You like 'epic music' and you like Dark Souls 3, how do you find this?

It's really great! I like the editing and how the lyric talks about the world of Dks3. The music is pretty fitting to the dark world of Souls game too. Never saw that kind of video coming from VaatiVidya tho

Well he just did the cinematics of the video ![]() He's done a few of those videos over the years, promoting songs people do about the Souls series. My favourite is Lordvessel about Dark Souls 1, but that's not really your style of song, full on rock there

To me they both are equal. What good about Bloodborne is it has a completly different atmosphere (Gothic) while all other Souls series are dark medieval. Bloodborne also has a good weapon system I suggest you to play Dark Souls first then play Bloodborne to know the different. You can start with Dark Souls 3. |

I think as someone fond of more actiony games Bloodborne would be the better game for you, it's a quicker pace. Although Dark Souls 3 is still a quick pace, it's not like 1 or 2 there which are quite a bit slower. Actually maybe Dark Souls 3 is the better choice. Bloodborne punishes mistakes more because you have limited healing items. Means you either have to perfect enemies or go farming for healing items if you run out. Dark Souls you'll always have a store of at least 5 (can upgrade capacity as you progress), every time you rest or every time you die it'll be back to full stock. Nioh's was somewhere in between the 2, could stock up more, but had that wee base level you'd always go back to, however elixirs in Nioh are more common than Blood Vials are past the beginning of Bloodborne. Anyway, to answer directly which is better I'd say Bloodborne. I enjoyed Dark Souls 3 more I think, but I like the theme more in general is part of that. It also has more flaws in it, but that's partly due to contrasting it with the other Dark Souls games. Edited by Sanada, Mon Jul 31, 2017 4:37 pm.

I read stuff about Bloodborne but what I find weird about it is that it seems to be more simple than Nioh, perhaps even too much. There's no skill tree, no blocking, no stances, no feature like living weapon, no ki pulse, no weight system. So I'm curious where the appeal of the game comes from then? I watched a few videos and the combat looks great & fun (the boss designs are very creative) but I'm afraid it's too simple for me after playing Nioh. I liked Nioh as it's so complex and has so many features in combat and stuff like skill tree which I enjoy. And yeah, that elixir system seems to be better in Dark Souls because apparently in Bloodborne you have to flee from the area if you run out of all elixirs?

Well you have the weapon switch system, R1 to change your weapon's style, and can fit it into combos for typically some of the weapons strongest attacks. It also has a lot more weapon types, but each weapon only has 2 styles to use them (based on transformation) as opposed to the 3 stances in Nioh. You also can block, but only if you replace your gun for a shield, and it's not very effective. The lack of blocking help makes it a faster pace actually, but still. The parry system is a big one. If you time a gun shot at the right part of an enemies attack you'll open them up for a visceral attack. Some enemies also have a similar system if you say damage a specific limb or their head too much (typically enemies too large to stagger to a gunshot), so it has specific locational damage. Another similar system being the backstab mechanic. If you fully charge a heavy attack at someones back they can be visceral attacked also. And right, heavy attacks can be charged by holding the button to get a different animation and style of attack if fully charged. You also have some more hidden mechanics like the Insight system, which can change how your enemies perform and let you see extra things in the world, as well as things like the Beast system (which runs a bit counter to Insight - lower insight gives you a lower resistance to beasthood), but the beast mechanic only is used for one consumable item until it's DLC content. Insight is used for quite a few including how it effects the Frenzy status ailment. Overall though, Bloodborne's greatest strength is definitely it's atmosphere. It's why I say it's the better game than Dark Souls 3. Hard to explain why something can be like that though. Edited by Sanada, Mon Jul 31, 2017 4:59 pm.

If you're talking about gameplay wise souls games are created as a simple gameplay, they are not action games About Bloodborne, yeah, it doesn't have any weight. Souls do tho. As Sanada said, Bloodborne is more of action gameplay than Souls. Bosses in Souls are better imo than Bloosborne, Bloodborne bosses designs looks like meat, however all Soulsborne series are taken from Berserk. i noticed the bosses from Bloodborne looks a lot like Berserk monsters design Dark Souls bosses also have much better soundtracks than borne (since SOULS each boss has his own soundtrack) Anyway, Soulsborne series is much more challenging than NIOH after all. |

Dude, the Old Hunter's DLC music is fantastic though. Some of my favourite Soulsborne music is from that Bloodborne DLC, in particular Ludwig, the Holy Blade. The scene helped a lot, was really epic, and I don't use that term lightly. Edited by Sanada, Mon Jul 31, 2017 5:05 pm.

Yeah i agree, i think mostly because ppl are not into medieval stuffs, or I would say people prefer fantasy horror gothic astmospherethan medieval Bloodborne aslo has a very well designed places if you ask me. The bulidings/places over all is well designed, and the sky (moon in the sky) and that purple sky with red moon, all beautiful to look honestly. I think Dark Souls 3 the only well detailed/designed place it has is irithyll of the boreal valley/Anor, I think they took notes from Bloodborne. The Ringed City looks cool too I still haven't finished the old hunter dlc so... ![]() Even tho, I heard these soundtracks, but I still think Souls has much more better ones I can name Edited by LegendaryDragonWarrior, Mon Jul 31, 2017 5:08 pm.

Yeah, that's definitely true as well. In fact one of it's greatest strengths I didn't mention since it's typical of the Souls series (a bit lacking in 3 and particularly 2, but it's still there) It's all interconnected. You can be in some really late game zone, then you find a huge gate there and it turns out it leads to a locked gate you saw in one of the earliest zones in the game. It's not level based like Nioh, it's just one big city and it's outskirts. Well aside from it's Dream realms. Infact really the exploration in general is one of it's greater strengths too. |

Does DS3 have skill tree like Nioh? It seems DS3 environment has more variety like forests and swamps, while BB seems to be mainly dark, gothic cityscape everywhere. |

BB has forest (well woods) and swamp too actually. ![]() Both part of it's Forbidden Woods area ![]() And then a bit beyond it also. DS3 is certainly more varied however, yeah. Anyway, it doesn't have skill trees like Nioh does at least, no. The way both Dark Souls and Bloodborne work is it's just based on the stats. Like you need a high enough Intelligence/Faith/Arcane value to use certain spells/miracles, you need a high enough Strength value to wield particularly heavy equipment (not actually attached to it's weight value though), or a certain Dexterity/Skill to wield more skillful weaponry. High Bloodtinge to use better firearms (Bloodborne specifically there). Previous games also had stat requirements on some armour, like Nioh does, but Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne both removed that requirement. The actual combat doesn't have skills the same way Nioh does for it. If we're talking Dark Souls 3 specifically, it's skills are all weapon based (not weapon class, individual weapons). Each weapon has a "Weapon Art" it can use with L2, some of which followup with attacks (typically using R2), some being buffs and some just being for better evasion or the like. Outside of weapon arts it's just basic attack, heavy attack (which can be charged for more damage), running attack, rolling attack, leap attack and backstep attack, as well as Kick which does no damage but staggers easily and is good for breaking peoples guard. Well and block, parry or shoot arrow/bolt or use casting of spells or miracles. And backstab and riposte, riposte following up a parry or guardbreak while backstab just getting to someones back and doing a basic attack to get a special animation. I see thanks for info seems like these games have a lot in common with Nioh, but there are some fundamental differences in combat that make them a different experience to play.I think overall both of these games sound quite good so maybe I should just get them both eventually. |
