It can be started as early, during 3 star Fame, but by then you would have to have loads of French contracts. These request missions require you to find and run over long distances to get the ''just perfect'' ingredients. Christine de Pizan is your contract employer here, as she will ask you to find the 3 substances over a few battles during the 3 to the end of 4 star Fame, duration. It won't be until when you are in 5 star Fame that she will show up to test her experiments success in the Battle of Vannes. Once the contracts completion, she will reward you with the Explosives Book containing the guns. A question, though: I'm not sure as to being in 5-star fame had anything to do with getting Christine's last side-story battle, the Battle of Vannes. I've acquired this battle during 4-star fame, and acquired the Book after finishing one contract. Before the Battle of Orleans, I literally finished almost all side-stories except the last remaining ones like Shakti's (her side-story appeared when I was in 4-star fame) and John Hawkwood's (who appears on 5-stars only). Just wanted to pass along this information if everyone's having a hard time in getting the book on 5-stars. RANT: Though I do often wonder why the battle name for finishing the game on the French Side is called the 'Battle of Bordeaux' instead of the 'Battle of Castillon'. I guess it's not for me to lament. :lol:
