Chapter 10
A Better End

Fiona stood outside the door of the base, looking across at everything. "I need to tell Jane what he did. It's my duty," she said and stepped onto a cloud.

Fiona stood outside Jane's house. She'd been there at least once a week to see Alex for the past five years. She loved Alex as much as she loved Angelica and Selena, but today she wasn't there to see Alex. She couldn't bring herself to knock on the door. She just stood there, staring.

Alex had never been aware Fiona visited once a week, and Jane had no proof. It was then that Jane saw Fiona at the window and she knew what happened. She clutched the door handle and tears trickled down her face. For the first time, Alex possessed a father, but not anymore. She wiped the tears from her face, made sure it wasn't obvious she had been crying and strode outside.

Fiona stood and folded her arms. "Jane," she said monotonously.

Jane clenched her fists. "DON'T YOU SAY MY NAME!" she shouted. "The only father my son ever had, you dispicable CHILD!"

"So you know why I'm here, then? Did he also tell you he's been having a affair with you, and he's been making Angelica cheat?"

"...What?"

"Oh, yeah, this 'father' of Alex's, he had a wife and child. Now she's a widow with a kid. I can't have horrible people like him ruining people's lives."

"Don't you call him horrible!" Jane snapped. "You murder everyone you see! You are the definition of horrible."

"I did that once. Now I only kill the people who deserved it, and he deserved it! He tried to kill me! He lied and betrayed my friends and you, and he couldn't keep his hands off the women! I'm sorry Jane, but he deserved it!"

Jane clenched her fists. "You've caused trouble since you stepped foot in this damn city."

"I haven't got time for this. I have to get back. I just thought you deserved to know what that pig did." Fiona took a step backwards onto her cloud.

Jane was frustrated with everything in life. She ran back inside.

The Chief finally reached the helicopter. He jumped out of the car and enter the chopper. He had to admit, he would miss working with the V-Squad. It was then that he decided what to name his new company. He would call it the Hell Vipers.

Fiona landed outside the base and sighed. She walked in and went to find Angelica, preparing herself to deliver more bad news.

Angelica ran to Selena. "Oh, my daughter!"

Selena's eyes were wide. "Why is there a lot of people here? Mummy, are you crying?"

Angelica nodded. "Happy crying."

Fiona walked up behind Angelica and Selena. She waited silently.

"I won't ever let anyone take you," Angelica whispered to Selena.

Fiona cleared her throat as she watched.

Angelica nearly jumped out of her skin, paranoid. She looked up at Fiona and felt a sense of dread.

"Selena sweetheart, will you go play now? Me and mummy need to talk," Fiona said softly.

Selena nodded and went to her playroom.

The Chief arived at Grand Nixon to find his men cheering upon his return.

"Well, I'd say its time for a celebration party."

The mercs cheered again.

"Business is gonna be good!"

Angelica stood and took a deep breath.

Fiona walked up to Angelica and looked to the floor.

"Angelica, I've been thinking, and I'm going to leave. I just can't sit back and wonder any longer if you're going to cheat on me again. I'm so sorry." Tears filled her eyes. "This is nothing to do with Selena, so I'll come see her a minimum of twice a week. I'm going to go pack and I'll be gone by tonight." It was the hardest thing she'd ever had to say or do. She glanced at Angelica before she began walking away.

Just then, Angelica grabbed her wrist, but not tightly. Her face was screwed up in such a way that she looked like she was in pain. "Marry me."

Fiona felt her stomach flip and her heart start to race. She turned to look at Angelica. "Do you mean it?" she asked.

"Yes. I love you Fiona and I'm truly sorry for what I've done. Please, elope with me."

Fiona's heart raced more. She stood there, almost in shock, for what seemed an eternity. Finally, Fiona wrapped her arms around Angelica and kissed her. She couldn't even speak, she was so happy.

Angelica was grinning during the kiss. She wrapped her arms around Fiona's waist. Fiona smiled and hoped she never had to let go of Angelica and end the kiss.

Angelica did not end the kiss.

Fiona finally pulled away, smiling wider than she'd ever smiled. "Yes."

Angelica happy-cried for the first time in front of Fiona.

Fiona smiled and giggled. She kissed Angelica again.

Fiona gave another wide smile.

“Yes, let's. I'll go help Selena pack, then I'll come help you.” Fiona's happiness could clearly be seen, and right at that moment she was the happiest they had ever been.

Angelica nodded and went to her room to pack.

The mercs on Grand Nixon celebrated the formation of the new company. It was a night of booze and cigars. The Chief, of course, did not smoke, and didn't drink anymore, but he celebrated nonetheless.

As the party began to quiet down, a flag depicting a snake wrapped around a knife was raised high. This flag marked the rise of the Hell Vipers.

