So, Huang Yue Ying. I pretty much loooove her character as it was presented in Dynasty Warriors 4. I think she's a wonderful addition to the cast, although there are some problems I have with her portrayal. This mostly come into play with her protrayal post DW4, specifically DW5.

In her own Musou Mode, the English translation repeated 'My husband' ad nauseum as her motivation for doing anything I wanted to kick the TV. Yue Ying's only action that wasn't compeltley motivated by Kongming was when she created the Juggernauts in Nan Zhong, and that's moot anyway since it was Kongming's campaign.

EDIT: Alright, I forgot about the scene in Wu Zhang Plains. That's an awesome scene, but I wish we had more of that - vocal belief in Shu's ideals alongside love for her husband.

Along with her (then) poor voice actress, there was a total lack of sincere emotion - it sounded, to be blunt, stepford wifeish. And that's scary considering she's arguably one of the most badass looking women in the game gameplay-wise. I'd love for her to acknowledge that she goes alongside her husband because she believes in Shu's ideals; whereas in DW5 it looks as though she's just going because Kongming is. (Her ending history summary alludes that they go as a couple, but her dialogue and narrative support the motivation of Kongming so much more.)

This is also a crying shame compared to the lines she recieved in DW4 - when she was defeated or killed, she would reference Kongming and that's understandable and sweet. When you're in danger of dying or dying, you're going to think of those people you leave behind and love. Otherwise, it appeared as though she joined because as an intelligent person, she joined Shu alongside her husband because she believed in them. I mean, the CG cutscene just before Wu Zhang Plains alluded to that enough.

My problems were sort of... addressed but not really in Musou Orochi. She had a clear little subplot going on and I adored that the big Shu guys bar Zhao Yun were out of the picture so she could get some screen time. Plus, while Kongming was clearly a sore situation for her, she fought with Shu anyway. Her faith in her husband is absolutely wonderful, but she also knew that she had to fight him in order to gain an explanation for what was going on. It's nice to see that sort of perception, and to see her interacting with other people (I love that they refer to her as 'My Lady').

Also, I ganked this from wiki -

Her "housewife" demeanor, which some deem inappropriate for a general, has led her to be criticized by some as being a forced character, for the sake of inserting a female character into Shu's ranks (since Shu was the only kingdom by Dynasty Warriors 3 not to have a female character).

Do you guys agree with this? I tend not to, mostly because Generals can have a large range of personalities and she possesses the traits to be one - motivation to fight and the skills to do so. I do find it funny that they mention her being housewifey mostly because looking at her outfit... she looks like she's wearing a big poofy dress with an apron (sort of). Clear Warrior-Maiden-Valkyrie inspired, but also like a wife in the kitchen.

I don't know, there's a rant for then (while at work). I hope she gets a good design for DW6.
