Prompt: To change is to risk something, making us feel insecure. Not to change, however, is a bigger risk, though we seldom feel that way. There is no choice but to change. People, however, cannot be motivated to change from the outside. All of our motivation comes from within. What motivates people to change?

We may not know it, but we have relied on change to get to this point in time. There have been many instances in history that signalled the beginning of a changing world. The Industrial Revolution, the fight against segregation in the United States, the Renaissance in Europe, and the Reconstruction after the Civil War, to name a few. Despire having the thought of change threatening us, humans are governed by change. We simply could not have reached this point in time without change.

When the British textile worker Samuel Slater boarded the ship that brought him to the United States in the early 1700s, this was the prelude that led the United States into the Industrial Revolution. At this time, Britain was the most technologically-advanced nation, but Slater changed all that and put the US in the lead. Slater's visit included ideas and advancements from Britain. From here, the Industrial Revolution had begun. From this point, technology changed the lived of everything. The Industrial Revolution changed farming (Cotton Gin), weapon-crafting (Interchangeable Parts), and transportation (railroads, steam engines, roads, canals).

In the 1500s, a similar change took place. Curious Europeans sparked the beginning of the Renaissance, another period of change. The only differences between the Renaissance and the Industrial Revolution are the locations and how the Renaissance focused solely on the development of new ideas, and not necessarily on how to improve one's quality of life. Several artists and writers emerged from the European Renaissance, including Michelangelo, Machiavelli, and several others. Michelangelo painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Machiavelli wrote two books, which were "The Prince" and "Don Quixote".

A thief, and stronger example, is the Black struggle against colored segregation in the United States. Heroes rose left and right, fighting racism. Rosa Parks was a Black woman who refused to give up her seat to a white person on a bus and was thrown in jail. Martin Luther King Jr. gathered blacks together and voiced their opinions against segregation to the white populace.

If not for all this, where would our lives be today?

It seems like you're going off on a tangent here. It's very well-written and scholarly, but evades the final question of the prompt, in my humble opinion.

I dunno. My SAT instructor said that it was well-developed.
He never told me that I didn't answer the prompt, however. It was meant to be a simple essay, instead of a rant or anything. (I don't do rants; that's Paradox's and Gryffin's job.)