The Chief sat at his desk, smiling. This was the life. He was his own boss, and he got paid to kill people. No more taking orders from villains like Deathstroke or Angelica. Yeah, this was freaking paradise.

Fiona walked to Selena's playroom. She gently knocked on the door before walking in. “Selena," she said with a smile.

Selena looked up from the picture book and grinned widely, for she had just realized her mummy was back. She ran up to Fiona and jumped into her arms.

Fiona hugged her tight, but not so much that she hurt her. "Hello, there. I see you missed me then," she said, giggling. "Will you come help me with something special?" she whispered.

Selena nodded.

Fiona smiled and carried Selena to her bedroom. She grabbed a small suitcase from the top of her closet and put it on the bed--all with one arm, as the other held Selena.

"We're going on a special little holiday and I want you to help me pack all your things," Fiona said, still smiling.

Selena gasped with excitement. "Really?! What should I pack? My baby doll? Doll house? Book?"

"Clothes and a few of your favorite toys. I'm going to buy you a very pretty new outfit when we get to wherever we're going."

"But where are we going?"

Fiona smiled. "I don't know, sweetheart. You have to ask your other mummy."

"Okay." Selena started packing.

Fiona helped and soon they were done. She shut the case and smiled. "Let's go see if your other mommy's finished packing."

Selena sped to Angelica's room.

Fiona followed, smiling. She held Selena's suitcase in one hand and put it down by the door. "Are you done?" she asked Angelica.

Angelica nodded, holding up a black leather suitcase.

"Mummy, where are we going?" Selena asked her.

"You'll see."

Fiona giggled. "Don't I get to know?"

Angelica grinned and whispered in Fiona's ear, "Britain. Pick a country."

Fiona's eyes went wide. "Seriously?" she asked with an excited squeal.

Angelica laughed. "Sure. You've not been there in years."

"Oh, Angelica!" Fiona exclaimed, hugging her.

Angelica laughed and hugged back. "But which country do you want to go?"

Fiona thought for a moment. "I really don't care. Just surprise me," she said with a smile.

Angelica nodded. Of course she picked England, the country where Fiona was born.

Back on Grand Nixon, things were getting even better. The Chief had finished hiring construction workers and equipment. Within two weeks he would have a proper HQ, one made of concrete rather than a collection of tents and huts. These camps would still serve as listening posts and recon stations, but all other important tasks would be moved to the HQ. The workers would arrive the next day, but until then the only thing to do was wait.

After Fiona wrote a note informing the rest of the team they were 'on vacation', they left for England, where they married with Selena as there flower girl. Things were better between Angelica and Fiona after that. There was the occasional fight, but that was the norm.

One month later Fiona was just getting ready to go out for the day with Selena when she passed the main computer room, where she heard two voices emitting from it. Angelica's and one she didn't recognize at first.

Angelica sounded annoyed. "Excuse me, but I don't allow just anyone to join my team."

The second voice, an unfamiliar male, said, "If you will let me join, you won't be sorry. I will be a nice addition to your team."

Fiona knocked on the door and walked in.

"I just wanted to let you know I was leaving now and I'd be back soon," she said and looked across at the unfamiliar male. She smiled. "Oh, hello. Why do I feel like I know you?" She was getting prepared to ignore all of Angelica's upcoming protests.

"No doubt you've seen me on the news," he replied. "Causing distruction." He grinned evilly and turned back to Angelica. "So, how about it."

"I said no."

He smiled. "I know your greatest enemy."

Fiona smiled and walked up to him. "I know you from somewhere other than the news, as I don't watch it." Her smile widened as she remembered where she knew him from. "And I believe I know who you're talking about, but she's my greatest enemy--not Angelica's. Oh, and welcome to the team, Jason."

"What?!" Angelica said incredulously. "We don't know this man from anywhere!"

Fiona looked at Angelica. "The last time we all trusted your judgement and ignored mine, you all nearly got arrested and I nearly died. Besides, you may not know him, but I know him." She grinned and looked at Jason. "Come with me, Jason, and I'll find you a room and we can talk about what your intentions are for Jane and Alex."

"Hey, it's not like I trusted Lucas," Angelica protested. "I just didn't know what else to do but walk in."

Fiona smiled. "You'll tell me anything, Angelica." She teased. She put her lips near Jason's ear and whispered, "Don't worry about her. She'll get over it."

Angelica walked off, grumbling.

Fiona giggled. "Don't worry, Jason. She always like that at first."

There was a knock on the door. Fiona opened it to see one of the Chief's mercenaries.

"Kerensky sends his regards. He apologizes for the late wedding gift." He handed her a suitcase full of cash and then walked off.
