DRAGON: Caminth
DRAGON AGE: 4 Turn
DRAGON APPEARANCE: 35 feet at full growth. He is rather a perfect shade between gold and brown, suitable for a Bronze which lies between both such colors, with a typical metallic sheen.
DRAGON PERSONALITY: Clumsy, Friendly, Noble, Competitive

Caminth knows how to act like your typical Bronze, and tends to for the most part. When he isn't moving, he has a distinctly noble air about him and is always on his best behavior; polite and quite eloquent when he speaks. However, he is embarrassingly clumsy on the ground. His tail knocks things over and breaks anything that can be broken, he trips over stones and bumps in the ground and his own feet. He much prefers to lie still and look like a proper Bronze and tends to try to move as little as possible when he cannot fly, for luckily his clumsiness does not translate into his flight. While he certainly not at all graceful or agile in the air, he is pretty fast for a Bronze while still retaining most of the typical Bronze endurance. He is quite friendly and has no qualms about speaking with others besides his rider. However he does have a competitive streak. Challenge him and he cannot stand to back down. He has a driving need to take on anything thrown at him and to come out on top.

APPEARANCE: Like his mother, Kyzen is short (for his age) and skinny, his limbs long. His hair is neat, short and smooth, and shares the same dark brown color as his mother’s long locks. His eyes are brown and his mother says he must have got them from his father. He is generally a bit dirty, in the way of young boys and especially mischievous ones like him and more often than not has scrapes and bruises from rough play and adventures.

EDUCATION/SKILLS: He can read a little but is horrible at writing, though he might manage to scratch something out it would likely be illegible. He actually likes figuring, finding it to be challenging and even fun. He is skilled at puzzle solving, having a natural affinity for such things that challenge his curious mind.

PERSONALITY: Kyzen is quite the rebellious little thing. He rarely listens to a thing he’s told and likes to play pranks, especially on those that try to control him or tell him what to do. He’s very sneaky and often whisks himself away in the shadows when no one’s paying attention to go off and have his own little solo adventures, leaving his caretakers to worry after him with no idea where he’s gone. He’s very mouthy and stubborn and doesn’t quite care who he offends or backtalks. He hates being treated like a child and is not afraid to make his annoyance plain to anyone who would treat him in such a manner. He tends to be fairly apathetic about most matters, which can make him frustrating to be around.

He tends to show incredible ingenuity and cleverness in the pranks he pulls and as an escape artist. It seems he is quite intelligent, even if he often acts differently. He is good at solving puzzles, enigmas, problems in general, and enjoys it. He is very curious and quite fearless in his adventures and explorations. He likes to learn and discover new things, which is generally what spurs his adventures in the first place. He can be incredibly witty which can be amusing, though it often turns into sarcasm and scorn. He is very independent, which can be taken as good or bad, depending on the situation. He is very blunt and doesn’t sugarcoat his words; he’ll say what he means and doesn’t care how people might take it. If you want the truth you can be sure to get it from Kyzen, though, afterwards, you might decide you didn’t want the truth after all.

Learning from a Harper is boring and in his mind, the lazy way to go about it. He’d much rather figure things out for himself; the journey to attain knowledge is sometimes more important than the knowledge itself. He has, therefore, skipped out on most his Harper lessons in favor finding his own way. Where’s the fun in having someone just tell you how everything works? Using your own brain, figuring it out yourself, is much more rewarding. He is incredibly good at ignoring things that inconvenience him. Headstrong and stubborn to the end, Kyzen’s willpower is a rather surprising force to be reckoned with for one so young. He will rarely back down from any challenge.

