Story Chapters

Chapter 1 - Battle of Kuzegawa

Narrator: The legendary Serpent King Orochi descended from the heavens, and the world was transformed in an instant. Using his inhuman powers to warp time and space, he created a fusion between the Three Kingdoms era of China, and the Warring States period of Japan. He then tested his might against the heroes of these ages. Most of the great armies of these two periods fell to destruction before the might of Orochi. The news of the death of Cao Cao, Lord of Wei, was reported, and it was left to his son, Cao Pi, to take up the leadership of the clan. Hoping to control Wei himself, Orochi sent Da Ji, his strategist, to take the offer of an alliance to Cao Pi, which he accepted. Once this was signed, Da Ji employed Cao Pi to suppress any resistance to Orochi, in the name of maintaining law and order. Despite this, Cao Pi followed Da Ji's orders faithfully, never raising the slightest objection...

Aftermath Scene -

First Part -
Cao Pi: Have the proud officers of Wu sunk to this?

Huang Gai: Ha! You're one to talk, a slave to a snake! If I'm so pathetic, then come and finish me off!

Cao Pi: I am a compassionate man. You may go. But next time, think carefully about how you want to attack.

Huang Gai: You'll live to regret your arrogance... Next time you will feel my wrath!

Second Part -
Xu Zhu: Cao Pi... Forgive me, I was so hungry, I didn't know...

Cao Pi: Enough. From now on, you will work for me.

Xu Zhu: Hey, where's Lord Cao Cao? If he was here, he'd fix everything...

Cao Pi: You are a simple man, aren't you? You think a hero can heal all this? But simplicity does have a way of winning the people's hearts. Your philosophy has a place.

Chapter 2 - Battle of Tian Shui

Narrator: The forces of Wei, led by Cao Pi, continued to faithfully follow Da Ji's orders, wiping out pockets of resistance wherever they arose. At the same time, however, he carefully made sure that Orochi's strength was being slowly diminished, through the release of officers such as Huang Gai of the Resistance at Kuzegawa. When Tian Shui was attacked by the Resistance led by Nobunaga Oda, it was again Cao Pi who was sent to suppress the rebellion. Knowing that there was no strategical advantage in seizing Tian Shui, and still unsure of Nobunaga's motives, Cao Pi proceeded to the battlefield...

Prelude Scene -

Da Ji: Why would Nobunaga attack now? Do you have any idea?

Cao Pi: I wouldn't know...

Da Ji: We don't have any hostages he would want to free. Perhaps there's someone here he wants to speak with, hmm?

Cao Pi: I couldn't say.

Aftermath Scene -

First Part -
Random Character Comment:
Liu Bei: That man is a great leader where he hails from... What is your impression of him?
Xiahou Dun: So that is Nobunaga, the man who calls himself the Demon King... What do you think of him?
Xiaohou Yuan: So that's Nobunaga? Pretty mysterious guy, huh? Likes to keep to himself?
Zhang Liao: The man Nobunaga... There is something about him. What think you of him, my lord?
Sima Yi: So that is Nobunaga... Word of this man's name has spread quickly. Tell me, how do you perceive him?
Xu Huang: That is the man known as Nobunaga. What do you see in him, my lord?
Zhang He: My lord, what think you of that tall dark stranger they call Nobunaga?
Zhen Ji: So that is Nobunaga... Interesting, don't you think, my lord?
Cao Ren: I find the man they call Nobunaga somewhat disturbing in his calm composure. What is your impression, my lord?
Sun Jian: So this is the so-called Demon King... What do you make of him, Cao Pi?
Mitsunari Ishida: That is Nobunaga. What do you think?

Cao Pi: He is not concerned with the battle at hand. He is fighting in a different dimension. And his vision is combined with an overwhelming arrogance. He is a man to watch.

Random Character Response:
Liu Bei: I do not see that, but I do see a resemblance to your father.
Xiahou Dun: I agree. He must be cut down before he becomes a genuine obstacle to the progress of our lord...
Xiaohou Yuan: ...I'm sorry, I wasn't listening. I was just thinking how much he looks like your dad...
Zhang Liao: He is arrogant... But you yourself know arrogance and greatness often go hand in hand.
Sima Yi: He seems a man receptive to all ideas, all possibilities. In that way, he reminds me of your father.
Xu Huang: I see certain similarities between him and my lord Cao Cao. Perhaps he shares some of his greatness.
Zhen Ji: You speak of him just as you speak of your own father, my lord.
Zhang He: He has the same elegance I see in you, my lord. I wish to know more of him.
Cao Ren: I, too, sense something in those eyes... Something uncomfortable, yet strangely familiar...
Sun Jian: To tell the truth, he reminds me quite a bit of your father. Perhaps it's the moustache...
Mitsunari Ishida: It's nice to see that even you think he's a bit creepy.

Second Part -
Da Ji: From now on, Cao Pi, I'm going to ask you and Mitsunari to work together.

Cao Pi: So you wish to keep an eye on me.

Da Ji: Not at all! It's just that... Well, you're both so brilliant, I thought it was a match made in heaven, is all.

