This game is decent . Difficulty of the boss fights is a bit screwed up though. I'm playing Shiga's 6th stage in Story mode and in the 1st cave you face 4 Brutes alone (they are giants who wield a freaking huge kitchen knife). You can't find health anywhere and even one hit from them hurts. If you fight them face to face you're dead so your only option is to use hit-and-run tactic (which rarely works) or Jump magic. Anyway, they killed me and when I chose continue I had lost all the experience I had gathered >_>. How lame is that. |

I've always wanted to play this game, cuz I heard it was basicly a DW Lite...Regardless, it looks fun.
I'm about to throw in a bid for the PS2 version on ebay, and hopefully make it my second ebay win. I just let a Euro Tales of Eternia slip out of my hands, yeesh. >_> |

It is fun, but it's a lot more magical than DW. Every character has a magical affiliation. Also, in addition to fighting soldiers, you'll fight monsters and stuff. The bosses can get pretty hard given that they're not always just ordinary generals that you fight (you also encounter massive beasts like 'the roc,'). Most people like Shiga (who looks like Gan Ning), but I preferred Tai (who has stronger magic). Least favorite character was Lani. The characters move/attack slower than in DW, but the really big field battles feel more like you're fighting a real battle than in DW where you can just rip through everything. Some levels are less like field battles and more like dungeons, which keeps things interesting. There are also mini-games that you can do/sometimes have to do every now and then. Edit-There are also a lot of secrets and the game is more like an RPG (if you use certain spells a lot, they'll level up). |

Won the bid. Now to get off my ass and make some money orders! I've ALWAYS wanted to try the game. I knew about the magic aspect, and it sounded pretty neat. Hard bosses? I'm looking foward to these challenging bosses. I value getting killed in a video game as a plus. I'll think I'll start by using Naja, because you didn't even mention her at all. >_> LOL OFF TOPIX: This copy of ToE was confirmed to be a Volt Glitch Free copy. I'm paranoid about buying the game (which for GOD KNOWS WHY was never released in USA) because a few of the early copies have a glitch about halfway through, which basicly makes you unable to proceed past Volt (a boss). The bug was caught fairly early, and revised editions were sent out, but I'm SSSOOO paranoid that I might get a bad copy. I see another auction for a ToE PSP, but its unopened and "brand new". I dunno how new that new is, so I'm reluctant to bid on it! Argh, what ever shall ah do.

I've never heard of that glitch. Also, I thought that the other character's name was Raja. I remember the characters are Tai, Raja/Naja (one or the other, I guess), Lani and Shiga, and their elemental affinities are lightning, Fire, Ice and Wind respectively. Shiga has some a good jumping wind magic and stuff, but Tai's magic is better for crowd-clearing from what I remember. And Raja or Naja or whatever her name is has great crowd-clearing ability from what I remember but I don't really like her because I thought Tai's magic was stronger overall. Also her attacks kind of leave her vulnerable a lot/are slower. |

Naja is the girl with the spear and good crowd clearing then. She uses fire. Way better than the other chick. |

Funny that a guy without the game knows about the unloxables eh? >_> Lani, aka "the other chick", has a pretty awful&tacky costume. She loses points for that alone. When filling out my payment, I chose the fast shipping, so after I take my arse to the postoffice tomorrow, hopefully it will show up at mine doorsteps soon. : ) |

Naja never wore a shoe in KOEI's Houshinengi series (there are 4 series so far - only one made it to oversea which is called Mystic Heroes) I think. I have played Aizhouban Houshinengi it was the first Mystic Heroes game that is like Final Fantasy Tactics, the music is so good. I like Mystic Heroes because of the story, game structure and the boss fight which is quite different from the usual Warriors series. Too bad KOEI concentrate too much on the Warriors games lately and abandoned too much of their projects. Some old KOEI games are still very cool, though. Best Regards, Kai |

I think it's unnecessary to start a whole new thread for this game, so I'll just bump this one. I only have the GC version, trying to get a hold of the PS2 version. As for the characters... Naja is a monster, nothing stops her except those "Anti-phys" brutes. With the speed boosting rune, she can fill her magic meter up in no time against these and then just keep spamming till they're dead. Not to mention how insane her attack speed gets- and with her strength... Well, she has some problems with some bosses- namely the ones you rely on the Target spell. Since she is only reliant on close combat, fire is a good natural affinity for her. I'd argue Ice and Lightning working better though, with their ability to handicap the enemy so badly. Still, I'd say she is the best character not counting the boosting runes. Tai is decent, not more- until you get the speed rune. Now he's a monster in the only area he was lacking in. Well, he still jumps like ****, but who cares. Until he gets that rune, he kinda falls behind the others due to his sucky speed- Even Shiga, who has worse stats everywhere but in speed makes for a better Fighter/Mage(though Tai still outmatch Shiga due to his much superior spells). When he gets the rune, he's the best character in the game. Sure, Naja still wipes the field the easiest, but Tai can do that great now, as well as easily take on the bosses Naja struggles with. His affinity is great too- since he is slow, he likes target spells, and lightning dominates this area with Bolt. Also, it slows his enemies down- fixing his speed weakness. Lani- She is awesome as long as she doesn't get in close before freezing her foes. Her spells do a lot of damage, and her only real weakness is that you run out of MP. Still, when you get that magic restoring rune she becomes a monster. In theory, she could arguably be even better than speedboosted tai with that. The problem is, you have to keep away and regain magic- and not go in close at all. A valid tactic, but I find it boring. Ice- An awesome affinity for her if you want to get in close. I don't. Still, when you get Glacier Freeze, it's all nice and well- it's the most damaging spell in the game- and not only do Lani have the best magic power, but she gets to use this earlier than the others too. In general, fire would be her best affinity- large hitboxes and damage on the meteors makes for an awesome Lani. Shiga- ...I feel kinda sad for him. He is the second slowest character in the game, and the slower one masssacres him in all stats, badly- and has a way around being slow. Shiga can't dominate the enemy the way Naja does in close- His defense is rather low and his HP unimpressive. He also has a rather failure magic attack. In the end, when you get the "boost runes", he also gets the least out of them- Lani gets her magic restore and become a demon artillery unit. Tai loses the only thing that kept him from being a perfect mix of close combat and magic, and Naja now slaughters enemies even faster. Shiga gets faster? Naja uses it more efficiently, and Tai even more. Magic restore? On a character with mediocre mag... it kinda sucks. Finally, he has the Wind affinity... which is bad. While the direct spells are fast, that's the only really good thing. It has low power- hence it doesn't help him catch up to Naja and Tai on the phys side, or even close to Lani and Tai on the magical. Also, it has the worst status infliction, barring fire(but fire is so strong it makes up for it). Shiga is the guy who was meant to be all-round... Instead he is outclassed in everything by more effective units with better affs. His only hope for rescue, the buffing spells, just makes him even worse in comparison to his allies. Shiga is the worst character in the game due to this. |

I loved this game back when I owned a Gamecube. Too bad they didn't inculde the hidden characters though. I think Koei should incoorperate more magic into their DW and SW series. It worked very well here.

Here in 2009, that thing has to be way under the radar. Very sure they stopped making prints for it a long time ago as well. I wouldn't have even heard of this game had my cousin not brought it over when he came to visit from Chicago. He only had the game cause I was the one to introduce Koei' Musou franchise to them over there in the first place, so even less likely I would've heard of this game if I didn't bring DW3 with me to chicago in 02 |
