![]() NAME: Z’kar RANK: Wingrider AGE IN TURNS: 23 FAMILY: Karlisa (mother, deceased), Zandon (father, traveling artist) ![]() DRAGON: Egreth DRAGON AGE: 4 Turn DRAGON APPEARANCE: 26 feet at full growth. Slim and perfectly proportionate. A dark, midnight blue. DRAGON PERSONALITY: Serious, Graceful, Vain, Haughty Egreth knows he is remarkable, handsome, beautiful, and in general better looking than any of his siblings. He will require his rider to bathe and oil him more often than necessary to better keep up his exceptional appearance. Some may take his obsessive vanity as a big joke but Egreth is never more serious than when it comes to appearances. He moves with what others might deem a ‘feminine’ grace; certainly he hardly seems awkward on the ground even when most other dragons do and in the sky he is a amazing to watch. He is likely to chase every Green simply for the chance to prove he is the best, rather than for any actual mating urges he might have. APPEARANCE: Zandikar always makes sure to look his best and is always dressed well and clean shaven. His dark brown hair is often styled in a variety of different manners, but always looks good no matter what look he’s shooting for. His eyes are a stormy blue for which he has often received compliments from the ladies. His complexion is on the pale side. He is tall, around 6 feet, and lightly muscled, leaning more toward lanky. He carries himself with an air of confidence that could rival any Lord Holder. EDUCATION/SKILLS: His mother attempted to give him some proper education but he never took to it. He can hardly write, hardly read, and even his math is minimal; enough to know about Marks and how to count, add, and subtract. The main focus of his education has always been art, his teacher being his own father. He has an amazing eye for detail and is observant to a point of being almost frightening with how much he can notice with a cursory glance. He has a near photographic memory, something he has trained with his father to accomplish not something he was born with. His skill with paint and brush is terrific and he has a wonderful knack for mixing colors just right. PERSONALITY: Zandikar has an eye for beauty and a vast appreciation for it as well. As an artist and the son of an artist, he is very detail oriented and a perfectionist, almost to the point of obsession. Everything must be just so or he finds it incredibly difficult to focus on anything else until he has righted whatever is ‘off’ to him. Appearances mean a great deal to Zandikar and he always makes sure to look his best. His mother often used to tease him when he was younger that he was worse than a woman about his looks. He tends to look down on those who do not take care of their outward appearances and can be a bit of a snob at times. Beauty is all important to Zandikar, in everything, and calling him shallow would not be far off the mark. Beauty is all he looks for in those he associates himself with. No matter how selfish, how stupid, how bratty, how two-faced another might be, they are welcome in his circle of friends so long as they look good. He is arrogant, he flaunts his talent and others curse him for having so much of it when he seems to otherwise not be worth the time of day to most. He is not afraid to offend and indeed seems to find amusement in doing so to those he sees as ‘lesser’ than himself. He is ambitious, desiring to hold a position over others that truly is ‘better’ than them rather than simply acting like it. He can be quite a kiss-up to those in authority positions in the hope that he might get on their good side and that they will end up doing something to raise his station. He at least is not malicious in his pursuit of power. He would never do anything to physically harm anyone to get ahead and if he ever did attain the power he wishes for, he would not use it to harm. He wants it to have it, to be answerable to the fewest people possible so he may do as he pleases without anyone getting on his back for anything. He is fiercely independent and hates being told what to do, but grudgingly obeys those of higher authority than him for rebels are not likely to be promoted to any higher rank. He has it in him to be pleasant, he can be quite the gentleman when he’s around a pretty girl and is never crude or perverse, but such moments are not the norm for our Zandikar. However, he isn’t one to be crude or perverse under any circumstances and about the Weyrs he might even be called a prude for he finds such talk distasteful. He isn’t at all opposed to sex with those pretty girls he meets, but doesn’t think it necessary to share such things with anyone else. He believes such talk should remain between you and your partner and has no desire to hear about anyone else’s exploits. All of his best qualities come out when he is painting. His passion, his patience, his creativity and imagination, his sense of fun and humor… and his secret dream. The main focus of his paintings tend to be dragons and his biggest desire is for one of his own. However, his father has never allowed him near one, never encouraged him in this dream for he believes, with the Pass coming to an end, dragonriding is no profession he wants for his son. He will be viewed as a parasite in a few short turns and he simply would not allow it. However, now that Zandikar is grown and his father can’t tell him what to do anymore, he is determined to Impress himself a dragon much to his father’s distaste. Zandiakar thoroughly enjoys painting, he would be happy to continue as an artist if he does not Impress a dragon but he at least wants the CHANCE to do so. He of course would prefer a Bronze but honestly isn’t picky about what color he might Impress, other than Greens anyway. He just can’t imagine himself on a flirty little Green… and all that comes with that. HISTORY: His father, Zandon, had been a traveling artist for some time, his mother fell in love with him upon one of his visits to Fort Hold and ran off to travel Pern with him. They were wed a short time later and soon enough Karlisa was pregnant. Zandikar isn’t exactly sure where he was born. His mother told him near High Reaches, but his father insists they were closer to Telgar. The pair was traveling with a band of traders, as they normally did, when Karlisa’s labor started. The band stopped long enough so she might welcome her son into the world before they all moved on with him and his mother tucked into the back of his father’s wagon. He grew up among traders with his father watching him closely for any sign he inherited his artistic skill. He would sometimes allow his son a little bit of his cheaper paints, the more common colors, and was often impressed with what his little son could come up with. Whenever they were stopped at a Hold for any amount of time, his mother always searched out a harper who might be willing to teach her son a thing or two while they were there. Zandikar was loathe to participate in harper lessons, however. He much preferred painting with his father. Zandon took him under his win in earnest when he was nine, impressed by the promise his son showed. He sold his first painting at a Gather when he was ten, a small thing, but rather impressive for his age. His mother had been so ecstatic for him, he’ll never forget that first sold painting, even if it does look like child’s play when compared with his work now. His mother died not a year later after catching ill. One thing his mother had instilled in him, from before he could even talk, was a love of dragons. All of his bedtime stories revolved around heroic riders and their dragons for she had once wished to be a rider herself, but had completely left that dream behind to run away with his father instead, at the age of 16. She had hoped that one day he might have the chance to be Searched and become a rider in her stead, but after she died his father forbid him from going near the ‘beasts’. He showed a disdain for dragons and their riders, fearful of losing his son to them. Zandikar simply decided against speaking of dragons with his father anymore, but he couldn’t keep them out of his art. His father tended to make as little comment on his dragon pieces as possible, which disheartened him some, but there were plenty of people at Gathers and such that admired his work enough to make up for his father’s lackluster appraisals. As he got older and his father allowed him to handle his own commissions, dragonriders often came to him to paint their dragons for them, much to his pleasure and his father’s annoyance. Now that he’s a man of his own, he does not feel obligated to obey his father any longer on the matter of dragons. During a recent visit to one of the northern holds he managed to be Searched for Equinox and told his father there and then that he was going. Dismayed, his father begged him not to. He had never heard the man beg for anything. But he simply responded saying that his mother would want him to go and the man, surprisingly, backed down and promised to stick around the Weyr to see if he would Impress, and would gladly take him back if he did not. |
