As for the game itself, I'm wondering if it will let you play both English and French from the bat or will have you play one before unlocking the other (like in Kessen 1 & 2 where you needed to clear one story before fighting battles for the opposing side).

The first battle on sea (can't quite recall it's name) was fought between King Richard III's navy and a French/Geonese navy. Oh they're Italians. I guess that makes sense. If they helped the French against the BRitish in naval combat though, how did they help the French lose?

Barbavera, led the Genoan mercenary fleet that reinforced the French fleet under Admiral Hugues Quiéret. Barbavera escaped and Quiéret was killed in the battle. They didn't help them lose, they were just there when they lost.

My friends and I have been talking about how cool it'd be if koei made a western based game for a very long time. I'd be willing to bet that the guy in Black Armor is Edward of Woodstock or "The Black Prince" and the woman in white with the flag has got to be Joan of Ark (the lilly in her hair is a dead giveaway). Though it's a bit of an anachronism since the Black Prince died like 55 years before Joan was born as I recall but that never stopped them in the past games so I doubt it'd stop them now. (not that I'm complaining). I really like knights so this game looks like it's pretty much the kind of game I could only have dreamt of before. I am so excited. Has there been much information released on it yet? I recall reading that the English Focused alot on Longbowmen especially under the Black Prince wile the French Focused mostly on Knights and hired geonese Crossbowmen as covering fire. Alot of the battles from what I've heard ended up sorta like Nagashino in Samurai Warriors. The French had the best Knights of the era and unfortunately for them they knew it. As a result many french knights were hot-headed, arrogant and eager for combat. At Crecy the English Longbowmen defeated the Goenese Crossbowmen due to the superior fire rate of Longbows. The french Knights were eager to take vengeance on the english and angry at the Geonese for acting "Cowardly" and actually Charged through the retreating Goenese killing many and unfortunately for the Knights they ran straight into a wall of arrows from the english and were defeated. Thats one battle I can recall reading about anyways.

Another decisive use of English longbowsmen against French cavalry, with palings (wood stakes) stuck in the ground to ward off cavalry charges while the archers would shoot them before they reached their lines through the defile. While both Crecy and Poitiers have the English strategy and firepower winning against mass French cavalry, Agincourt goes one step further with the palings, mirroring the palisades at Nagashino, with the English archers lining up behind them to shoot down the cavalry as they charged.
