"Ok, we're the smallest kingdom. Therefore, we should march up to the other guys and attack. I'm sure they won't ambush us." Ambush is the essence of deception, and "warfare is the Tao of deception" (Sun-tzu). There's nothing wrong with using ambush if the situation dictates it. In fact, it's actually a good idea, as sometimes the surprise with make most of the emeny flee or surrender, sparing lives. |

Of course. Everyone should. I plan to use it to take over the world. In retrospect, maybe everyone shouldn't read it if I'm going to do that. But back on topic, there's no shame in using an ambush to obtain victory. |

Wars are fought to win. Why would you refrain from ambushing a foe, if that would mean that you'd get ten spears up your arse? I choose my life and my victory above that of the enemy, generally speaking. So as long as you can fight honorably and win that's good, but if I can save lives on my own side, or even the enemy's side, by backstabbing, ambushing and deceiving, then why would I waste lives? War is not playtime. Wars come because people's ideals/ideas clash, and that results in them wanting to kill your side, and vice versa. If you want fair play, lock yourself up in your room and play Pong all day, since not much else is fair in life. No offense to anyone, just my 2 cents. |

Ok, hypothetically, Jason is trying to kill you. He has his machete. You have the opportunity to hide in the closet and stab his throat with a half-inch pocketknife, or you can face him in the hall, where it's you and your half-inch poker vs. a much stronger him and a three-foot sword. What will you do? |

As Zhang Liao stated, which is more important: Survival, during which you can redeem yourself and continue to help people, or death with the reputation of a valiant fool? |

Running is good, but ambush is better, IMO. While running, you could be caught and die an even worse death than if you fought, as a coward. However, ambush could give you victory, or at least death as a clever, brave individual, rather than a brave fool. |

To my knowledge Zhang He (? – 231) was a distinguished military general under the powerful warlord Cao Cao during the late Eastern Han Dynasty and Three Kingdoms era in ancient China. He began his military career when the Yellow Turban Rebellion erupted in 184 and subsequently served under Han Fu and Yuan Shao before defecting to Cao Cao during the Battle of Guandu. He participated in many major campaigns, including those against Yuan Tan, Ma Chao, Zhang Lu and Liu Bei. After Cao Cao's death in 220, Zhang He was primarily engaged with defending the Kingdom of Wei against the Northern Expeditions led by Chancellor Zhuge Liang of the Kingdom of Shu. He died from an arrow wound received during an encounter with Zhuge Liang's forces in 231. Famed for his resourcefulness that even Zhuge Liang was said to be wary about, Zhang He was considered by Chen Shou, author of the Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms, to be one of the top five generals of the Kingdom of Wei, among Yu Jin, Yue Jin, Zhang Liao and Xu Huang. He was also said to be full of respect for Confucian scholars even though he was uneducated himself. |

Zhang He is up there with my favorite Wei generals. He definiatley deserves to be in the top 5. He had an impressive record. He hardly had any defeats. He was there during alot of the campaigns. All in all Zhang He was definitley one of Wei's greatest generals. |

because the way he looks game-wise makes you think of him that way in history. Another example is Xu Zhu who was depicted as fat and dumb which was false, he was strong and smart. Thats "why". |

Zhang He actually did die from an arrow wound of an ambush, but thats because Sima Yi ordered him to go even though Zhang He advised him against it. |
