Fantastic game! If you're a fan of NA, RoTK or strategy games in general, you've got to play this. If they release it in the UK or your PS2 can play a US version, don't pass it up. The game is very well balanced, easy to learn, but tough to master, and the scenarios provide you with as many power levels as you can have. The first three starting scenarios pretty much have a level playing field for everyone, but with different forces having different strengths/weaknesses. And the other starting two scenarios have a couple forces being about 5 times the size of others, giving you the option to see how fast you can sweep through the islands, or pick one of the Davids and try to defeat the Goliaths. If you get the game or you're just starting out. I recommend doing one or two games on local mode first. The unification mode can be overwhelming with the sheer number of opposing forces and possibly time-wasting if you play for hours only to reach a no-way-out situation because you didn’t plan well. There’s no speech whatsoever in the game, but the music is fantastically composed, so battles are exciting and peaceful times serene even without voices. It can be very slow at the beginning when you’re waiting for time to pass as your officers carry out orders. It would be nice to let the game do its thing while you go do something for a couple minutes during this waiting time, but there’s no option to automatically stop the game when an officer finishes his job or when a ronin wanders into your territory. Even on easy mode the game is challenging, so it’s not for children, that’s for sure. You’re definitely in for a lot of time spent on this jewel. |
