I'd like to say that, as of yet, the musou modes involve more characters than just the character you are using. I have seen tons of character traits in Lu Meng, just from playing Gan Ning's and Lu Xun's musou mode. And you can just as easily used those characters in their respective battle on Free Mode. So honestly, we aren't missing much from limited Musou modes.
