Weapon Drop Boxes
***************

While harvesting weapons for Almighty (Tenbu in the Japanese), I found myself wishing that I knew which officers to go straight for so I wouldn't have to stick around and wait on the officer drops when most of them only drop useless experience scrolls. While clearing the dream modes, I discovered that the same officers were dropping weapons. Going back to Story Mode, I discovered that the same thing happened: the same officer would drop a weapon box in Easy or Hard. I personally tested every single Story Mode mission on multiple difficulties to confirm the results, though if something slipped past me I'll welcome corrections or easier/faster ways to do stages. I also haven't noticed any difference in team choice, but if there are any ways to speed things up I'll note them as I receive updates.

Stages are presented in number order with title and star difficulty, then the officers that drop weapons (followed by any conditions or necessary delays in getting to them), if there are any holes in time or location that means I haven't figured it out yet but would welcome specifications. Officers that are there in mission start and can be found via the map are not specified. Last is the 'boss' you must kill or condition you must fulfill to end the mission and thereby take your weapons.

1-Battle of Shi Ting (One Star)
-Cottonmouth
-Goldenrod
-Hooknose (appears in SW garrison after 'allies frozen'. There is a delay between the freezing and your first check before he'll appear)
-Dong Zhuo (appears in ambush after Da Ji's 'secret weapon' speech, exact conditions unknown)
=Kill Da Ji, though since the gates to her garrison near the center of the map don't open until Taigong Wang gets there can end up making this map take quite a while. The conditions to get Taigong Wang to appear are unknown.

2-Battle of Saika (Two Stars)
-Hooknose
-Kojuro Katakura
-Xin Pi
-Sima Zhao (appears with 'Date reinforcements' in the same general area as Masamune)
=Kill Masamune Date (sitting in the NE), this requires waiting until his reinforcements and he opens the gates into the northern third of the map, I've never done this in less than 6 minutes.

3-Battle of Nagashino (Two Stars)
-Mitsuuji Ujiie
-Wei Xu
-Diao Chan (in eastern garrison, gates open after Lu Xun's arrival)
-Chen Gong (in the garrison with Lu Bu, gates open after 'East Garrison' is infiltrated)
=Killing Lu Bu takes a while because you have to infiltrate the 'East Garrison' before he'll open his gates, and that won't happen until after Lu Xun arrives, which takes defeating a couple waves of Lu Bu's army.

4-Battle of Wuhang Mountains (Three Stars)
-Kornerupine (in NE after opening the gates)
-Li Ru (in NE, during enemy reinforcement/ambush with Dong Zhuo)
-Hognose
-Bushmaster (appears in SE with Sun Wukong)
=Sun Wukong does technically appear on the map before the mission begins, but he disappears immediately and only after rescuing Mitsuhide Akechi and babysitting him until after Dong Zhuo's ambush when he heads NE and killing the sorcerers there does Wukong actually reappear. The fact that you have to spend so much time babysitting Mitsuhide is irritating, though at least keeping Gracia alive isn't a necessity for getting a victory.

5-Battle of Jia Meng Gate (Three Stars)
-Hua Xiong
-Dong Zhuo
-Sun Wukong (the real one, after opening gaes to NE, after Zhang Liao's appearance)
-Feldspar (with Kiyomori, after opening gates to NE)
=Kill Kiyomori Taira, which requires waiting for Zhang Liao's appearance so you can dispatch the sorcerers creating the phantom soldiers so Wukong's doubles will appear at the gates.

6-Battle of Odani Castle (Four Stars)
-Boomslang (second ambush just before Main Ward)
-Coachwhip (Main Ward)
-Hognose (Mount Yamada Garrison)
-Himiko or Da Ji (after reaching the Mount Yamada Garrison, the first drops the weapon, the second ends the mission)
=Himiko or Da Ji both have to be offed to end the mission. Due to the number of ambushes you need to spring and doors you have to wait to go through, this battle will take a long time and unless you're playing a drastically under-leveled character you'll be certain to have a lot of empty waiting time.

