I really disliked him for being seen and heard everyone and that was annoying. I am not sure what got me to liking him again except maybe when I started to use him in WO2, he wasn't everywhere looking for Liu Bei. It was either that or the fact that I enjoyed Hu Jun's role as Zhao Yun in the Red Cliff movie.
	Banners made me, don't steal my fanbars you greedy plebs or Motochika will bash his shamisen over your head!! Learn to ask before taking.

I have done his story mode in all the DW games and I have found nothing perticularly outstanding in his personality. The only thing he did was save a kid and couldn't make his mind up which lord to serve. I really don't take to 'main character' roles very well, they seem very predictable. Zhao Yun was heroic in history but it is far too emphasised in DW. Like the intro to DW6, he flies into the sky and fights Lu Bu, the connection is quite simply not there but Zhao fights him because he's a smart ass with an annoying voice who is so perfect he know how to weild a spear before he was even born. Guan Yu should be battling against Lu Bu. On CAW a always create a spear character considering Zhao Yun's moveset is one of the best, I just give my own little outlook to the user.Zhao Yun = Cool guy in history I s'pose, god awful in the games. He doesn't suck. He's loyal, strong and brave. Which are apparently the requirements of personality for being the poster boy (look at Yukimura Sanada). What do you mean by couldn't make up his mind of which lord to serve? He went from Gongsun Zan to Liu Bei and had no regrets. The reason why he's emphasized is because he's brave and heroic and a good example plus he's good looking. He's not much of a main character either way, he's just the poster boy. Orochi from Warriors Orochi is a character you can consider a "main character". He fights Lu Bu because he's a smart ass with an annoying voice who is perfect enough to wield a spear before he was born? Almost everyone knows how to fight before they're born and even after they die. That's the way Koei rolls. Zhao Yun is super popular in Asia. He has two modern films that stars him. And Koei's probably going to continue using Zhao Yun as the poster boy for each installment of DW (minus the expansion packs) Oh you can't deny he's bland though, most characters go through some form of development whereas he just does whatever Liu Bei says. He didn't really do much, he saved Liu Chan, there's thousands of generals who did even more than he did. I can understand how he is the poster boy because of the 'typical' hero side. I just don't like boring chacters, despite his moveset being very good. He really is exaggerated, to be honest all of Shu are. I can understand why asia like him though because he is very uncomplicated and 'saves kiddies'. Still though good for him, but there were much greater achievers in that period.

I remember in DW6 Special in one Ma Chao's cutscenes where Liu Bei just got the news that Guan Yu was slain by Wu. Ma Chao wanted to stop Liu Bei, but Zhao Yun grabbed him by the arm and said: "All we do is achieve victory, that is the honorable thing to do." And Ma Chao replied: "But that's not what justice is". Zhao Yun is very loyal, even too loyal to me. But he's a standard character; basically for the perfect example of a character beginners should play as. So, character development isn't really given to him. But I agree with you, there were A LOT more achievers than Zhao Yun.

He was a good general, intelligent, loyal, etc. However, in the game, he has to be one of the blandest characters in the roster. Which is a shame, considering there are quite a few interesting angles they could use for him. Personally, I'd like to see him progress through the game, starting as a relatively arrogant and cocky youth during his days with Gongsun Zan and early battles under Liu Bei, but slowly becoming wiser and more intelligent as he sees more battles. Moveset-wise, he's always been the definiton of average to me. No real weaknesses in his moveset, but no outstanding strengths, either, which I suppose is what they were going for.

Guan Yu should be battling against Lu Bu. Yes, finally someone mentioned this. Like I said before Zhao Yun isn't that great character. He looks like a weak character in game. (Actually to me all Shu character looks like a poor peasant ) While Lu Bu is huge, so when in the intro it shows Lu Bu VS Zhao Yun it makes it look like Lu Bu is going to win. Guan Yu VS Lu Bu would be so much cooler. The best opening scene was DW5 where Cao Pi face of Zhan Yun. But Zhao Yun VS Lu Bu doesn't work.

He used to be my absolute favorite but I've grown to favorite Sun Ce, Guan Ping, Cao Pi. But I agree about bringing over a part of his Kessen II side; where he has regrets about Liu Bei's selfishness to avenge Guan Yu. That'd be some character development there.

First Lieutenant Posts: 166 Group: Members Member #18,265 Joined: September 13, 2008	Well, since I started with 4, my memories included using Zhao Yun for the early part (after I unlocked him of course), before I unlocked Yue Ying (and switching to her). I dig ladies, but I digress. Zi Long is the character most people can depend on. For those who are new to the Warriors series, his moveset will get them into the action pretty quickly. As mentioned, he is average. I play the Warriors series with the Japanese voice acting, be it DW4-6, WO1 or SW2. Onosaka Masaya voiced him with the quality one expects from him, given his many roles in voicing heroes/bishounens. Zi Long is unsure of himself sometimes, but he always put loyalty first. So, expect him to stab you a few times with the spear before asking questions.

I know, in the war no one is a hero and, like Sanada Yukimura, he IS overrated. But... hell, I like him! He's the reason why I started playing Dynasty Warriors, and one of my favorite characters. I love his moveset, I love his personality, his strong sense of justice ~~and the irritating habit of trying to sound more epic in every single quote he says - I have to admit that the "I do not fear the pain" part was kinda stupid~~ and loyalty. I do like cliche main characters and Zhao Yun has all the qualities that I like in a hero.

KOEI Warriors Faction Founder & KOEI Game Promoter Posts: 865 Group: Members Member #10,622 Joined: October 26, 2007	I think Zhao Yun is a very good character for Shu he definately has some heroics under his belt and has had a fair amount of time to shine though i liked him more back in DW5 when there was a scene with him and Xing Cai and he said she didn't need his help anymore like he was her mentour which was adoreable I'd like to see more scenes like that for Zhao Yun in the future as it would be nice to see him as a mentour for a change rather than someone who consantly charges the front lines
