 That's not too hard. Search for wooden/bamboo place mats either in home or craft stores, or online. I have like...five of them for just the purpose of making things like the Speed Scroll from SW1.

Then you can paint it and change the color of the string keeping it together to whatever you need. Taigong's looks like it's varnished, so you might want to seal it afterward to get that glossy look/protect it from oils/fingerprints.
