I can't help but feel your antagonism is more directed at the colour pink, than Oichi. >_> I find that a lot of female characters are bashed for their appearance, rather than their character. Surely women are meant to be heard, rather than just seen? Remember that the characters are designed to cater for the video game audience... which is predominately by far, male. That's why you have so many video game characters in mini skirts and disproportioned body structures. =_= You can't blame the characters for how they are designed. I found Oichi very intriguing in SW2: XL. Very pessimistic, but deep. xD What you get with a series like SW, with so many characters, is very little time and development with individual characters. Especially the women, who never really had a big historical role in wars. Edited by Nefertieh, Oct 21 2009, 04:32 PM.

Oichi is my favourite female overall although she was a bit annoying in SW1 (preferred kunoichi then) her weapon change is great although i did love the cup and ball just for its random and unique style ![]() she has changed quite a lot throughout the series and thats a good thing - very good character development from one game to the sequal is always good just can't wait to see some gameplay footage

Oichi's always been awesome, in both games for different reasons. I've also liked her moveset, though I felt like SW2 downgraded it. It was better when it was a little more random like in SW1. The only think I haven't liked about Oichi was her second costume in SW1, which was a little ridiculous. But other than that, I've always liked Oichi. I can't wait to test out her new weapons in SW3. I liked the Kendama, but I can't wait to try the new chain of chakrams. Yeah, I love Oichi, she adds a little more light to the whole game. Definitely a keeper. |

If you read carefully through my rather long comment, you'll clearly see where I commented on the clothes and color and stated that I dislike them for various reasons - thought I agree the main focus was pink. However you'll also see that I've had my own reasons for liking or disliking Oichi in personality terms. I hate brining SB into an SW topic, but just so you see the difference. When I first saw SB Oichi - without knowing it was her - I thought she looked great, despite the pink-theme of her clothes. I still think she's nicely designed. Same goes for Mitsunari, whom I like even design wise despite the pink in his clothes. The moment I watched SB Anime I was twitching at Oichi the whole time and was glad whenever she'd just shut up and fade back into the background. Mitsunari on the other hand, despite initially blanching at the pink parts, managed to gain my favour despite my close to hate feeling for the color thanks to his personality and actions. I'm not trying to convince you that Oichi is a horrible character. I'm just pointing out what made me despise her - mainly in SW2. I enjoyed playing her in SW 1 after all. And in SW3 it really depends all on her personality. From the two revealed cutscenes she had with Nagamasa, she MIGHT actually make me enjoy her personality. But there is still the chance she might turn into a whiny crybaby. There is also a HIGH possibility that I'll enjoy her moveset. There is no possiblity that I'll enjoy her basic clothes design. If personality + moveset + story can convince me, she might become one of my favourite characters - in an alternate outfit ![]() I'm hoping that this makes it clear that I have no intention of bashing Oichi (well, except maybe her SW2 version and pink-intensity that seems to raise with her visual age), but am pointing out where she goes against MY personal preferences. Btw. The line about the predominated males audience made me grin. I doubt SW fits in with that => who else do you explain all of those bishis, when most guys prefer 'MALE' guys like the Hojo one. However, if you could explain to me just what Oichi said or did to make her 'deep' to you in SW2, I'd be most intrigued. Especially since it's exactly the opposite of the word I came up with when thinking about her SW2 personality -> flat. |

I always felt that in SW2, she's not even the main character in her own story. It's her husband. And yeah, Kamiya Hiroshi as Azai makes it much better when it comes to cutscenes. |

