*plugs ears from all comments except for Kratos*  Then maybe spear users just arnt your alley of likes as Zhao Yun obviously had the best spear moveset in DW6. You all have to at least admit his greatness on a horse in DW5, it was unique and easily the most powerful and had the best hit range. His DW5 moveset is what blows me away, he was a beast. Better range? The guy who has a poke for a C4 instead of a 360 spin like Zhao Yun? Ma Chao's best attack on ground was his C6, since it was a shockwave, and is the main reason I rank him over Jiang Wei and only slightly under Zhao Yun. Zhao Yun however has more crowd-killing attacks than Ma Chao, and both have similar C3s. However, Ma Chao's jump charge has very limited use, while Zhao Yun's is one of the best one-on-one attacks against officers due to it's multi-hit ability.
This is more a matter of taste, so I'll just leave it be...
I use the spear and other polearm users a LOT in DW6, and spears have always been one of my favorite weapon types in Musou games. Zhao Yun has a poor T-string(narrow first couple hits, and it lets the AI have a chance to recover during the jump,) and the last hits on his S-string are a serious joke compared to what someone like Sun Ce has. I'm not saying Zhao Yun SUCKS, just that's he's not as good as he used to be, and guys like Sun Ce are superior play-wise.
It was indeed useful, yes.
DW4 Ma Chao was a speck better for me, mainly because his C5 didn't suck there. |

The sword moveset is very good but I miss the spear... His VA is great. I like very much the new true musou quote: "this is it... time to say goodbye" and the special activation: I'll show you something" simple but very cool. |

Currently, Ma Chao is in 2nd place in the poll behind Zhao Yun. I voted for Ma Chao as he is easily my favorite character. When I first played as him I couldn't believe how tough he was. I was relieved to hear that he fought in the name of justice because if he didn't, he'd be pretty scary! I love his moves and think they're the best. He seems tougher than Zhao Yun because of his quick attacks and horse attacks. I haven't played as him in DW6 but I'm excited to play as him with the sword. |

He is talking about this one. As for me, I can't stand Ma Chao anymore. He has gotten on my last nerve with all his justice talk and whatnot. I do like his moveset in 5 and the DW6: Special but other then that, he is just annoying to me. Sorry Jasonic.

Gonna miss his ramblings about his "Spear of Justice"... but I guess that just means he has a "Sword of Justice" now lol. Ma Chao has always sorta been an underdog favorite for me in the DW series, starting with DW3... he looked like a FFT lancer to me... and his musou, as much crappy damage as it does, was always fun to use xD Let's not forget his 4th weapon having these sweet +Horse mods when horse combat was very weak back then... Then here comes along DW4, when Ma Chao began swinging oneside only on a horse and Shadow Runner made its debut... and yeah, I think everyone knows where that goes, he's no longer an underdog but became one of the strongest characters, on a horse at least. I agree with many that his on-foot moveset was still pretty average... For DW6, I was a bit surprised that he wasn't one of the chosen 5 of Shu to have story mode/unique moveset since he seems like a very popular Shu character; but I guess its understandable seeing how his competition was the three Oath brothers, Zhuge Liang, and Zhao Yun. Glad that he got one in DW6:S but I didn't get that game since I heard horror stories of how bad the game was on the PS2... so yeah, trying out his moveset is one of the things I'm waiting for in DW6:E. |

Ma Chao is a beast, I'm disgusted with DW6 so I wouldnt even know about that guy they call Ma Chao in DW6 without a spear, but in DW3-5 and the Orochi games he's a beast and he looks cool, yeah looking cool is important to me lol, and I dont care at all about him and his justice talk, he'll still kill without hesitation for what he believes in, I think of him like a chinese version of punisher |

When first seeing his giant sword news in Special, I wasn't jumping for joy, though nor was I upset, I was more shocked if anything. I had to wait to try it out myself or see some videos in action. I must say after using it in Empires, it's better than previously expected, he's my favoriite ''newcomer'' in Empires since I really love his dialogue, especially his officer defeated quote. Plus I think his golden costume (2nd?) makes him look more like a superhero lol. |
