What got me hooked on DW & SW was this basic concept: One man vs. an entire army in a free-roaming environment with swarms of peon soldiers waiting to be annihilated. All Koei had to do for me was to find creative ways to help me enjoy that. They continue to do that, so I continue to buy! Obvious extra features (beyond the basic concept above) that I enjoy are the leveling of characters, weapon upgrades, learning of skills and mission requirements. This may be a small addition, but I really enjoy the Interim Save feature. I don't have a lot of spare time, so I can't stand games that require you to complete the entire mission/stage/etc. before you get a chance to save. SW2 is by far my favorite game since it incorporates all of these. Soon though, WO will become my favorite since in addition to making improvements in these areas, it takes it a step further & makes tweaks in other areas of gameplay: 3-man team instead of bodyguards (trying to max them grew tiresome), incorporating the old double musou within the team to create musou burst, adding character types (sp, tech, pwr) to go along with moveset types. For those who complain about KOEI & their games don't take the time to notice these subtle tweaks to that same simple concept. Someone mentioned this in another thread but EA does similar tweaks to its sports games, yet they are always rated highly, whereas KOEI gets the short end of the stick. But that belongs in another topic so I'll end it there. Sorry for the long post guys/gals. |