HISTORY: Kyzen was born at Equinox to a weyrmated pair, a greenrider and a bronzerider. He was their third child after an older brother and sister, a second son. Like most children born to riders he was given to the crèche to raise after he was off his mother’s milk. His brother and sister were also in the crèche at the time and they both took to helping look after their little brother. Jyrozel was always there to soothe him when he got hurt and Zelon liked to give him piggyback rides and carry him around the Weyr, pretending he was a dragon and his little brother was his rider. Kyzen loved this game the best of all and it could always put him in a good mood no matter what had just happened. Their mother visited them often and they even saw their father every now and then, though he seemed more duty-bound than their mother and his visits were sparse.

When he was 4 and Zelon 12, Zelon began his candidacy, dreaming of riding bronze like their father, like most boys do. His candidate duties kept him away a lot and Kyzen very much missed their dragon and rider game. He withdrew a little, though he would still talk to Jyrozel sometimes and she would still help him when he got hurt. She was beginning to spend more time with other girls her age and Kyzen took to doing things on his own most days. Only two turns later Jyrozel was sent to the Healer Hall to be apprenticed. She had been known to help out in the infirmary and apparently showed some skill at the basics of the craft. Kyzen about decided he didn’t need anyone anyway and started to enjoy his solo explorations of the Weyr, finding things out on his own became rather exciting as a way to pass the time, especially when harper lessons were so boring.

His father died when he was 7, taken by Thread, his dragon winking them Between in attempt to save his rider and never reappearing. His mother was crushed, and hurting, turned to her youngest son for comfort. She spent more time with him, took him for rides on her Green, and though Kyzen sometimes enjoyed their time together, other times she was simply stifling, smothering him with the love she would otherwise have spent on his father. It was shortly after his father’s death that his brother finally Impressed, though not to the bronze he had hoped for, but a Blue. He seemed happy all the same. Their mother cut ties with him, having apparently been trying to convince him not to Impress, to remain safely on the ground and away from Thread so he would not meet the same end as their father. He would hear none of it and his Impression was not a thing to be proud of in their mother’s eyes. It worried her to death, but she never spoke to him again.

Seeing Impression as a way to get his mother off his back, to be close to his brother again, and simply having grown up wanting a dragon, encouraged to this goal by his games with his brother which were some of his happiest memories so far, he told his mother one day he could not wait until he could start his candidacy. She flew off the handle and berated him for it, telling him he should not, could not Stand. She would not lose him too, but he simply retorted that it was his choice not hers and ran off. He went to his brother and his yearling blue and told him of his aspirations to be a rider like he was, like their mother and their father. Z’lon ruffled his hair and told him to do what his heart wanted him to do and not let anyone tell him otherwise, then had him help oil Weth, which he seemed to enjoy. Being in the presence of dragons was good enough for Kyzen, no matter what he was doing.

He often visited his brother after that, after he graduated from Weyrlinghood, helped him oil his dragon, received rides on the Blue’s back, and was happy that his mother seemed to have withdrawn from him. Whenever they spoke now it seemed the only thing she wanted to do was try to convince him not to become a rider. He avoided her by visiting Z’lon, who she would have no contact with. When Kyzen was 11, nearing candidate age, his mother transferred out to a different Weyr, much to his surprise. She never said a word to him about it, but it seemed she would not stay there and watch another son Stand, possibly Impress, and bring himself one step closer to a horrible end.

Kyzen began his candidacy as soon as he was old enough, putting his mother out of his mind. He was just old enough to stand at the last clutch, though he didn’t Impress, and is eagerly looking forward to the next. Though he does not shirk his candidate chores, he does often skip out on lessons. He has more than once been threatened with being barred from Standing if he does not attend his lessons, but he figures if his dragon is on the sands, he can Impress from the stands anyway, so he doesn’t really worry about it. Even if he was given a punishment to keep him away at Hatching day, he would make sure he was in the stands; he won’t let anything keep him from Impressing. So far he’s only received threats, it seems his hard work at his chores helps to balance out any lessons he skips, and he still makes sure to attend them on occasion. He figures he’ll learn everything he needs to know about being a rider after he becomes one, after all he’ll be a Weyrling rider for quite some time and that is a time of intense learning.
