I think that you should be able to play as the Shimazu and Date forces, because they would not conflict or disrupt Nobunaga's storyline too much. I enjoyed the stages from Kessen 3 when the battles were on a smaller scale, and it involved uniting Owari and gathering vassals. I think the Date and Shimazu clans would be perfect. Furthermore, a sort of free mode would be and excellant addition in my opinion. Being able to play famous historical battles, which would allow you to play as forces such as Takeda, Uesugi, Mori etc.
