島津 義弘
Shimazu Yoshihiro
1535 - 1619

Yoshihiro was the second son of 島津貴久 Shimazu Takahisa and the younger brother of 島津義久 Shimazu Yoshihisa. He was born in Kyushu and grew up to be an able general and devout Buddhist. Yoshihiro is recorded to have participated in more than 50 battles. His first great deed was in 1572, where he helped his older brother to defeat the Hyuga daimyo 伊東義祐 Itou Yoshisuke's 3000 troops with only 300 men at Kizakihara. Yoshihiro also fought at Takabaru (1576), Mimigawa (1576) and Minamata (1581).

When Hideyoshi set his eyes on Kyushu, Yoshihiro assisted his brother Yoshihisa against the Chousokabe and Toyotomi armies at Hetsugigawa. Yoshihisa won a grand victory there and unified Kyushu shortly afterwards. Eventually however, Hideyoshi sent his brother Hidenaga to do battle against the Shimazu and Hidenaga won substantial victories in Kyushu. Even after Yoshihisa surrendered to the Toyotomi, Yoshihiro continued to fight against Hidenaga. After he finally did surrender, Yoshihisa retired to become a Buddhist monk but kept some nominal power in his clan. Yoshihiro however rose to a more prominent position in the Shimazu house as daimyo.

Yoshihiro supported Ishida Mitsunari's west army during the battle of Sekigahara. Prior to the fight, Yoshihiro advised that Mitsunari should try a night attack on his enemy but this suggestion was ignored. At Sekigahara, Yoshihiro joined with his nephew 島津豊久 Shimazu Toyohisa but did not particularly distinguish himself. When the warring was over however, Yoshihiro knew that he would have no choice but to retreat in the face of the massive numbers of enemy troops. Yoshihiro initiated a ‘fighting retreat’ against Ieyasu's armies where he charged into the Tokugawa ranks to try to exit through his opponent’s formation. his unit was almost totally wiped out and Toyohisa was slain in the fighting but nevertheless, Yoshihiro successfully retreated and his soldiers even severely wounded one of the Tokugawa Shitenou, Ii Naomasa. Yoshihiro then fled back to Kyushu via ship. Ieyasu was very impressed with Yoshihiro's bravery and ability and let the Shimazu keep their territory in Kyushu. Even though Yoshihiro was forced to retire, Ieyasu installed Yoshihiro's son 忠恒 Tadatsune as the Shimazu successor. Yoshihiro lived the rest of his life in peace and died at the old age of 84.

長宗我部/長曾我部 元親
Chousokabe Motochika
1539 - 1599

Previously nicknamed 姫若子 Himewakako (Little Princess) for being a gentle-hearted boy during his childhood, but after he showed his might in battle, that nickname changed to 鬼若子 Oniwakako (Little Demon). Son of 国親 Kunichika. He was the daimyo of 土佐 Tosa, a province of Shikoku.

At first his father doubted his worth as an heir, however Motochika proved it in the Battle of Nagahama (1560) where he led a charge of 50 horsemen against the 本山 Motoyama army. At first, Tosa was owned by the 一条 Ichijo clan, but the daimyo at the time, 兼定 Kanesada, was known as a cruel daimyo. The Chousokabe then attempted to take the province from the unpopular daimyo in 1573, and succeeded in 1575.

After assuming control of Tosa, the daimyo who had a dream to control the entire Shikoku campaigned against 伊予 Iyo province, which was ruled by the 河野 Kouno clan. The campaign ended with success to the Chousokabe in 1580. Then in 1582, the clan subdued 三好 Miyoshi's 阿波 Awa province. And finally in 1583, Motochika proceeded to conquer 讃岐 Sanuki province owned by the 十河 Sogou. The campaign succeeded and Motochika's dream had became a reality.

However his fulfilled dream only lasted for not too long. In June 1585, Toyotomi Hideyoshi launched a full-scale attack on Shikoku, which army's number and techhnology were no match for the Chousokabe. Motochika agreed to surrender to Hideyoshi, and as a compensation, he was let alive and allowed to keep his Tosa province. He also aided Hideyoshi in the subjugation of Kyushu and northern Honshu.

He was married to 菜々 Nana, daughter of 斉藤利三 Saitou Toshimitsu, a loyal Akechi retainer. The oldest four of his sons were 信親 Nobuchika, 親和 Chikakazu, 親忠 Chikatada and 盛親 Morichika. At first, the eldest Nobuchika was appointed as Motochika's heir. However he met his unfortunate death during the Kyushu campaign. Surprisingly, Motochika then appointed Morichika as heir, skipping Chikakazu and Chikatada. The reason is still unknown, but it could be because Chikakazu had been adopted by the 香川 Kagawa, and Chikatada, the 津野 Tsuno. It is also said that Morichika had a better personality than his brothers.

