With the resurrection of the Ox Kingdom, there has been a lot buzz generated from all corners of the Earth. Curiosity and intrigue have taken over Fire Mountain and with the crowning of the new ruler, Queen Chi-Chi, interest has only skyrocketed. And after much deliberation, the son of Queen Chi-Chi, Prince Gohan has declared a grand Martial Arts tournament (accompanied by a grander feast) to be hosted in the Ox Kingdom to celebrate the rebirth of the long lost realm.

Of course those closest to Gohan have been given an open invitation to take part in the tournament but Gohan has also sent out the same gesture to those he has come across in his life. From family to friends to his students to even those who he has come acquainted with and are in good standings with the saiyan hybrid have all been given the opportunity to join the tournament.

Gohan was not one for giving big long speeches nor one to sit on a stiff throne watching others compete in a competitive hand to hand combat spectacle but according to Hamilton who had convinced Gohan to host such a tournament between family, friends and close allies, the saiyan hybrid had to consider other things. For instance now that the Ox Kingdom was once again established and in the public eye, it was time to build off that and the best way Hamilton believed to take off strong was to bring the kingdom from the edges of the village to the very throne where Gohan's mother, Chi-Chi, the newly crowned Ox Queen, sat together. And when it came to doing such a thing in any royal realm, the go-to option was always a gigantic feast attached to a fierce but friendly combat. Plus Hamilton did promise that Gohan could face the winner of the tournament if the victor so chose to. So there was that.

Truthfully, on the day the Ox Kingdom Grand Tournament was to commence, Gohan had been surprised by the turnout. The entire Ox Village showed up as well as many travelers from all over the world. Gohan was also quite impressed with who had signed up for the tournament. The names that Hamilton had given him had been read by Gohan ten times over. "Someone in the Son Family has to hold the fort and command the stage", Hamilton had told him. After looking at the list of participants, Gohan saw why Hamilton had been hammering into him to not to participate in the tournament. It seemed there was no such restrictions for the rest of his family. For not only was his father, Goku and his younger brother, Goten on the list, but so was his mother. That was quite the intriguing find. The last time Gohan could recall that his mother took part in any sort of martial arts tournament, Gohan wasn't even born yet.

Family aside, there was also some familiar names who were like extended family to him. Names like Bulla, Vegeta's daughter. Out of all the Briefs family members, Bulla was the last person Gohan would pin down as a fighter, yet it seemed the royal saiyan blood was flowing deep in that girl. There was also Chiaotzu and Krillin. Two more individuals who Gohan who was glad to see on the list.

As for real extended family, two names stuck out to him. Gine and Bardock. His Grandma and Grandpa on his father's side. A side of the family that Gohan did not know existed til recently. He had only met Gine once before when he had stopped her from attacking his daughter, Pan over a misunderstanding. As for Bardock, Gohan had heard stories and whispers but he never got the chance to meet the man. The tournament would be such a interesting opportunity to say the least.

As for the rest of the participants, there was Harmon, Gohan's Namekian friend, who Gohan had convinced to join up for two reasons. One so Harmon could test himself against some of the best fighters Gohan knew and to be a proxy for Gohan himself. After all if Gohan could not compete in the full tournament, least Harmon could, who had taken the young Namekian under his wing upon Mister Piccolo's request. If only Piccolo had joined the tournament but Gohan had not seen his friend in such a long time. But that was a story for another time.

There was Nyx. The young alien who had bested Gohan in the World Martial Arts Tournament that year in the first round due to Gohan's reluctance to go all out against her. Something he still didn't regret. The safety of the spectators was more important to him than winning that tournament. He knew he could have won without much problem but he was not going to bend over backwards to do so. He just hoped there wouldn't be such a situation arising in the Ox Kingdom during its tournament.

Then there were three of Gohan's former students. Daci, Blake Star and Izuku. All happily to sign up to both impress their martial arts mentor and to prove that what Gohan had thought them was more than enough to bring them success as a fighter. Gohan had to admit he never thought the tournament would give him the chance to see how far along his students had come since they sought him out and ask for his guidance all that time ago.

The last name on the list was Byakushiki. A strange individual to say the least. A bit quirky at times as well. Truthfully Gohan did not know how to read the woman...or women...he still wasn't quite sure how that went. The closest Gohan could compare the young blonde witch to was to Launch. But even still, Gohan wouldn't exactly put the two in the same category. However, Byaku was someone Gohan had met many times before over the course of his own training and travels, and the two were decent enough friends. So he saw no problem in her participating in the tournament.

