I'm surprised to see that there isn't topic about these games .

My first Castlevania ever was Castlevania 2: Simon Quest for NES. I really liked from it but because I was still a kid when I played it, I wasn't so good in it >_>. A while ago I downloaded all three NES Castlevanias and finished them.
Castlevania 1 and 3: Dracula's Curse were great too. 1st because it's so simple, challenging and fun to play. In 3rd, I liked how you could choose the routes and play different stages each time you play the game through. Allies were also a nice addition to game, although I still haven't found Alucard <_<. Still, 2nd remains as my favourite due to reasons it's most different from the three and has some RPG elements in it. I also find Simon as best member in Belmont clan >_>.

Currently I'm playing Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance with my GBA. It's not bad game either, I just hate it how big the castle is and you need to walk so much.

//Oops >_>. There's already topic about this (although it's quite old) so mods can remove this and put my message there, if they want to:

Ah... Castlevania. Other than the Musou/Basara series and Fire Emblem, this is the series I am hooked at. This series rules, PERIOD.

HoD may be bad in people's eyes, but it's still pretty iconic to me, considering that it's the first CV I finished and the game that got me addicted to Castlevania series.

I like all CVs equally. Also, the music rules, especially Bloody Tears.

You're talking about Soma Cruz from Castlevania: Aria and Dawn of Sorrow. He's my favorite Castlevania main character.

Aria of Sorrow isn't bad either. Absorbing the skills of monsters is fun and the camera is not so close to character, allowing you to see better than in HoD.

Forget the new r.p.g. ones ( well, don't actually, they're still darn good ) but back in the straight up platforming days of Super Castlevania 4, Vampire's Kiss and Generations is where I'm at. Yes, the soundtracks are incredible, Bloodlines is one of the greates tunes known to the world of computer games. Man, just remembering Dracula X's soundtrack: 1st level - Bloodlines, 2nd level - Vampire Killer, 3rd level - Bloody Tears, someone on the team actually sold their soul to satan to get it that good. Still, I want to try some of the older ones on the NES and GB if possible, I've been told they're solid games.

The only games I've played from this series are Bloodlines on the Sega Genesis and Symphony of the Night on the Playstation. I did very much like both however, and have been interested in the other games. Are the recent ones anywhere near as good as Symphony of the Night?

now that was a series I liked to play. I was obsessed with that game even if the dealer who i bought the game from said that it was a boy's game not a girl's game.

I like the ones on the GBA the best (well, I like Symphony of the Night more, I guess). I like most of the series, even some of the new 3D ones (Curse of Darkness, not Lament of Innocence).

Lament of Innocence is really bland, but Curse of Darkness implemented some really interesting ideas (you have demons, you can make parts out of materials, and there are several types of weapon types that allow for different fighting styles) and made fighting more interesting, so I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I love Castlevania as well. I was started on Symphony of the Night but I quickly went back and played some of the older games, as well as moving on and playing the handheld versions and some of the modern 3d versions.

Speaking of that, Konami is going to release Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles for the PSP to NA. It has a full port of Dracula X: Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night with better localization. But the main piece is the 3d remake of Rondo of Blood ala Megaman Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X. Ayami Kojima returns to give the characters in Rondo of Blood new character designs likening to that to Symphony of the Night, Lament of Innocence, and Curse of Darkness. And of course the music has been redone as well. This is going to be one excellent piece of gaming.

I don't have SOTN on hand but I can help out if GameFaqs doesn't satisfy you.

The trick with Richter is that you have to be extra careful. Alucard is the main attraction in this one while Richter is a side road for kicks. Thus, he doesn't have any items or familiars to help him out like Alucard. Richter is just a throwback on the old school Castlevania playing style. You have to hone your arcade platforming skills to make it through with him.

Ah, finally i find this thread :)
I knew this game for the first by watching my big brother playing Castlevania : Symphony of the night on the computer
Then i played this game for the first time in PS2.. I played Lament of Innocence as Leon with cheats of course, coz i didnt much liking action game at that time
Then i played LOI again as Joachim without cheats.. Ow man, he is teh coolest vampire that i ever knew
Floating, white hair, and cool outfit :)
Anyone has played joachim and pumpkin in LOI series?

I played Curse of Darkness too, without cheats.. It was really fun
I think this game is a little bit similar with Chaos Legion.. Coz you are strong if your summon is strong
I beat the final boss with the clown like summon (twinkle??).. Hector didnt need to hit him with his weapon at all.. Looks like not many ppl playing these 2 series :)

Curse OF Darkness and Lament Of Innocence were both very good games if you ask me, very unfairly treated by people in general. Sadly I was never actually able to beat either of them, I didn't have a good enough Familiar in COD and I just wasn't good enough to beat Death in Lament Of Innocence, even though I beat the Forgotten One.

Yup, sadly Portrait Of Ruin is the only one so far that I've actually been able to beat. :(

Yeah, many ppl said that 3D Castlevania is bad.. But, i think it isnt that bad.. Better than Drakengard 2 in my opinion :)

Oh my, you havent finished COD yet? It's easier than LOI if you get strong familiar like Corpsey, the bone like summon.. I forgot how to get it.. In gamefaqs there's Familiar FAQ if i'm not wrong ^^

You beaten Forgotten One but could not defeat Death??? Isnt FO is the hardest boss in LOI.. Cant compare it, coz i defeated both with cheats XD
But, with Joachim i can only proceed until 2nd part of FO and havent defeated Death yet

I want to play Aria of Sorrow, Concerto in the Midnight Sun and the newest series of Castlevania in PSP (i forgot the title XD).. But, dont have any portable consoles u_u

That's what I was under the impression of! It still surprises ( and greatly disappoints ) me to this day that I couldn't beat Death. :( I really enjoyed the game as well.

As for the hand-held ones, they can be a mixed bag. The PSP remake of Rondo Of Blood is pretty fun, and even better since it comes with the original and Symphony Of The Night! Portrait Of Ruin was also very good, and my favourite 2D Castlevania since SOTN, possibly even since the 16-bit games. The other ones I've played are fun enough but nothing special:

Harmony Of Dissonance - Pretty good fun but I've just got this point where I have no idea where I'm meant to go, part of the reason why I prefer the old-style linear platformers.

Aria Of Sorrow - Reasonable but I don't really enjoy it as much as Harmony, there seems to be a real lack of boss creatures for one thing, I've covered a fair bit of the map and have only encountered 4 or so bosses.

Dawn Of Sorrow - Boo. Lots of people seem to like it but I found it to be a grind fest, constantly trying to find souls which you had a random chance of picking up. Some nice boss creatures to fight against though.

Forgetting this one XD
I defeated Death with Leon + cheats XD
I havent tried defeating Death using Joachim :)

Woah! Looks like you have played many of castlevania series, sunny :)
I dont have GBA, NDS, and PSP, so i didnt play much of this series :(

Hey, there's a new castlevania series.. Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, i believe.. it has a female main characters
It's a rare one, you know.. she has black hair too o.O
Usually caastlevania has a main with white hair as their main characters, correct? It's for NDS, i think :)
