Fiona rolled her eyes. If she didn't want to seek revenge so badly she would have walked away.
"Why don't you just come out? I don't play games like this with my daughter."

A light appeared and grew at one part of the room nearby. "You're a real wet blanket, you know that?"

He stepped out and looked at her, holding a blazing torch in hand. He motioned to her feet. She stood in a large circle of gasoline, just like that one night several months before. A siren could be heard approaching not far away, just where the apartment was, then the sound quieted.

"Yes, I would assume you don't play games like this with a child." He grinned.

Fiona took a deep breath. She instinctivly took a step back. She made herself be brave. All she had to do was think of a way to attack without igniting the fire herself.

"You carry my child. Don't pretend--we know the truth." He grinned, dancing around the circle. Many times, the torch came dangerously close to touching the gas on the ground. But it did not ignite yet. "You're mine and you'll always be mine. Do you think you would still be alive if I didn't want you to live?" He threw his head back and laughed. "You underestimate me. That's the worst mistake you can make."

"You carry my baby. Now, reserve your 'pretend' for the fun and games--we know the truth." He grinned, dancing around the circle. Many times, the torch came dangerously close to touching the gas on the ground. But it did not ignite yet. "You're mine and you'll always be mine. Do you think you would still be alive if I didn't want you to live?" He threw his head back and laughed. "You underestimate me. That's the worst mistake--fatal."

Fiona glared at him. She was thinking of the escape routes. But with great effort get her breathing even and as calm as she could.
"You do not 'own' me. I'm a free spirit. I have been all my life. I simply choose to remain in one place. And the baby? You lost all rights the day crossed me. This baby is and always will be mine and Angelica's. You will stay away. Becuase it's not just me who would give anything to never see you again."

He smiled. "The old lady wants to face me down? I'm up for it. And I'm not afraid of what you think you will or won't do to me. There's always expectations. But in the course of one night, I changed your entire life. You'll never scrub me out, no matter how hard you try. Even if you kill me, I'll always be with you in here." He touched his heart mockingly, then laughed. "I'll take my leave now, because I don't want you to die anymore than you want to. There's still plenty of fun to be had later! I'll see you around. That's a promise."

And he dropped the torch.

Fire shot up from the floor around Fiona. The flames began to grow higher. The Joker backed away cackling, eyes closed and nearly shedding tears of laughter. He spun on his heel and ran from where they came, through the building and out the exit.

Fiona could feel herself starting to panic. Normally she would break down but that wasnt a option. No-one knew she was here, No-one would find her. Besides it wasn't just her life she had to consider. Her hand instictivly went to her stomach. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She had to concentrate. Her eyes didn't open again until she felt the first splashes of water on her face. And then she looked up and stayed looking up. The gray cloud above her got darker as the rain grew harder. The water started to dispell the flames until they were just little flicks here and there.

It was at that point she ran. As fast as she could, as far as she dared. Stopping she sank to the floor in a alleyway. Soaking wet from the rain and trying her hardest to hold things together. She let herself recover in the same position for a short while. She couldn't stay too long. She had to make sure Alex was alright before returning to Scarlett and Lauren. After a good ten mintues she made her way back to where she last saw Alex.

Alex had run back towards the school. But when he heard the siren, he had panicked and run back to the apartment to see his mother being lifted onto a stretcher--now in normal clothing--and wheeled to an ambulance. She had told him to stay there and wait for Fiona, that she would be fine. So now he waited, sitting on the steps of the building.

Fiona returned to the apartment. She saw Alex and gave him a sympthetic smile. She ignored the stares from passers by. Almost all were smart enough to ignore her. She was causing no trouble and no-one was willing to start any.
"Alex. Sweetie. Your safe, thank goodness."

He looked up and stood. "Are you okay?" he asked quickly. "Where's that man? Who was he?"

"A Very bad man. He calls himself the Joker. Promise me, if you ever see him again to never go near him. Just take you mum and run." Fiona said placing a hand on his shoulder.

He nodded quickly. "I promise, Fiona. Are you hurt?"

Fiona gave her head a shake and a smile.
"No sweetie. I'm completely fine. Your mum got shot in the shoulder. She's fine, it's just a bad flesh wound. I made sure she was ok. Would you like me to take you to the hospital?"

Fiona nodded.
"Hold on tight." She formed a cloud beneath her feet. She held her hd out to Alex.

He looked up at her. "She got shot," he said quietly.

"Yes, she did. She got shot in the shoulder. But it wasn't anything serious. She should make a full recovery."
