SW2:E is a good game, but Sw2 is it's equal. it depends on whether you want to play story modes and get involved with the characters, or play a strategy game that only lightly touches on the characters stories. i like both at different times. but SW1 and XL are far better than either, IMO.

I would pretty much agree with this until the last sentence, in which I don't think the same.

They are great games, but not as good as SW2 when it comes to gameplay.

I prefer SW1 and SW1XL in some ways. The Infiltration levels for instance, and the storylines generally were better.

Anyway, back on topic...
SW2:E is good, but it isn't great.
SW2 has much more replay value, and has a lot more that you can actually do in it. More interesting as well.

SW2:E gives you more variation in what you can do, but is just a bit boring after a few weeks of playing it, whereas SW2 can last ages and even once you've completed the game you can continue playing not getting too bored.
SW2:E, though is similar for some people, can also get very annoying. After quite a lot of years in game time, in Chaos mode, the enemies can 1 shot you...annoying as hell. Even a character with Maxed stats and all skills Level 3/4 can get 1 shoted -_-

I have SW2E but I much prefer SW2. To be honest im not a fan of the empires games they seem to get repetitive after a while but I still like them. I've not had it for that long so im not very far

Haha. I just play normal mode. That's like the equivalent to SW:XL's chaos mode. In Free mode though you can like not give the other side a lot of generals and just run them over on chaos and get a lot of high atts that way >=p.

I hate Empires.

Honestly, I cleared it and sold it after a week. I can see why people would like it, but can't understand how it could be better than SW2. It was so dull... it was just doing the same stuff over and over again. And it's not like the "tactical action" was that great. I liked telling people what to do, and using formations but apart from that it was as repetitive as any other Empires game. And since I have DW4E, there was really no need to keep SW2E

I think Samurai Warriors 2: Empires is an outstanding game and definitely on par with the original, if not better in my opinion.

Of the Empires games to date (DW4, DW5 & SW2) it's clearly by far the best of them, and it was also nice to get the NPC's of Katsuie & Kojiro to use as well, albeit with mixed movesets.

In fact, I probably logged more hours into this as opposed to the original version of the game; I've managed to finish all the pre-set scenarios at least once. The range of tactics and planning/strategy in the game for me just adds that unique element which keeps me even more addicted. Admittedly it's probably because I typically like Strategy/RPG style games over all else, just like how I believe Kessen III is the best Koei game - it combines action/strategy magnificently.

Having the ability to pick a different officer each battle is great; I often swapped between several of them including Sakon, Tadakatsu, Ieyasu, Oichi, Nagamasa, Ginchiyo & Kotaro the most, while the others to break it up occasionally as well.

It also features some nice story moments in between based on who you recruit, I recall soon after recruiting Ranmaru and already having Magoichi we get yet another classic line of him trying to hit on Ranmaru, "!! But I'm a man!".

It has everything if you ask me, I prefer Empires types to the main version of the Warriors games all the time.

i agree entirely with Fayt, with pretty much all he said.

I love that little added strategy in the empires games, but i guess its just not enough for me, since power can win it anyways, just like in the others, not making it much different <_<

but....i guess we cant all get what we want

i love playing through all the scenarios, and using created warriors to wreak havok amongst all the real people :ph43r: :evil laugh:

I have no preference as to what my favorite game is, so long as that certain game delivers what it is supposed to deliver.

I have played Samurai Warriors 2: Empires, and I liked its AI. But what I really liked from that game was the interaction of the different characters. For me, that really set apart Empires from the Original SW2. I still remember Shingen's dialogue with Kanetsugu and Masamune.

Not only that, but Kessen III's cinematics, storyline or not, for me, is one of the best features that a game has to offer. It plays out like a movie, my friend once commented, but I don't mind. Those cinematics were gorgeous.

Sw2: E was boring to me. Played it for two days and was sick of it. That's probably because I prefer storyline more than game play, Empires is just about game play, with a little humorous anecdotes thrown in to keep you interested. Didn't keep me interested though.

I never really liked the Empires games. I don't know why. I really don't like stratagie(sp?) games. I only like DW4E but I don't like it any more. I probably would have liked it if it played more like DW4 then I probably would have liked it more...

You must be more like me then. It seems that we both prefer to have our stories laid-out in front of us. I don't mind the Empires expansions since it's DW/SW, etc, but still, much prefer to listen and progress through a story rather than make my own.

@Suki: Your post has summed it up quite well. But I personally still played it for a long time.

how about the game is either hard to get or impossible to get in some country's?
Hell i wish koei would for a change open up their market more to europe (im from the netherlands) but thing is most games are never sold in stores here and extremely hard to get by..

Im still trying to get Samurai warriors 1 for example, xtreme legends i do have but its barely any fun without part 1 sigh..

Same goes for samurai warriors 2 xtreme legends, i wish i had it but i just cant get it.

empires i do have but i really dislike it, i like a sense of atmosphere.. the feudal japan scenery really appeals to me so i also disliked orochi warriors with its devil kings kind of setting, its such a shame.. empires has no real storyline either, well it does but its all the same the same the same, same movies same weapons same characters bleh, generic officers arent fun either... still some people do like these gametypes as empires but i can imagine some people simply cannot buy it the same reason i cannot buy SW1 and 2 xtreme legends.

Samurai Warriors Empires

Is a waste of money, time and pretty much everything else, I played it 8 hours total and took it back. Its for some people I guess, but If anything it made me appreacite & love SW2 that much more :D .

