"8.21 - Lu Meng ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ "It comes down to this" Similar to Zhang Liao, Lu Meng has very good reach and range in his normal attacks, but Zhang Liao is way better. His charge attacks aren't too impressive. Probably the biggest downfall is his weak attack. In terms of fighting style, Lu Meng is a bad version of Yue Ying, and Yue Ying is a bad version of Guan Yu. Both Lu Meng and Yue Ying have medium weight weapons without attack bonuses; both have third normal attack with terrible range, and similar range with the rest of their normal attacks. Yue Ying is much better than Lu Meng because she attacks faster. She also recovers from her normal attacks much faster than Lu Meng, which enables her to resume attacking (very much like Guan Yu). Lu Meng is also capable of doing this, but it is generally much harder with him to abuse his normal attacks. Lastly, her true musou is by far better, and more useful than Lu Meng's. From Guan Ping to Lu Meng can be an individual, more specific tier. All three of these characters, with Guan Ping being the first character in the tier list so far, have very dependable crowd clearing skills, but they lack either consistency or effectiveness in fighting generals in crowds. This is due to a poor arsenal of charge attacks, and weak damaging musou. In Lu Meng's case, he is decent against crowds, but lacks both consistency and effectiveness. _____ Items ŻŻŻŻŻ Tiger Amulet Green Scroll Wind Scroll Herbal Remedy Ginseng Fire Orb / Ice Orb ___________________ Tips and Strategies ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ The standard item configuration. No Way of Musou because it lifts enemies off their feet. The Ginseng is a good item to equip since his attack is relatively weak. Ice or fire orb. Fire will give an edge of safety when using Lu Meng's scattering charge attacks, but Lu Meng does not need to rely on charge attacks, and shouldn't, because his normal attacks have long reach, good range, and fast recovery. The ice orb still doesn't do very much, but the more important advantage for the ice orb is that it will let Lu Meng deal full damage, with his true musou instead of half damage, because it turns into a juggling musou. The ice orb would prove very useful when Lu Meng is in red health, or in a musou rage. As mentioned above, Lu Meng is capable of continuously attacking with his normal attacks. This is very useful since his charge attacks aren't very good. Although Guan Yu and Yue Ying are much better at this, Lu Meng can still pull it off. Stopping at his second or fourth normal attack is the safest. Lu Meng's normal charge is very useful for entering crowds. Since his third normal attack has minimal reach and range, it is often impossible to pull off his third charge attack without getting hit. However, if you deploy the fire projectile with his normal charge directly before attacking, the fire projectile explodes just as you do your third normal attack. This strategy changes his third charge from practically 10% success, to 100% success. No exaggeration either. The timing is so perfect that the fire projectile acts as if it were his third normal attack. Also if you are equipped with the ice orb, you have in a sense, a double elemental attack in his third charge. In any case his third charge doesn't activate the ice, the fire will still be present. His second charge is much slower than Zhang Liao's, but still is a useful move. It's probably more practical to use his normal attacks to deal damage, rather than his second charge though. The execution time for his fourth charge is too slow, and generals are able to attack you in the process. But it's a good move to use when generals at blocking. Since he moves forward quite a bit during the execution time, if you are close enough to a blocking general, it's quite easy to land the charge attack behind the general. This is a good way and the only way to hit blocking generals. His fifth charge is probably an overrated move. Sure, the reach and range is very good, but the attack is aerial. Like Guan Ping's fifth charge, enemies will like to do a jump attack on you. The execution and recovery time is also mediocre. When doing it against a general as part of an attack combo, turn away from the general as you execute the fifth charge. This way, the general will not block it. Normally, the execution time is too slow, which allows generals to block in time. Knowing this is very useful because then, his fifth charge is practically his only useful charge to serve as a finishing move to a safe combo against generals in crowds. His first charge, like Jiang Wei's is really useful, because of the awesome reach and range, but probably practical only for small groups, where you don't have to worry about enemies hitting you during your recovery time. The range in Lu Meng's air charge is likely too useless to be of any use in all circumstances other than fighting against one foot soldier. Never use this move. His musou is not bad, an average one. Try to stay in good health, because once in true musou, it is half damage. It's however up to you, because there is a fatal down fall in his regular musou. The timing of the ending of his musou is sometimes long enough that it allows generals to block. This will give an opportunity for generals to attack you directly after your musou. (which they pratically always do). What makes him such a poor character against generals in large crowds, is his poor musou, horrible true musou, poor charge attacks, and absense of an unblockable attack. Similar to Yue Ying, his fourth charge can be used to hit blocking generals, but you have to work your way and creep around the general, from the side. So there is very little consistency in the unblockability of his fourth charge. Similar with Yue Ying's fourth charge, it lacks reliability and consistency. Lu Meng is a decent character with a good normal attack string, which makes him a good character against crowds. His many disadvantages prevent him from being effective against generals in large crowds." From Calbee chaosmode guide in youtube and gamefaqs |