Cao Pi: But you have made a mistake. It is he who should be watched.

Mitsunari Ishida: I'd rather be spied on all day than to have to spend my time with you.

Da Ji: Like I said, a match made in heaven...

Chapter 3 - Battle of Xia Kou

Narrator: While making a name for himself as a faithful officer of Orochi by quelling the Resistance, Cao Pi released Huang Gai for a second time as he continued to covertly prepare an uprising against his master. Her suspicions aroused, Da Ji began to keep a closer eye on Cao Pi, and forced him to be accompanied by the antagonistic Mitsunari Ishida. Elsewhere, Sun Ce, the leader of Wu who had been coerced into fighting for Orochi due to the kidnapping of his father Sun Jian, suddenly rebelled against the Serpent King. Orochi ordered Sun Ce's brother Sun Quan to lead the Wu Army and put down his brother's insurgency. Cao Pi was instructed to aid Sun Quan in this task...

Prelude Scene -

Da Ji: So, Sun Quan, this is awkward, isn't it?

Sun Quan: My brother has betrayed my father and myself. He has severed the ties between us. He is nothing to me now.

Da Ji: Oh, I do love a man of conviction. You two could learn a thing or two from him.

Cao Pi: Sun Ce's army is in disarray. His betrayal was not properly planned.

Mitsunari Ishida: So you're saying that when your time comes, you'll do a better job?

Da Ji: ...

Aftermath Scene -

Da Ji: Come, bring me Sun Ce. You did capture him, of course...

Cao Pi: I'm afraid he escaped.

Da Ji: That's not what it looked like from where I was standing... It looked more like he was allowed to escape.

Cao Pi: And does that not seem a little too perfect to you? You are a smart woman. You must realize that it was an enemy plan to divide us in suspicion.

Mitsunari Ishida: It's probably Zhou Yu's doing. He's smart enough to have used an impostor and made it seem that way to you.

Da Ji: Of course, of course... How foolish of me not to see something so obvious...

Chapter 4 - Battle of Yi Ling

Narrator: Enemies at first sight, Cao Pi and Mitsunari Ishida had begun to see each other in a new light. After allowing Sun Ce to escape, Cao Pi was saved from incurring Da Ji's wrath by the quick thinking of Mitsunari. A strange and uneasy friendship had begun to develop... As for Cao Pi's own rebellion, there was one more element required before he could put his plans in place. Xiahou Dun and Xiahou Yuan, loyal to the province of Wei, had refused to join Cao Pi in his subordination to Orochi, and were fighting with the Resistance. With the intention of winning their trust, Cao Pi set out to battle them at Yi Ling...

Prelude Scene -

Mitsunari Ishida: Those two... They used to serve Cao Pi's father, didn't they? It seems they are here to see if he is a worthy leader.

Xu Zhu: They don't like Cao Pi. But if Cao Pi can bring us all lots of delicious food like Cao Cao used to, then I'll be happy!

Random Character Comment:
Zhuge Liang: They wish to put Cao Pi to the test, the only way they know how - by facing him in battle. And for his part, Cao Pi will welcome this opportunity to prove his worth.
Jiang Wei: Cao Cao and Cao Pi on the scales... I believe they may tilt in favor of the younger man...
Yue Ying: They need to find for themselves whether or not he is a man they can follow.
Xing Cai: Cao Pi too faces the pressure of living up to a great father. But I know he will overcome it.
Sima Yi: They've come to compare Cao Pi to Cao Cao, for battle is the only standard by which such men can be measured.
Zhen Ji: Such temerity... I just hope for their sakes they make it out alive.
Pang De: The day comes for all fathers when they must cede to their sons. This may be that day...
Zhou Yu: Hmm. Will he be outshone, or will he put his father into shadow? This is the true test of the man.
Lu Xun: I believe his star is on the rise. One day he will be greater than his father. But I wonder what they will see in him.
Lu Meng: They may be shocked at how he has grown. They say adversity makes a man.
Zuo Ci: Father and son cannot be so easily compared... They must allow him to lead his own life. Judge him as his own man.
Nobunaga Oda: The son is to be tested by his father's followers... I'm sure he'll be delighted...
Kunoichi: There's only one way to convince these guys that they can trust him. By pounding the hell out of 'em!
No: The measure of a man is in the way he handles his sword, you say? Yes, I suppose it is...
Hideyoshi Toyotomi: Cao Pi isn't even flustered! Well, there's their answer right there!
Mitsunari Ishida: Everyone wants to compare him to his father, but he doesn't care. We'll soon find out who's the greater...
Sakon Shima: I have a feeling I know who's going to come out on top in that battle.

Aftermath Scene -

First Part -
Xiahou Dun: No man could ever match my lord... But you seem to have your own sense of honor...

Xiahou Yuan: And you have a plan, right? I mean, I think you do, but it's always kinda hard to tell...

Pang Tong: It may not be easy to grasp, but I'd say they're each paying you a very high compliment. And to tell the truth, I think you're quite the dandy myself. So if you care to have yet another pair of helping hands, well...

