I never had a hatred of smoking, or even smokers, until I went to Europe for a few months. Now, I loved Germany, but I felt... out of place. You could point out the American from a mile away on the U-Bahn because I'd be the only one that doesn't have a cigarette in my mouth or ready to pull one out. (I'm overexaggerating, really...) No offense to any smokers, but I really don't want to be inhaling any of that junk. Killing yourself slowly is fine, just leave me out of it. And normally, I wouldn't find it hard to avoid it. Sometimes, though, there is simply no escape from it, and if you're going to have the lack of common courtesy to smoke in ENTRY ways to buildings, then deal with my bitter comments. I'm hurting your feelings, you're killing my lungs. Equal enough trade. I'm a very, very bitter person, I find. And it's not just the whole 'second hand risk' that gets me- I'm allergic to smoke and I can't stand the smell of it. It's nasty. Nothing irritates me more than my grandmother going to a thrift store to get me hand-me-downs and they reek of smoke. |