北条 氏政
Hojo Ujimasa
1538 - 1590

The 4th daimyo of the Hojo clan, owner of the famous 小田原 Odawara Castle. Son of 氏康 Ujiyasu, one of the greatest daimyos of the time. He made an alliance with the Takeda while sending reinforcements to 上杉影虎 Uesugi Kagetora (Who was his brother, 氏秀 Ujihide) who was fighting against Uesugi Kagekatsu in a civil war. However, the reinforcements didn't arrive in time, and after Kagetora's death, relation between the Hojo and Uesugi worsened. Relation with the Takeda was also soured after the latter formed an alliance with the Uesugi. This resulted in some battles between the Takeda and Hojo.

Hojo would then join the Oda and Tokugawa in invading the weakened Takeda. However, tensions with the Oda would also increase, after the retainers captured some forts located in the Hojo territory. Ujimasa would regain them though after Nobunaga's death. He made a peace treaty with Ieyasu and alloted some land in Kai and Shinano. The Toyotomi who was near to the unification asked the Hojo to surrender since 1588, but Ujimasa opposed that, although he had been urged by Ieyasu. Hideyoshi would finally invade Hojo in 1590, besieging Odawara Castle. After the battle ended for the Toyotomi's victory, Hideyoshi would order Ujimasa and most of his retainers to commit seppuku.

毛利 元就
Mouri Motonari
1497 - 1571

Daimyo of 安芸 Aki, a province of Chugoku region. He was considered one of the most formidable daimyos. Not only he was a cunning strategist, he was also a poet and patron to the arts.

The Mouri was once allied with the 大内 Oouchi clan until 尼子経久 Amago Tsunehisa came to invade Aki, when the Mouri would switch their allegiance - although for a short time. When the Mouri has made themselves one of the big clans in Aki, they returned to the Oouchi. Motonari created alliances with many strong Aki warlords, and even allowed the 吉川 Kikkawa to adopt 元春 Motoharu and 小早川 Kobayakawa to adopt 隆景 Takakage. In 1551 the 大内 Oouchi were destroyed by the rebellious 陶晴賢 Sue Harukata. 3 years later, Motonari would challenge Harukata by tricking him into executing one of his best retainers and luring his army to Miyajima, where his army would be destroyed by Mouri.

Motonari would retire in favor of his son 隆元 Takamoto. The Mouri then attempted to expand into Northern Kyushu -clashing with the 大友 Ootomo clan-, Iwami and Izumo provinces. However, during the campaign, Takamoto died in 1563, forcing Motonari to return as daimyo. When the Mouri had successfully conquered Izumo, Motonari would finally retire for good and leave the rest to his grandson 輝元 Terumoto.

Motonari was famous for his 三本の矢 Three Arrows quote. One day, he taught his three children (Takamoto, Motoharu & Takakage). After he had given them a piece of arrow for each, he ordered them to break the arrows, and they did it without any difficulties. Afterwards, he gave three pieces of arrows to each children. The three of them did the same, but were unable to break the three arrows. Motonari then said, "A single arrow is easily breakable, however when three of them are joined together, they become strong and hard to break."

宮本 武蔵
Miyamoto Musashi
1584 - 1645

Born in Harima province as Shinmen Takezo. The famed author of 五輪の書 Gorin no Sho (Book of the Five Rings); he fought in over 60 duels and never lost. His first opponent as a certain Arima Kihei, whom he defeated at the age of 13 by beating him to death. At the age of 17, he supposedly fought as a common fought as a common foot Soldier under the 宇喜多 Ukita of the Western Army. He was also reported to have fought at the Siege of Osaka; however, the side for which he fought for is unknown.

Musashi’s many duels were generally fought in the Kyoto region. One of his most famous moments is the constant bouts and fights he had with the Yoshioka School. After permanently disabling Seijuro, the headmaster at the time with a wooden sword, he would go on to kill both Seijuro’s brother Denshichiro and Denshichiro’s son. After the defeat of the Yoshioka brothers, Musashi would battle the vengeful Yoshioka students (Some 40+ swordsman) at the Ichijoji Pine, winning in the end. Musashi was reported to have first got the idea for his 二天一流 Niten-Ichi-ryu style here (Niten being two heavens and Ichi meaning one. So quite literally ‘two heavens as one.’)