7-Battle of Koshi Castle (Four Stars)
-Yellowbelly
-Sun Wukong (in SW garrison, gates sealed by Defense Captains)
-Massicot
-Sidewinder
=Kiyomori Taira hides behind gates in Koshi Castle, the only way to open them is to kill Sun Wukong. The problem is that there is a significant delay between killing the Defense Captains and the gates opening (I've killed both captains and still had a couple minutes before the gates opened, so I'm not sure if killing both is necessary).

8-Battle of Wu Zhang Plains (Five Stars)
-Hooknose
-Masamune Date (in his ambush in the E)
-Dodomekki (starts in NW, advances when Taigong Wang begins preparations to open the gates)
-Himiko (in NW, available after Taigong Wang opens the gates)
=Shin Orochi waits at the top of the hill to the north, and even using the Cavalry skill it takes forever to get to him because you have to escort Taigong Wang to the central gate and wait minutes for him to use his illusory magic. Then you have to wait for the credits/opening logos because this is the end of the Shu campaign.

1-Battle of Si Province (One Star)
-Hammerjaw
-Hua Xiong
-Dong Zhuo
-Ytterbite
=Sun Wukong starts in the NW, and will advance either after enough time passes or after you reach Dong Zhuo's position. I like this map because it lacks delays like gates or ambushes that you need to trigger.

2-Battle of Si Shui Gate (Two Stars)
-Hou Cheng
-Diao Chan (in NW camp but accessible by using a road leading south)
-Chen Gong (in NW camp near Diao Chan, also accessible without waiting for Lu Bu's advance to open the gates)
-Kotarou Fuuma (appears in ambush in NE after fire attack is announced)
=Lu Bu waits in his NW garrison until the approximate time of the fire attack before advancing. If you swing nearby, you can draw him out early.

3-Battle of Shizugatake (Two Stars)
-Ju Shou
-Yan Liang
-Wen Chou (part of NW garrison with Yuan Shao)
-Jian Wei (part of NW garrison with Yuan Shao, unless Yuan Shao is provoked he leaves first)
=Yuan Shao waits in the NW garrison but can be provoked to come out earlier

4-Battle of Ji Castle (Three Stars)
-Yellowbelly
-Sun Wukong
-Coltan
-Copperhead (appears with the 'phantom soldiers event' after Magoichi's reinforcements arrive)
=Sima Yi waits inside a small garrison in the south, guarded only by a generic officer on either side.

5-Battle of Nomaki-Nagakute (Three Stars)
-Sun Wukong
-Coachwhip (in SW garrison, released after Kiyomori's 'more numbers' speech)
-Gyuuki (in west wing of S garrison, sealed until Kiyomori opens the gates to join battle himself)
-? I've searched this level a half dozen times, but I've never found a fourth weapon drop.
=Kiyomori Taira waits in the S garrison, and he takes his sweet time deciding that you've decimated enough of the army outside to feel like he has to fight you himself.

6-Battle of Yamatai (Four Stars)
-Keelback
-Diamondback
-Yasuhiro Ogasawara (appears in NW as part of 'blockade')
-Coltan (in the garrison with Da Ji)
=Da Ji (in the SW garrison)

7-Battle of Tong Gate (Four Stars)
-Massicot (appears Central with initial map-wide enemy wave, only drops weapon once)
-Feldspar (appears NE with initial ambush)
-Levnye (appears NW with initial ambush)
-Sun Wukong (appears after player approaches NW position after initial ambush)
=Kiyomori Taira waits in the SW garrison, the east gates never open but the north gates are only blocked by a Defense Captain.

8-Battle of Guan Du (Four Stars)
-Galena (attacking the northern friendly camp)
-Yu Jin
-Cottonmouth (in the 'north garrison')
-Masamune Date (inside Guan Du castle, he's the only one you have to actually wait for because of the Guard Captain)
=Shin Orochi waits inside the E castle, and as far as I know you have to kill more than one of the officers guarding the gates to it. Though the number of officers makes this an excellent place to farm proficiency, the end credits/opening logos prevent this map from being the best farming level in the game.