Cao Pi: I know not whether you follow me out of loyalty to my father, or curiosity. But I have no reason to reject capable officers.

Second Part -
Da Ji: Cao Pi is gathering followers again, I see. But I fear this army is not being built to preserve the glory of Orochi... Still, this is all coming a little quicker than I had imagined...

Chapter 5 - Battle of Odawara Castle

Narrator: The time was ripe... With these two warriors on his side, Cao Pi's preparations were complete. He leaked the false rumor that Sun Jian was being held in Da Ji's Odawara Castle in order to encourage Huang Gai and his army to attack... While at the same time, heading for the main keep to capture the increasingly suspicious Da Ji himself...

Aftermath Scene -

First Part -
Da Ji: I guess you were just too good for me... So, what is it you want from me now?

Cao Pi: I want you to help us. Surely you're not content just working for Orochi either.

Da Ji: Are you sure? Orochi is powerful beyond your dreams... You don't want to make him any angrier than he already is...

Random Character Comment:
Guan Yu: Strength does not come from persecuting the weak and defenseless. A true warrior is one who challenges and defeats the truly strong.
Xing Cai: I know he is strong. But he is not invincible. Defeating this evil is the only way forward!
Cao Cao: I feel sorry for him. He does not yet know the true joy of battle - the thrill of overcoming insurmountable odds.
Zhang Liao: It is the proudest moment for any warrior to face one of his might. I do not fear it; I welcome it!
Xu Huang: Once we defeat him, we will be the true masters of war. We cannot allow this opportunity to pass!
Zhen Ji: You can feel free to stay cowering by his side. I intend to slay him, and bring glory to our name.
Cao Pi: I grow weary of merely crushing an inferior enemy. War with Orochi - now that would be a challenge.
Gan Ning: Only makes it more worth my while! There's no point picking on a little wimp.
Lu Bu: I've wasted enough time fighting lowly pawns... Orochi is the only opponent worthy of me now.
Dong Zhuo: He'd just better not make me angrier than I am right now.
Mitsuhide Akechi: Our battle with this demon will go down in history. Do you not wuish to claim your own glory?
Mitsunari Ishida: I've never backed down from a fight in my life. I'm not about to start now.
Kotaro Fuma: Then it will be all the more satisfying when we devour him whole.

Da Ji: Oh, absolutely. The prospect excites me too. I'm not going to let you have him all to yourself.

Second Part -
Huang Gai: You have now spared my life on three occasions. Without you, I would be nothing, so now I pledge to you my service. I know I could be of use. Please, allow me to serve in your army.

Cao Pi: You are a man of honor, and I will be glad to have your service.

Chapter 6 - Battle of Chen Cang

Narrator: Now was the time for Cao Pi to openly make his move. Having captured Da Ji and secured her services for himself, he declared Wei's independence from Orochi. All the while, he continued to strengthen his own army in preparation for the inevitable clash with Orochi himself. He made for Chen Cang, where waited the army of Nagamasa Azai. If he could defeat them, they would make an invaluable addition to his army...

Aftermath Scene -

Nagamasa Azai: A defeated soldier deserves death alone. Allow me to die in dignity.

Oichi: I wish to share the same fate as my lord.

Gan Ning: I was really gonna teach that snake a lesson! Come on, then, what're you gonna do? Kill me? Huh?

Cao Pi: You all desire death, do you? How appropriate. I am about to embark upon a quest to topple Orochi. You shall join me, and if you must die, it will be as part of that quest.

Chapter 7 - Battle of Yamazaki

Narrator: Cao Pi had finally accumulated the military strength he needed. Taking his plan to the next step, he moved his army into Orochi's territory, to the key outpost of Yamazaki. Waiting for him there was the combined guile of the two great strategists Zhuge Liang and Sima Yi. Cao Pi was also concerned by the increasingly suspicious behavior of Da Ji...

Prelude Scene -

Mitsunari Ishida: The enemy ranks feature the two great strategists of your age. This could be a problem.

Cao Pi: Sima Yi and Zhuge Liang have joined forces...? This will be entertaining.

Mitsunari Ishida: You're not easily deterred, are you?

Cao Pi: Like my father, I enjoy a challenge. Who knows, the lure of this battle might be enough to bring him back from beyond the grave.

Mitsunari Ishida: Perhaps so.

Aftermath Scene -

Cao Pi: Father. You live, after all.

Cao Cao: You fought well, my son.

Cao Pi: If you so desire, I wil gladly relinquish control of this army to you.

Cao Cao: This army belongs to you. You must continue as its leader.

Dian Wei: I will fight alongside my lord. You can count on me to wreak some havoc!

Chapter 8 - Battle of Koshi Castle

Narrator: The return of Cao Cao was the ingredient needed to reinspire the soldiers of Wei. Pursuing the fleeing Da Ji, Cao Pi managed to discover Orochi's secret lair, Koshi Castle. Cao Pi's long and patient strategy was finally beginning to bear fruit. The Wei Army pressed forward to Koshi Castle for the ultimate showdown with the Serpent King...