Musashi would go on to fight many duels. Some of which being with the famed Spear master Inei, the Kusarigama weilder Shishido Baiken, and his most famous one till this day: Sasaki Kojirou. Musashi and Kojirou had their epic fight at an Island later renamed to 巌流島 Ganryujima in honor of Kojiro. Musashi reportedly showed up some 3 hours after the set time of bout and sent taunts towards Kojiro as he arrived (Musashi used the psychology of coming late, taunts, etc etc in many of his bouts.) Musashi was also noted to have fashioned a wooden Bokken slighty longer than Kojirou’s already long sword from an Oar on the boat as he made his way to Kojirou. As Musashi arrived, Kojirou threw his sheath in the water. Musashi taking note supposedly said ‘You have lost. Kojirou. Why would the winner throw away his sheath if he did not come ready to win?’

Musashi would later retire under the service of the 細川 Hosokawa. Taking a simple life, Musashi often dwelled in silence as he reflected on his past and what he did to become a master of the Way.

1. Satan took the idea of a KW Database for the Koei games from Alex and partially myself and made it into ShinSan Goku Database.

2. WTF. He and Gryffin are getting ALL the praise for being geniuses and the like. 'OMFG dey r smart lol <3 u 2 lol nice job guyz'. I mean really, they have a site, Chin made them a banner, etc etc. They are literally getting ALL the attention and praise. It's just mind blowing to me. Alex had his started and going before them. >______>

3. I'm not 'hating' or trying to start a fight with Slick by any means. I'm not trying to take claim for this idea by any means. I like Slick moreso than other members. My main concern is just that the Sangoku Project is becoming like the head ship that's propelling KW into the Database area. WTFH. ALEX DINO AND THE SENGOKU PROJECT need to be first. It was started first and ended first.

You may think I'm acting like a child here, but I'm not. 'Give credit where credit is due' works here. At least give some attention to Alex and his project. The Sangoku database wouldnt even be here without Alex and his Sengoku Database.

At least give some praise to Alex if nothing else.

(PS: I dont hate nor am angry with Slick.)

1.) I didn't bother with making this site just because of you actually. I had made two sites, a Sengoku Database (the link of which I posted above) and a Sangoku Database long ago. I had made two bios on the Sangoku one, a Yuan Shu biography and a Ma Chao biography, but had decided to eliminate that site after being received by Kongming Archives. Then when you mentioned you were doing a Sengoku project I figured that I should revive my old site (which means republishing it on tripod) and give it another chance. It's true that the idea was sparked after you said you were doing something similar, but the Sangoku Database site itself had existed way before (I'm not sure who you could ask about this but I might have posted something on The Scholars a while ago) and I had been making three kingdoms biographies and even a few poorly done Sengoku-Jidai biographies for months prior to the mention that Alex was creating a project.

2.) Again I'll tell you what I said before: Make your own site if you want. It's not that easy to be honest and even harder if you have no experience in web design like me. For you it would probably be easier though and I encourage you to develop your own. I'll affiliate with ya too. :D

3.) I'll gladly give you credit where it is due on my site. As for other people, the reason why people aren't highly praising your project is because you haven't posted anything on it, you haven't made a thread for feedback, etc., etc.

1. I know your site was made already and I know all of it's history. It's just that, for one, you even took the name of Alex's project (He didnt make it, but you still used it). You reviived your site after hearing (Notice: AFTER HEARING) about Alex's. That's where I see the somewhat 'rip-off' factor.

2. I dont want to and I'm sure Alex doesnt want to. It's just the fact that Chin and everyone are giving you loads and tons of praise for this while Alex get's jack.

3. The information is up and the thread running. And I would've liked to make a topic here, but only Admins are allowed to do so.

It's just the fact that Alex has gotten nothing. At least he should get some sort of praise or a 'Job well done' from someone.

1.) I didn't take the name 'Sangoku Database' from Alex. That was the name of the site before I got the idea to revive it. But for the record, note the edit made to my post. I have accredited Alex. Click the link in my former post and you'll see what I edited in. If you want me to add more, post in this thread and I will likely put whatever else you want me to put in the credits section.

2.) Alex will get praise, he just needs to post the biographies. I mean wtf dude? You can't just expect people to shower him with praise for something that he hasn't shown them. It's like if I expected people to congratulate me for my half-finished Legend of the Sun videogame idea that I haven't revealed to anybody.

3.) Use this topic and post whatever you want.

1. The thread made for it? >_>

2. It's not and dont. All I'm saying is that you used it and just switched Sengoku for Sangoku.

My main point Slick is the fact that everyone seems to think you started this whole KW database craze regardless of you crediting Alex (No one reads credits anyway >_>).

'No, he didnt start it first. ALEX made a database project for KW first. TOGETHER with the Sangoku database is what makes up the KW Database in general. TOGETHER, with ALEX leading the way.'

It's all I'm trying to say. I'm not angry with you Slick nor do I want you to change any part of your Sangoku thing. I like it the way it is.
