((This thread is open to all dragonriders involved in the Istan Threadfall. As of yet, no known word has reached Equinox, and the Weyr has been recovering in Ista for two weeks.)) “Are you sure you don’t need anything, sir?” The young woman asked as she finished wrapping the remains of T’iron’s leg. The dragonrider grunted a noncommittal reply. He needed his damned leg back, but telling his healer that wouldn’t make it happen. “I’m fine. Maybe another fellis tea.” “You know I can only give you that twice a day,” she replied. “And yet, I’m on my fourth.” The girl (was she even as old as Alein?) sighed. “I’ll get you your fifth, but you must be careful with them. They’re habit forming.” “I’m well aware.” The journeywoman rose from his side without another word, then left to find the brown rider his tea. The drink was bitter, but it did take the edge off of the pain. T’iron ever-so-slowly sank into the bed. Outside the infirmary, Chairoth rumbled. He disliked others tending to his wounds, but with a disabled lifemate, it would have to become the norm. Calm down, Chai. Let them change those bandages. I don’t like it. You don’t have to. But I can’t exactly climb up and put more salve on your wings, now can I? Hmph. I still don’t like it. At least if we were home, Alysha could do it. Aly’s barely well herself, heart. I’m sorry, but you and Talenth will have to have most of your caretaking done by others, soon. The brown snorted, and T’iron could hear it plainly from his room. He let out a slow, uneasy sigh. It had been two sevendays since the Threadstorm claimed most of their wing and those of Ista. He could only imagine how the island Weyr was coping, and wondered if word had been sent back home yet. They had lost their Weyrleader. While T’iron knew Sansath was young and would have other opportunities for another bronze at her next flight, it was a hard loss all the same. The brown rider had never really disliked D’mitri, and sympathized with his actions after Rielle’s death; he himself would likely do much the same when it came time to part with Alysha. And while many in the Weyr might have taken time learning to put their trust once more that flawed man, T’iron was quite aware of how well-liked D’mitri had become in recent months. His leadership of the High Wing had caused it to become an asset to many a Weyr, when the Falls had begun increasing in activity. Riders were growing tired of the fight, and with the Pass seeming to never end, it was D’mitri’s wing that had come out time and again to support the other Weyrs. After Turns of naysaying, it was through D’mitri’s work that Equinox was finally showing its worth to the rest of the world. And now, he was dead. And as much as T’iron knew his Weyrwoman disliked the man, he also know how heavy a blow this would be. D’mitri had won the hearts of the other Weyrs while Abrille had worked on those in the Holds. Without her other half, things would be tenuous until Sansath rose again. Even then, if the replacement was not as dedicated as Moroith’s rider had been… A flash of pain ran through T’iron, breaking his thoughts. Where was his fellis? |