I dont like really anything about Empires except that you can choose who you attack, but everything else about the game is annouying & really pointless in my opinion. Wish they just did XL's & forgot about Empires all together.

Or to put it more blunt.... It doesn't matter how you setup each battle for yourself, your going to win ethier way because there is only one way to lose in Empires, your main camp is taken. Also its not as much fun playing your favorite SW2 characters in Empires for a few reasons everyone listed above.

Exactly my opinio, both games are unique and got thier own taste but SW2 got more replayability value which Empires lack.

Well, I liked but got bored of it... I tried to get everyone's complete skill (yes including the generic ones) and maxed stats (again, yes) but it seems so hard... I finished about 60% of all characters (yes again about the generics), so hard!

And after i cleared it,it got boring.

But now i want to play it again,so i think that it gets boring after a while.
But then i miss it,so i say it's a good game but not great.

The game is good with some funny dialogs before and after the battle and it's a lot better than DW5 Empires too but I still prefer SW2. I think people don't talk about it simply because it's an expansion game which basically the same game to SW2 with some strategy elements added to it!

I sorta like SW2:E...
But, after a while, you run out of things to do.
I do like setting alliances, and then breaking them, just to obtain there kingdom though, that never gets old for me.
I do wish the C-A-W mode was more like the DW versions.
I mean, really....pre-set models, with limited weapons to choose from?
Not cool. <_<

This was showing KOEI's complete lazyness, for instance, Kojiro's MS is a mixture of all the sword users, and it looks stupid if the S combo is not finished. Also if you create a cracter with the special skill of 'create a defencive shield', after the special stance (Ranmaru's) you are in the air doing Nobunaga's shield, lame... -_- (there are many more, just look for them, it's not tht hard, believe me..)

SW2E for me is the kinda game to just unlock stuff...then be done with it.

There are so many unlockable stuff in the game, from the historical battles to character dialogs, which in itself can be pretty random at times.

Unlike the mainline SW's, this one is really only fun in 2-player. It's fun debating strategies with the map and splitting off and activating tactics in battles, but by yourself the fun is lost quickly.

I didn't play this game for as long as I wanted to, which is a shame seeing as how I made such a big deal about buying it. I played it for a week and 3 days before putting it away.

I don't know, I guess it's just too repetitive. You basically do the same thing every time you play. There's no structure to the battles, that can get boring after a while. It's also too easy to conquer the land since nobody other than you bothers to go for more than 4 pieces of land. I'm always the leader in land ownership because no other force bothers to extend their empire beyond the 2 or 3 provinces they own.

Another thing I didn't like all that much was the amount of generic clans that had their own territory. I know nothing of the Sengoku period and seeing all of these generic clans I've never heard of made me sad.

It also makes me mad that they never move their ruler away from their enemy borders. The land can be divided between 2 forces and instead of moving their ruler to the farthest point away from the enemy, they keep them right on the border. Even when it's obvious I'm going to attack the ruler's province, he doesn't move. That takes away some of the fun since you're not really taking over the provinces, you fight 1-2 battles with a particular clan until you capture their ruler. I've never had to fight more than 3 battles with one particular clan (not including defending my provinces). It's always "take land, now I have an open spot to invade their ruler's land, beat ruler". It's never "take land, they move their ruler so I have to fight 4-5 more battles to get to him". That's insane.

Not to mention it also eats up memory card space. It takes up 690 something KB, that's crazy. It takes up more space then every other DW/SW game I have for the console. I only have 1 memory card for all of my games (I have a small collection, around 20 games) and I can't afford 1 game to take that much space up. But, I'd rather not delete it.

Here's hoping SW2XL won't eat up memory card space....

---------------------------

But let's look at the positive, shall we?

I had a lot of fun for the majority of my time with the game. I always liked the Empires games, so I knew this one would be the best of the 3. I love all of the new tactics, and I love how it ends. The whole "giving the 5 most important characters recognition" thing is great.

I also like how your allies can rebel and declare independence. Yukimura did that to me once and I was pissed. He took away Kotaro Fuma (my most leveled up character in that game) and Mitsunari. But I squashed that rebellion and took back my territory. I ended up hiring all 3 officers back to my forces, lol. Another similar story, I chose the Hojo clan and I lost one of the battles to defend my territory. I was playing as Ujimasa Hojo and since we lost, he got captured. He ended up joining the enemy forces. I was invaded again but this time I won. The officer I capture was none other than Ujimasa. I executed him, as they probably would of done if this were to of actually happened in real life. Payback's a b***h, lol.

I also love the regional fights, it adds more to the game. It makes you feel like you deserve to be on the national map since you earned your spot there. I love the ability to choose your own song to play during battles, and having SW1 choices there. It makes my day being able to play at Kawanakajima with the "Conquest for Kyushu" theme, or at Mikatagara with the "SW1 Kawanakajima" theme. It's a nice touch that I hope to see again in future titles.

I've never actually played the ficitional custom map in the game yet, but talking about the game makes me want to go back and do so. You know what, I think I will. :P

@SnowMan: They should of made the AI more intelligent, moving place-to-place, I agree. It did take the fun out when the commander wouldn't move when he had land or a small enemy force that he could easily take behind him. I would of liked it to be more of a 'corner the enemy into the last area, scenario' most of the time.

One feature that was amusing, was the execution. The sound it made was just funny to me, I didn't expect it to happen like that at first. Don't ask me why though.

That's exactly what I'm saying, thanks for agreeing with me.

I agree, I loved the sound it made too. But the best execution sound came from DW5E. I loved how that one sounded. That's a little twisted, I know, lol.