1-Battle of Ru Xu Kou (One Star)
-Hooknose (appears near map center in 1st Orochi army ambush after Fuuma)
-Urutu (second Orochi army ambush after Fuuma, with engineers)
-Mamushi (SW corner, ambush after engineers)
-Kotaro Fuuma (second appearance near the SE escape point)
=There is no boss, you have to wait for Yoshitsune Minamoto to arrive at the Escape Point.

2-Battle of Kanegasaki (Two Stars)
-Munekatsu Nomi
-Hu Zhen (enemy ambush/reinforcements at main camp)
-Hua Xiong (enemy ambush/reinforcements at NW)
-Dong Min (Dong Zhuo's ambush at W)
=Dong Zhuo appears in the west. It'd be nice if he'd appear quickly, but since you have to kill Goemon and then escort Xiao Qiao to his hiding spot it ends up being yet another waiting game without enough officers to do proficiency harvesting in the mean time, even including the four who appear in the NE to attack the Main Camp.

3-Battle of Nan Zhong (Two Stars)
-Cao Ren
-Cao Zhen (E garrison)
-Pang Tong (appears in ambush near south-center of map after Meng Huo's first fire attack)
-Zhen Ji (in the garrison with Cao Pi)
=Cao Pi is right next to Zhen Ji, so ending the mission once you've gotten the last weapon is easy, though he is close enough that if you're using a powerful character (or Almighty) you might kill him before you can grab the weapon from Zhen Ji.

4-Battle of Itsukushima (Three Stars)
-Diao Chan
-Travertine
-Gyuuki (appears as ambush near Kiyomori)
-Boomslang (appears as ambush near SE)
=Lu Bu, Kiyomori both start in the NW and have to be killed. This map is relatively easily navigable, but if you want to get all four weapons you have to spring all three ambushes and that takes quite a bit of time and baby-sitting Yoshimoto.

5-Battle of Okehazama (Three Stars)
-Zhong Hui
-Wen Pin
-Keiji Maeda
-Tsunamoto Oniniwa
=Masamune Date waits in the SE garrison. This is my favorite Wu mission, because although navigation isn't easy there are no ambushes to wait for or gates to obstruct you, except for the north-central garrison which opens after you successfully defeat Keiji and only contains a generic officer with an experience scroll. You can slay all four weapon carriers and Masamune in very little time.

6-Battle of Yang Ping Gate (Four Stars)
-Wei Xu
-Diao Chan (Lu Bu east reinforcement)
-Chen Gon (only accessable after 'main gates of Yang Ping open')
-Xhang Xiu (Lu Bu west reinforcement)
=Lu Bu doesn't appear in the NW until late in the mission, and he immediately advances south towards the Main Camp. This mission is a combination of gates, ambushes without weapon drops to make them worth it, and more gates. At least the east bypath is always open, allowing you to partially circumvent most of the gates, but it's still irritating.

7-Battle of Yamazaki (Four Stars)
-Yellowbelly (inside Defense Captain guarded NE canon)
-Hooknose
-Huntsman (ambush in N after defeating officers guarding Kiyomori's camp gates)
-Travertine (in Kiyomori's camp)
=Kiyomori Taira waits in the SE garrison. The battlefield-wide miasma that he releases isn't actually that annoying, but waiting for him to open the gates is. With two gates that you'll spend minutes waiting on this isn't a quick mission.

8-Battle of Chi Bi (Five Stars)
-Hognose (altar, after 1st naval reinforcements)
-Boomslang (north fleet, after 2nd naval reinforcements)
-Da Ji (north fleet, after 2nd naval reinforcements)
-Keiji Maeda (north fleet, after 2nd naval reinforcements)
=Shin Orochi waits in the north. I hate this mission almost as much as Wu 3, because it forces you to do nothing but wait until both naval reinforcements arrive, with no possible option to trigger anything or hurry things up. The fire attack is mildly irritating, but can be easily circumvented by cycling through your team, there's just not enough to do until the north fleet becomes accessible. And that doesn't even include the wait of the end credits and opening logos after you finish the staggered mission.

