His personality was well-defined, as opposed to his lack of one in SW 2. He actually had motivation to betray Nobunaga in the first game, whereas, he just plain didn't in the second one. And it didn't help that his VA sucked balls either. They really f*ed up one of my favorite characters. They also f*ed up my absolute favorite character, too, but that's another topic. Yes the voice acting was terrible but Koei are trying there best to better the SW series as we know it. What are your major concerns with Mitsuhide in the future.
