When somebody buy you will receive a letter from the pawn shop seller. The red bell in top left corner means you got a letter by the way. After this just go there and talk to him. Yes there is a limit of clothes and items either. I am not sure about the limit of clothes but you can only have few pieces of clothes if you don't buy a new and bigger closet. About items you can carry 9 of each one of them.