1-Battle of Lou Sang Village (One Star)
-Goemon Ishikawa
-Dong Min
-Li Ru
-Hua Xiong
=Dong Zhuo. This is another quick mission because there are no gates and no long ambushes to wait for. Low star rating means you'll have to throw in a lot of difficulty variations to get the elements or 4th levels you want, though if you have Karma maxed out you'll get 4th levels each drop on Chaos difficulty - I recommend you bring an Almighty wielder before you use this, just because killing people on Chaos mode is inconvenient without Flash on every swing. The low number of officers also makes this map less than ideal for proficiency harvesting.

2-Battle of Ji Province (Two Stars)
-Hammerjaw (ambush in NE)
-Kojiro Sasaki (2nd ambush, E center)
-Harvestman (3rd ambush, SE)
-Himiko or Da Ji (whichever you kill first, the other ends the mission)
=Himiko, Da Ji (whichever you kill second). Although this is easy if you're patient, I don't like being patient. Getting the weapons means WAITING for each and every ambush, and if you get too close to either Himiko or Da Ji and you're liable to make them stop running and attack you.

3-Battle of Hasedou (Two Stars)
-Urutu
-Bushmaster (guarding the gatehouse N of the first gate)
-Kotarou Fuuma (appears in field N of 2nd gate on player entrance)
-Hooknose (waiting at the guard post N of the field, just south of the forest)
=Sun Wukong hides all the way at the northern field of the map, meaning you'll have to break through each and every gate. I hate this map almost as much as Wu 3 (Nan Zhong) because of all the time you'll spend waiting for gates to open and babysitting friendly officers until Yukimura and Kanetsugu reach the north forest gate so Fu Xi will appear and open it, because they're too stupid to pass up a peon.

4-Battle of Chang Ban (Three Stars)
-Keiji Maeda
-Shigezane Date (appears in ambush that destroys cavalry charge)
-Sima Yi
-Da Ji or Masamune Date (whichever you kill first)
=Da Ji, Masamune Date (whichever you kill second). I love this map because the ambush you have to wait for occurs almost right away, even if you've got Cavalry and Almighty you won't have killed Keiji before it appears. This means you will have effectively zero waiting in getting every single weapon and killing the critical officer to end the mission. It may be low in difficulty stars, but alternate between the difficulties and throw chaos in once in a while if you've got Almighty and it will be a quick piece of cake.

5-Battle of Liang Province (Three Stars)
-Redback (appears in north cannon garrison)
-Hammerjaw (appears in west cannon garrison)
-Cao Xing (guarding SW garrison)
-Diao Chan (in SE garrison with Lu Bu)
=Lu Bu hides in the SE garrison, and though I once killed the Defense Captain on the inside with a character with Almighty, I've never managed to repeat it so you'll probably have to be quick mopping up the enemy officers to draw out Lu Bu.

6-Battle of Hu Lao (Four Stars)
-Diamondback
-Sun Wukong (appears in ambush when someone approaches Escape Point)
-Dong Zhuo (ambush from south of Kiyomori's garrison, after Nobunaga's appearance)
-Hua Xiong (in ambush with Dong Zhuo)
=Kiyomori Taira sits in the NW camp and doesn't have anything blocking you from killing him, but if you want the weapons you'll still have to wait for the ambushes, which means killing his waves of attack and escorting Sakon Shima.

7-Battle of Bai Di (Four Stars)
-Dong Zhuo
-Sun Wukong (inside the Stone Sentinel Maze)
-Kotarou Fuuma (appears in ambush when Nobunaga reaches central garrison)
-Orbweaver (inside Bai Di castle)
-Diamondback (inside Bai Di next to Kiyomori)
=Kiyomori Taira sits inside Bai Di castle, but you only need to breach one gate to get to him and the southern gate is extremely quick, though you still have to wait until Zhang Liao arrives before you can kill Sun Wukong's doubles to open the gates. After dispatching the two officers guarding the south gate, you can run around killing other officers outside until the stupid gate opens.

8-Battle of Sekigahara (Four Stars)
-Botryogen
-Masamune Date
-Keiji Maeda (appears in his ambush, after cannons captured? 6 mins?)
-Da Ji (just outside the inner wall of the NE camp).
=Shin Orochi, gates guarded by Da Ji. Getting to Da Ji is what takes most of the time, because you have to take the canons and clear the enemy officers, but with Almighty or a good officer it's still easy within 10 minutes. Killing gate guards and then leaving to kill field officers is a good way to minimize empty waiting time, though you'll have to tolerate the end credits and opening logos again.

