Indeed, I'm not saying that there needs to be a lot of things requiring attention. That's one of the things that Bladestorm does very well: if you level up a squad, you don't have to immediately divvy out SP, you can wait through several missions and/or level-ups later before you touch it. I'd like more armor/equipment options on squads, but in Bladestorm now everybody starts off with a basic 'low-level filler equipment' and you can choose to charge off as-is, which is something I'd like to keep. Being able to say 'I don't feel like this, I'll deal with it later' is great, much better than Escape Velocity where you have to make sure your ship has a suitable Engine and Computer and Fuel before you can launch. As far as Amari Ade Lord of Ohray's idea of duels, I hadn't actually thought of that. Something like challenging a particular officer for a challenge of 'skill' in one particular squad type? Or a more simple one-squad-vs-one-squad? Either way (especially the latter) might be an alternative to repetitively grinding through random contracts to level up tomes, particularly if you've just gotten a new one...like Engineers...and you'd rather not have your new engineers slaughtered by a mass of level 60 squads defending a redoubt. |
