ground, Adonis began to walk forward, the massive wooden gate creaking under the force before slowly lifting off the ground. The bowman stared in astonishment as Adonis pushed the gate open with his right hand, he continued to move, holding it over his head before allowing it to drop and swing back into place with a heavy thud. On the other side of the gate, there were dozens of men, each armed with spears and farm equipment, each of them with a terrified expression. "W-what are you!? Some sort of demon...?" One of the older looking males asked as the group stared at Adonis, he brought his hands up, dusting them off. "Just a traveler. The gate was in my way so I pushed it open." Adonis then started moving forward, the villagers moving back as he approached the group, each of them seemed to be frozen. Adonis was confused, he had run into thugs and people that were armed before but they attacked without hesitation, what was the deal with these people. "You're not human are you? No man has that kind of strength mister." One of the other males asked, he had a distinctive scar on his left cheek, it was carved in an "X" pattern. "Correct. Though I'm no demon either. I'm just making my way through the mountains until something catches my interest." The man looked to the others beside him before lowering his weapon and placing the blade of the spear into the soil below. The others saw his action and slowly but surely, all mimicked him, for now it looked like they saw Adonis as neutral, not a threat. "Well, you won't get anything more interesting then our situation sir. Trust me." Adonis smirked before looking to the male and bringing his left hand up, gently cupping his own chin in thought. "Oh? Well then, why don't you tell me what's going on." The males nodded in agreement as they invited Adonis further into the camp, as Adonis followed, he took note of the surroundings. The trees around the area were scarred from battle, there were bloodstains and from the scent of things, corpses. After a moment of walking, Adonis and the legion of men were seated around a fire, there were tents and several more legions of men walking about. They were training and some of them were badly wounded, there was no doubt about it, there was a horrible fight that took place. Adonis was snapped from his examination as one of the males offered him a drink, he wasn't one to deny a chance to relax and took the pint, taking a swig. "Alright, you'll think we're crazy or something but we've been attacked by...things that come from the mist." Adonis raised an eyebrow, looking at the other men, they lowered their heads and eyes, unable to look at the swordsman as he was told the situation. "Things? What kinds of things might you be talking about?" Adonis asked in an interested manner, bringing both hands up and resting his chin atop both of them. "Unholy things. They were men but now they're different. Twisted and broken, all of them lifeless. No matter how many times you stab them, they don't go down unless you take their damn heads off..." Adonis chuckled softly as he heard the claim, shaking his head in response as he listened. "Well, it sounds like you and your men have been putting the ale back too much." The leader of the group growled and stood up from his seat, clenching both fists as he looked to Adonis. "It's no damn joke! The damn mountain is haunted and every night we're invaded by these monsters! We're so far out that the damn Kings Guard won't even come to help us!" Adonis looked to the other men, all of them were terrified, demoralized and they were on edge. He was skeptical, he refused to believe they were being invaded by some un-dead but judging by their faces, something was definitely going on. "That's why we need you. You've got some strength and with that sword on your back, you can probably handle yourself, right stranger?" Adonis' icy blue eyes traced over the group, his irises almost glowing thanks to the bright fire. "I'm the best. However, don't expect me to work for free. If your story is true, I'll fight for you. It's not often one is able to enter the heat of battle with monsters." Adonis agreed to help the men out, it was by no means out of the goodness of his heart but it was definitely an interesting encounter to say the least. "Of course! We'll pay you whatever you want after! We're just glad to have some muscle on our side for once, those bastards won't see you coming!" Adonis chuckled and nodded, his eyes looking up to the sky. The sun was still in its highest point in the sky, there was some time before this supposed battle. "Feel free to do as you like mister. If you want a drink, we've got a makeshift tavern. If you want to relax, we'll give you a tent and a bed roll." Adonis stood up in place. "Adonis. The name's Adonis. I'll be ready no matter the situation, make sure your men are prepared and tell them to stay out of my way." WC: 1160 |