Orochi Musou
********************************

1-Battle of Odawara Castle (One Star)
-Naoshige Chiba
-Keiji Maeda (starts in NE courtyard but advances W to central ward). Hidenaga and 1-2 Defense Captains (depending on the route) stand between the player start and him.
-Nene (guarding gates at main ward)
-Hidetsugu Hashiba (in the storehouse)
=Hideyoshi Toyotomi sits in the 3rd floor of Odawara Castle, fortunately after the Defense captain behind Nene there aren't any further obstructions.

2-Battle of Cheng Du (Two Stars)
-Zhuge Liang (Inside central court of Cheng Du castle)
-Zhao Yun (slows down where the road meets the forest and may strike before Zhu Rong appears)
-Zhu Rong (appears with Mengu Huo in an ambush once a friendly officer reaches the forest)
-Meng Huo (appears in ambush in forest once friendly officer reaches the area)
=Liu Bei starts in the W castle and will probably reach the forest entry point before you have the chance to get to him. Fortunately, he takes his time meandering to the actual Escape Point.

3-Battle of Kawanakajima (Two Stars)
-Yukimura Sanada
-Nobukado Takeda (a Shingen officer who advances soon before player reaches the exit of the Stone Sentinel Maze)
-Kanetsugu Naoe (exits the W garrison with engineers after Shingen launches his fire attack)
-Takahiro Kitajou (Part of Kenshin's group)
=Shingen Takeda, Kenshin Uesugi both hide in their garrisons and won't approach until you near Takeda.

4-Battle of He Fei (Three Stars)
-Ding Feng
-Gan Ning (appears in central ambush after N or W Wu forces are defeated).
-Zhou Yu (in NW garrison with Sun Jian).
-Quan Zong (appears with Sun Ce reinforcements, which appear after N, W Wu units and center ambush is defeated)
=Sun Jian waits in the NW garrison until Sun Ce's reinforcements arrive when both advance on the Main Camp.

5-Battle of Edo Castle (Three Stars)
-Shigezane Date (ambush at S gate)
-Masanari Naitou (ambush at E gate)
-Ina Honda (ambush sprung after friendly officer reaches 2nd level of main keep)
-Hanzo Hattori (3rd floor of Edo Keep with Ieyasu)
=Ieyasu Tokugawa is with Hanzo Hattori in the 3rd floor of Edo Keep, the most time-consuming part of getting inside is activating all four gate ambushes (required before the main keep is opened) and then waiting for the gate on floor 2 to open after defeating Masamune.

6-Battle of Yi Ling (Four Stars)
-Xiahou Dun
-Xu Zhu
-Xiahao Yuan (in the Stone Sentinel Maze)
-Dian Wei (in the Stone Sentinel Maze)
=Cao Cao actually appears in the maze next to the gates in the camp, then falls back, but even though you keep the map in the maze, having to wait for the fire attack and then roaming through the maze to kill all six sorcerers is a pain.

7-Battle of Mikatagahara (Four Stars)
-Mitsuhide Akechi (inside the supply garrison)
-Morimasa Sakamura (one of the ambushes to stop the sorcerers)
-Ranmaru Mori (from the east-central garrison)
-Nou (from the N garrison with Nobunaga)
=Nobunaga Oda waits in the NE garrison, but taking a bypath can lead to its gates and only a Defense Captain blocks you if you're too impatient to wait until he advances.

8-Battle of Hinokawa (Five Stars)
-Zhang Jiao
-Zuo Ci
-Fu Xi, Nu Wa, Taigong Wang. The NE garrison they hide in will only open after all other officers - including the false Da Ji and Orochi - are killed.
=Fu Xi, Nu Wa, Taigong Wang; whichever you kill last ends the mission. Becuase they wait until every outside officer is dead, it can take a while until you get inside the NE garrison, and then you still have to sit through the ending credits and opening logos.
I've gotta break out, I need a way out,
I don't believe it's gotta be this way,
The worst is the way that
In this room I'm suffocating