Well we haven't seen any of her SW3 personality yet. I thought it sounded a bit harsh of you to say how all Oichi fans "that claim it to 'have always been that way' must be blind or simply ignorant fo rthe sace of allowing no cirticsm on their beloved character..." I mean if you tell a sportsfan that sport is stupid, ofcourse they will be defensive. You can't expect anyone to respect your opinion if you don't respect theirs. A true fan doesn't see a "push-over" personality as a bad thing. I mean, do you find women in abusive relationships pathetic? You just don't blame the victim. Plus a lot of women were born and bred to be submissive. Only since the last 50 years has feminism tried to change that. Heck, there were time periods where women who showed of their ankles were regarded as too promiscuous. Oichi is probably just a stereotypical version of the women regarded as normal in that time period. I'm not going to talk about her design, because I think that's rather irelevent to her character. Those effiminate guys created isn't the same as fanservice that I was referring to. You don't see guys shirtless or nearly as revealing as some of the women in the series. Effeminate men are often created so that not-so-macho men in real life can relate better to them. At least, that was how Raiden's creation started in MGS2. As for what I thought was deep about what she said, I meant her lines from SW2: Empires, not XL, sorry. |

@Nefertieh: Even thought you point out that you are not going to talk about the design, the line you quoted from me: "that claim it to 'have always been that way' must be blind or simply ignorant fo rthe sace of allowing no cirticsm on their beloved character..." WAS exactly meant to be refering to the extreme, intensive use of bright pink. And when I brought THAT up, I was told that she'd always been 'that way' which is not true. Perhaps I didn't point it out obviously enough, but I guess that's that. And I regard others oppinions. Just not when they are being blind like I felt in this case. I was close to making a color table where I'd put all three pink main colors next to each other and ask if they still felt that 'It's the same'. Trying not the be influenced by the design... well, that's kind of impossible. At least to me. It's not absolute, but usually when I have an 'instant hate' or 'instant love' feeling when spotting a character it turns out to be the same personality-wise. |

I like her as a character on SW2, but her move set pretty sucks. I didn't play the first game, so I'm not the best person to talk about it, but there ARE characters with a better move set than Oichi, so she would only be my first girl of choice because of Nagamasa. ![]() I think she's an okay character on SW2. Not exactly a tomboy/honorable warrior like Ginchiyo, but not a complete useless princess. I feel like I'm not exactly going to like her on SW3, though... |

I was referring to you referring to Oichi's fans when you said "those," in your quote: "why I'm so against Oichi's pink this time around and to make it clear that those that claim it to "have always been that way" must be blind or simply ignorant fo rthe sace of allowing no cirticsm on their beloved character..." I think you must have misread something... either my comment, or yours. o_o My point wasn't if Oichi had always been one way or another, but the second part of that quote, the part where you expressed how you thought certain fans of Oichi were idiots: "must be blind or simply ignorant fo rthe sace of allowing no cirticsm on their beloved character..." Because, well, most fans of anything -- from TV, sports, movies -- are obviously subjective, and you can't simply expect them to tolerate someone else insulting what they like, or insulting them (as a fandom). I also don't understand by what you mean you regard other people's opinion, and then turn around and call them "blind"... Well that 'instant hate' or 'instant love' is really just an indication on how shallow people can be based on someone else's appearance. Like racism or sexism. >_> Sadly, this is how humanity functions. But I'm trying to point out that there's more to something if you look beyond the skin deep appearance. When I said I thought Oichi was deep (but pessimistic), this was what I was referring to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqR_vKyLR4M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeFFBtfeJPw&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhyk6izjQpg&NR=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuCN5x3WxxA Edited by Nefertieh, Nov 8 2009, 04:06 AM.

People miss her kendama, but I miss her sw2 facial structure xD She was just so pretty in sw2, including her outfit, but then her new facial structure kind of threw me off o-o;; Her out if very pink for me, but its her signature color just like Noh's is purple. As for her weapon, I do miss her kendama, but people insulted her for using that. And so, I think the developers gave her the ring-blades to show that she truly meant business [XD] now or for people to take her seriously, weapon-wise. But then her weapon looked like a holly hoop when I first saw it from the chibi pictures/figues, so it still kind of has her toy-element to it. All in all, I loved Oichi since sw1 and I still do :] |