After Hamilton had greeted all those who came to watch and feast in the Ox Kingdom for the next week, Gohan quickly rose to his own feet. The crowd cheering and applauding the Ox Prince. It was clear they were excited for all the festivities to begin and so was Gohan. However before anything could begin. There was a speech to be made. Something Gohan had been mauling over for days. But after taking a deep breath, Gohan cleared his throat and waved to the crowd, starting the opening ceremony.

"First off, I would like to thank each and everyone of you for being here. Whether you are here to compete or simply spectate or perhaps even a little bit of both, it is truly a wonderful sight to see you all here. I do not want to waste too much time as like all of you I too am looking forward to what this tournament has in store. I must admit I'm quite excited actually. But before we move on with the fun and festivities, I would like to explain how this tournament will work."

Gohan signaled for Hamilton who quickly proceeded to roll out a big board similar to the ones they used every year at the World Martial Arts Tournament. The board was split into two. On the left side of board written in fine elegant lettering was the name of the fourteen participants separated into two groups of seven with 6 rounds of matchups for each group. On the right side of the board was a empty tournament bracket. Eight slots needed to be filled.

The crowd oohed and ahh'ed, causing Gohan to smile before pointing at the board.

"As you can all see. Here are the fourteen names of the fourteen participants of the Ox Kingdom Grand Tournament. You may been quite familiar with some of the names and some of them you may not know at all but I can assure you, that the fourteen names on here are names you will appreciate when it all is said and done." The crowd clapped in response as Gohan frowned slightly at what he was going to say next, slightly disappointed, "Unfortunately, my name is not among the participants...but fear not, as the host of this tournament I decree that whoever ends up victorious in this tournament will earn the chance to further improve his or her fame and fortune in the eyes of the Ox Kingdom. For the victor of this tournament will have the opportunity of squaring off against me one on one in front of the entire village!"

That seemed to lift the audience's spirits as well as his own as Gohan frowned turned upside down, beaming with pride.

"Now the tournament itself is simple. There will be two stages. The first stage will be a group stage. For as you can see we have split the fourteen participants into two groups of seven. The seven competitors in will compete within their respective group in a single round robin one on one tournament. All the bouts will have a ten minute time limit where victory will be declared either by a knockout or by the participant who landed the most successful blows in the fight. When the group stage matches have all officially ended, the four competitors in each group with the best win-lose records will move on to the second stage. Which will be an eight person single elimination tournament. Those bouts will not have a time limit and the only way to win is by knockout to ensure that whoever wins does so without any controversy. For this is a tournament of honor and dignity. To celebrate the joyous resurrection of the Ox Kingdom and help usher in a new era of this wonderful realm."

Again the crowd erupted in a mighty roar of cheers and applause. Gohan smiled bigger as he nodded in approval.

"So without any further ado, let's get this tournament started shall we?" Gohan turned his head and looked toward Hamilton who took his cue and stepped forward.

"Ladies and gentlemen, citizens of the Ox Kingdom and fellow travelers alike, the Ox Kingdom Grand Tournament hosted by our gracious Prince Gohan is officially under way. So please, head into the tournament arena, find your seats. Food and drinks will be served once every one has been ushered in. For like Prince Gohan has just stated, this tournament is about celebrating the rebirth of this glorious kingdom, remembering where we came from and where we will be going."

Hamilton seemed pleased with what he had to add to things as he turned on his heels and headed inside the arena, leading the charge as the massive crowd mixed of both Ox Kingdom natives and foreign travelers followed his step. Gohan could barely count the heads of them all but he was sure there was at least a thousand people there. Quite a turnout for such a small realm in his books. Add the fact that he managed to get fourteen martial artists to sign up for the tournament, just two shy of sixteen, the common number of participants each year in the World Martial Arts Tournament, and Gohan could already feel that the tournament of his was a success. Perhaps Hamilton had been right to suggest such a thing to Gohan, convincing the saiyan hybrid to host one as soon as possible.

The only regret Gohan had was not fighting hard enough to be put in the entire tournament himself but Hamilton believed that someone from the royal Ox family needed to sit out and stand at the head of the table, just in case things arose. Mostly Gohan was suppose to be a symbol for the people as much as the tournament itself. Least Gohan was able to face the champion of the tournament, hopefully.

Gohan soon followed after Hamilton and the crowd. For one that day he was a fan as well.
