i've been trying to find a website that has good dynasty/samurai warriors cosplays, but i can't find any. it makes sense since the koei scene is kinda blank in cosplay. specifically, i'm trying to find a zhou yu (DW4 ver.) or a mori ranmaru (SW2 ver.) cosplay. anyone have any website suggestions? thanks a lot! ((ps: if i don't reply, then email me at wavemasterofwings@yahoo.com. thanks again!!)) |

I'm planning to cosplay as Mitsunari. I've never cosplayed in my life and I don't know what material I should use. Can anyone give me some tips for the costume and headband making? |

Get something light weight. For my Yue Ying cosplay, I got a shiny, pseudo-silky material that worked very well. You don't want to be too hot while cosplaying. As for the headband, you could probably make it out of paper mache. Use a cardboard base and then build up on it to give it shape, just made sure that the front piece on the forehead is thin so it doesn't look awkward. Good luck with your cosplay, I'll try to help if you have any more questions, although I'm not too experienced (only done one cosplay so far, haha). |

Dang.. another Mitsunari cosplayer... Where's all the other characters? I'd like to see Naoe for once! XD Okay okay.. tips. Headband. 1) Use cardboard. The thin one works for the side horns 2) Layer the cardboard band with a waterproof cloth to absorb your sweat and also to prevent it from falling apart. 3) Use waterproof paint (aka no poster colour or water colour) for painting the band. Costume. 1) Coat a) Complicated to make. Go to tailor. B) Cloth, use heavy cotton/Polyester or linen types because its a coat and because of that irritating collar which I'm trying to make but failed. c) Design at the back use Golden acrylic paint. Unless you want to cut out the golden satin/ polyester piece by piece and sew it by hand. d) If you still want to make it on your own, Do mock ups with cheap cloth first before jumping in. The collar, use the hard plastic cloth-like thingy they use for the curtains 2) Inside yukata. a) Easy to make. Can find the patterns easily. B) Cloth use cotton polyester mix as its the cheapest and most water absorbent. Its thin also so you won't die of heat stroke. 3) Pants... of HORROR!! (I'm assuming you're making the SW2 version) a) Use cotton based cloth of a lighter type. Seriously. B) Tailor it. Its damn hard to do a pattern for it. c) Do the colour alternation yourself by cutting and sewing the colours together. OR if you're lucky enough to find the cloth already printed like that, GET IT. I still cannot find anything like it here. 4) Shoes a) If you know anyone who can make it. Ask. I know there's someone here who can make it. I forgot who. B) This might help, Link 1 Link 2 5) Dagger (Yes... there is one) a) Use satay sticks and ice cream sticks and cardboard. I'm not joking. It works. B) Hot Glue and Scotch tape are your best friends c) Matt black. Spray paint it. At least twice to keep the colour from chipping. Weapon (He uses a fan! At least you won't get too warm in your costume.) 1) Find a fan that is proportionate to you. His fan is freakingly HUGE. 85cm radius! Its hard to find a fan that size. And if you can carry it, the paintng with kill you. 2) Do not use acrylic paint. It will chip and break when you close the fan. Find at your local artshop. Look for Tempera paints or one that can be used to paint outdoor cloth posters. They're more flexible and won't chip easily. 3) Patience is a virtue. Many layers is better than one thick layer. Hair 1) Wig. Get it. 2) Temp hair dye won't last a whole day. Don't use it unless you wanna re-spray again. 3) To get the separate chunks, use hair mousse or something but not hair gel as the hair would be too wet Tips for a first time cosplayer 1) Research the costume well. There are plenty of pictures around especially this is KW afterall. 2) Research the character as well. You don't want Mitsunari to go glomping others with a out of character big smiley expression in a photoshoot. 3) Go with a friend or a group who has cosplayed before. Its easier to go around conventions like that and you won't be labelled as a n00b too much. |

Thanks, Manji and Nutella! You've got a great costume, Manji. Actually I won't be needing a wig because I've got straight, long hair. I'll go dye it brown and trim it a little. Wow, the items needed are kind of difficult for me to get because my parents won't allow me to go out often. How I wish there's a cosplay in Penang... |

No problem, and thank you! Don't lost heart, Ishida's Retainer! I was foolish and did my costume in three days before the convention (NOT RECOMMENDED), it was a bit stressful and I didn't get much sleep! If anything, gathering small parts one at a time isn't a bad thing. It gives you time to plan ahead. Some more advice I can give to you is always save receipts! I ended up buying a few things I didn't even use for my costume and therefore spent more then was needed... Also, take measurements about how much fabric you'll be needing if you're gonna make it yourself or have someone make it for you. I bought like TWICE as much as fabric then I really needed and again, spent more money then I should have. I might have to do another black and white costume next year. |

Nooo, if anything oil paint is more expensive, smells bad, and takes FOREVER to dry. Use acrylic. It's cheap, easy to clean, and dries much more quickly. |

Yeah, check at a local art store. They should have what you need. Since you live in Japan I'm sure they're familiar with people coming in seeking advice with cosplay costumes. I can't recommend a specific store since you're in Japan, but any art store should be fine. |

I'll probably never cosplay in my life. My sewing skills are awful, and the ready made costumes are EXPENSIVE...plus all those nice cosplay convnetions in Malaysia seem to happen at times when I'm busy and palces too far away...T_T Though if I could, I'd go as Ina, or Okuni. Phsaw... |

Alright, Ishida's Retatiner, hot glue should be available at your local art store as well. Even a hardware store will most likely have a hot glue gun and hot glue sticks. You will have to do a lot of shopping around in order to get everything you need. Check the art stores, fabric stores, and even second hand stores (thrift shops) because you can find good items for very cheap prices. @Mingchan: You know I never thought I'd get the chance to cosplay either, but see if you can find someone where you live who's into cosplay. I'm sure they'd be more than helpful in assisting you in making a costume. @Browncoat: I'd like to see someone do Xiahou Dun, he's just so badass. |

For me, I started cosplay as something I'd've never done before. I was alone until I made friends with a storm trooper at an event. ^^;;; Then again, this is provided you can find an event for cosplay. |
