Or can 2P have more KO's than 1P and the item will still appear. I been trying to get his item for 3 days now and tried all the methods and even tried it on chaos mode and still fell short a hundred. I'm about to send my memory card to someone and pay them to do it for me. It's easier to get Lu Bu's PI with 2 players so you can split the KO counts like you said. It's doesn't matter how it's split up as long as it's 1,000 KOs equally and you get it done within 10 minutes in order to unlock it. Make sure you have Hideyoshi on your team so you can use his R1 ongoing to speed things up because that is what I did to get his PI.
