In DW3, he had the nice 4th weapon with death element on his C5 and C6 along with attack and defense bonuses. In DW4, he got the new C3 attack that did some good damage on crowds and generals. In DW5, he pretty much stayed the same, A little more reach was added to his weapon me thinks, still a top ten general.

Posts: 4,438 Group: Members Member #749 Joined: February 21, 2006 Gender Male	Wei Yan was the first character who I used in DW3 and I have been his loyal fan ever since >_>. I was attracted to him because of his mysterious looks and later I realised how awesome and unique his moveset is. Another great thing he has is his voulge. It allows him to perform moves that other spear wielding characters can't, making him even more interesting character to play as. In DW3, his greatest advantage definitely was his 4th weapon with Steel element (a.k.a Death/Vorpal). That's why I rarely had problems with him when playing on Hard or Very Hard (DW3XL). However, despite that he lost Steel element in DW4, most of his attacks were improved and his C3 is still considered as one of the best attacks in DW by many veteran players. In DW5, I thought he was a bit weaker than in DW4, but his reach got longer and again, he got new and improved attacks. As for looks, the "troll" Wei Yan from DW4 always remains as his best costume -_-.

As for me, he has always been one of the those characters that you either love or hate. I loved him. He has a good musou range attack which allows him to move in all directions for crowd clearing. His basic attacks can seem kinda slow to average but if you have practice using him then you shouldn't have any problems. The only thing I dont care for is his 4th costume in DW5. Never liked that style/look on him >.<

My opinion is that traitors are considered evil, brutish, and very dishonorable. So they made Wei Yan feel sorta out of place in the Shu lineup.

He's also a great break dancer. However, I like his DW5 costume better. In DW4, he looked really tribal. But why did Koei make him illiterate? I think he deserves better than that.

Remember how Wei Yan was killed in the novel? He shouted three times "Who dares to kill me!", and KOEI decided to shut him up by making him silent warrior who doesn't know how to speak properly. As for his barbaric appearance, IMO it shows that he is a strong warrior who can't be trusted (like in the novel). However, I don't have explanation for his mask or why he hides his face >_>. But I don't really care. The fact is, that he's is the most unique character in Shu and I enjoy playing as him. I hope KOEI never changes him -_-.

That is why people like him (Weiist and Wuist) because he is not like every other Shu person who talks about loyalty, honor and justice.
